MIHO
Cuts, bruises littered across my olive tan skin, my eyes not the hazel I know them as. They were a bright, intimidating shade of gold. He'd put me in a pair of black robes instead of what I came in here with. My pajamas. I could feel change yet I could not see too much of it. Only what was just reflected in the everlasting flames.
There was a mountain. Enjū called it "Mount Redrock" from the eruptions that would often occur from it. It never affected us. His powers shielded me from any injuries that included flames or heat in this dream. I'd climb, run, do cardio until I puked. Through all the misery and pain, I felt so different. Lighter- nimble as a cat.
My stomach was finally flat after two months in this dream. He taught me basics of taijutsu, one jutsu, a fire jutsu and no genjutsu. Apparently, I'm not ready to learn any genjutsu, if I learn any at all. But, he did teach me how to detect small ones and how to get out of them. Mostly taijutsu.
'Once more, Miho. Do as I taught you.' Enjū ordered.
Out of breath, shoulders heaving up and down, I still nodded. "Katon: Phoenix's Red Hands!" It was a B - ranked jutsu, Enjū told me. It wouldn't drain too much energy from me; however it had a deafening noise- like the scream Enjū used when I first met him as intimidation. Red flames burst in my hands, where my hands had become fire, any that I touched would be severely burnt.
To prove how strong it was, Enjū molded a stone solider to rush at me, a stone katana in its hands.
I slammed my flaming hot hand onto the stone solider, a hole going straight through its stone stomach, with flames dripping from inside. Enjū chuckled lowly. 'Good. After two months and a week you've finally mastered one of my jutsu.' A wide grin found its way to my face. "I did it," I said, mostly to encourage myself. Enjū rolled his sharp, lean golden eyes. 'Yes, yes. Listen up, Miho. This last month here is going to be extremely painful. I'm going to make your skin burn and your muscles ache. So the whining you've been giving me stops here.' I gave Enjū a blank stare, making him growl. 'What is it, kid?'
"You sound like my Mom," I told him honestly.
The fire bird appeared irked as his golden eyes twitched. 'We'll start with you running a quick mile' he told me curtly. I groaned and titled my head back, but did so anyway. When I returned, we began training more taijutsu. Well, me and the fire ninjas he'd conjure up 'till the day went by.
I practiced more and more until my body felt so weak, I nearly collapsed. Enjū taught me the basics of taijutsu. Now he wants to teach me a few simple ninjutsu tricks. When he told me the first thing we were doing, I felt insulted. "You want me to what?" Enjū pointed one of his wings over to a pillar of stone. 'Must I repeat myself, kid?'
"You want me to climb that rock? That's it?" I asked in disbelief. Enjū suddenly began to scoff at me. 'Did I say how you shall climb it?' I shook my head in response. 'You can't use your hands. Only your feet.' My jaw practically dropped to the floor in shock, my eyes wide as two full yellow moons.
"You're joking," I scoffed, now in disbelief. "You want me to climb that-" he sighed in annoyance.
"Dear god, shut it, girl," he groaned, 'Anything else?'
I opened my mouth to speak, but he got to me first before I could. 'No? Good. Now focas your chakra to your feet and begin climbing, kid.' After that, Enjū went to napping in his nest of embers.
I began focusing on traveling my chakra down to my feet. When I felt it, I swept my feet from the ground up the tree two steps before I fell on my butt. Good start, I guess... not bad, right? Yeah...
It's not a great start.
Each time I got up farther, I marked all of my progress with a kunai. The long etched lines in the stone began to crawl up higher on the stone pillar towering above me. 'One more time' I told myself before sprinting up the pillar. I suddenly started to feel dizzy and my body became limp.
Then, I started to fall.
I could feel the warm, thick air fly past me as the pressure of the wind whistled. The bright flashes of fire behind my eyelids that sealed shut and the booming explosion from Mount Redrock. That is until a hot surface saved me. I opened my eyes to find it was Enjū. 'Get rest, you idiot. Don't over exert yourself.' A small grin found its way to my face as I nodded in response while giggling. Enjū rolled his eyes at me, annoyed from having to save me.
'Idiot.' I heard Enjū mutter, irked. The ground quakes at every step he takes, until I'm at the small rock house built for me. It wasn't much, but it was something. It had a small cot with furs and a feather pillow. There was not much in the pantry except for fruit, cooked insects, bread slabs of turkey for sandwiches and vegetables. It had no tea here, which I was sad about at first.
Enjū taught me the values of eating a healthy diet and controlling how much I eat. He put me into shape, made me cry and puke (a lot) but still stuck with me the entire time. He kept his word.
The following week, I continued until I finally reached the top. The skies were red as fury, full of fiery yellow clouds and the landscape was a dull shade of dark grey. We were the only living beings in this world. For some reason, leaving this place soon made my heart ache. I wanted to stay. To be with Enjū, despite his pissy attitude.
'Did you just call me pissy, girl?' Growled Enjū.
I turned my head to find Enjū right behind me. I was surprised and nearly fell off the edge of the pillar. "H- How did you...?" I stammered, the will to speak failing me. Enjū let out a long sigh.
'I'm part of your subconscious and can hear what you're thinking, idiot,' he told me. My eyes bugged out in shock, feeling stupid for some reason for not have known this beforehand. Enjū offers his flaming wing to me, which I accept and step onto it. He puts it near the ground and I step off.
"Enjū," I said softly, "Will I ever see you again?"
The fire bird rolled his eyes. 'Of course you will, idiot,' replied Enjū, 'I don't have a choice, anyway, so I'll always be with you.' A smile came over my face as I began to fade from this dream into reality.
"Thank you, Enjū," I whispered before I faded.

Beep... Beep... Beep...
The monotone sounds of a machine were dull to my ears as I roused awake. A blurry blue blob was sat next to me, a wooden stand with a vase filled with red blobs. Everything was fuzzy until I was finally adjusted from sleeping. "Hello?" My voice was weak and hoarse, my lips dry and cracked from dehydration. The person instantly perked their head up at the sound of my voice.
"Miho," the person said, "Hey, wake up, dork."
It was calm, collected... soothing. The voice was indifferent; however when I saw his face it made my heart sing. "I'm fine, Sasuke- kun," I replied.
Sasuke sighed, moving a pink card from the stand to his lap. "Good," he said, "Your parents were rushing through town with you- and so I came to see you today." My lips turned up into a small smile, until my stomach growled loudly. My face was likely as red as a beet as I covered my belly with my arms. "I- I... um, kinda peckish..."
I started to laugh awkwardly. Sasuke offered me his hand, which I took and got up from the small hospital bed. "Hey, Sasuke- kun," I said, as my legs wobbled a bit. "Can you slow down a little?"
Sasuke clicked his tongue, but did anyway. Still in my hospital gown, Sasuke guided me to the front desk. "Miss Kojima!" Cried a nurse, her voice echoed in the bustling hallway. "You're awake! How are you feeling? Why aren't you in bed?" The nurse began to bombard me with questions, making me irked, but I didn't show it.
"I'm feeling fine, ma'am," I replied simply, "If I may, I'd like to be released. I don't understand why I am here." The nurse shook her head. "No, you must be signed a release. You can't just leave yet, Miss Kojima." Sasuke grunted, annoyed, but still helped me back to my cramped hospital room.
ROOM 1309 ran across a template in bold letters.
When I got comfortable in the hospital bed (if there is such thing) Sasuke tossed away the pink letter onto the trash bin. When he left, I quickly jumped out of the bed and snatched it out of the trash bin then crawled into bed afterwards, the card sitting under my legs. They looked different.
He returned with a tray of food. "This is all that was there today," Sasuke told me plainly, "It looks... edible. So, eat." It was a bowl of omirisu, squid rings, fruit, chicken soup and a cup of steaming green tea. It was nice, but I wanted to be with my parents. Or just Sasuke. Or Naruto or Ren. This place isn't home. I want to be at home.
"Miss Kojima," said a nurse, "You're to be released by your parents in an hour." She seemed to be upbeat like she was before, her smile made me shuffle in the bed. "Thank you, ma'am," I replied. She nodded then left the room. Sasuke sighed, getting up from the seat next to me. "I'm glad you didn't get yourself sick or something, you dork," he told me and now smirked jocosely.
I shot him a pouty look. "Sasuke- kun," I whined dramatically, acting hurt, "I'm hurt you'd think I would get myself sick." Sasuke rolled his eyes at me, still smirking, "Hn, whatever, dork," he replied. I then ate my food while chatting with him- him mostly listening to me ramble. It was nice, though. I'm glad to have him here to listen.
My mother was the first to burst through the door and hug me at sight. "Sweetheart I'm so glad you're okay! You suddenly... changed... and I was worried you were dying! Oh, I was so worried about you!" My mother began sobbing a river for me as my father tried to calm her down. Sasuke clicked his tongue, obviously not wanting to be here any longer. "Thank you for coming to see me, Sasuke- kun," I said, giving him a chance to leave. Sasuke nodded. "Yeah..."
He turned to meet my eyes. "See you around."
Sasuke then left. My father already knew him, so he wasn't too worked upon him being here with me. But he still didn't like me hanging near him. He thinks he'll do something. It confuses me sometimes, but I respect his wishes. I can't go out with anyone until I'm sixteen, and that seems like a decent age to date anyway. It's not my focus.
I wanna change my fate. Make my own destiny.
That's my focus.
My mother and father brought clothes for me to change into. But, they didn't fit anymore. 'Dang, this isn't good' I thought as my pants barely hung at my hips. My shirt became a big dress. But my shoes still fit, which is at least something.
I then caught a glimpse of strings in the black shorts of polyester, so I pulled the strings in order to tighten the shorts. It worked as I tied it, one bunny ear at a time. I came out with a bright grin on my face. My mother squealed merrily, while ecstatically clapping her hands. "My 'lil ninja girl, my 'lil sweet pea!" My mother then glommed on me, hugging to the point of not being able to breathe from her death grip. "Dad, please, help me!" I reached my hands out from behind my mother and my father chuckled airily.
"Alright, let's head home before she really needs to go to the hospital," my father joked. My mother let go now, allowing me to breathe. As we left the hospital, the pink card with my name on it was found, but was seen as nothing and tossed away.
My stomach then growled, making me hold my stomach from pain. 'Remember, eat healthily, Miho. If you die, I am taken into another user. I'd rather not let that happen.'
"Enjū?" I blurt out, my voice thick of surprise.
I could hear him groan in irritation as both of my parents looked over at me. "Honey, did you say something?" My mother asked. I shook my head with a smile. "No, sorry, thought I saw someone I knew," I lied, my voice stuttering a little as I did so. My father nodded and we continued on.
'I swear, you're an idiot, kid,' Enjū told me blatantly.
"Sorry," I whispered to myself, probably looking weird as I did. Enjū sighs in my head. 'Just don't eat anything bad like those honey cakes. Not for a while, got it?' I nodded in response. 'Good.' My mother gave my hand a small squeeze as she smiled at me sweetly. "Would you like honey cakes when we get home?" She asked. I don't want to be rude...
"Umm..." I thought for a moment.
'Miho, don't-' Enjū tried to say, but I said:
"Sure. Thanks, Mom."
Enjū growled in irritation, and I swear I could hear him throw something. 'YOU IDIOT!' He roared angrily, 'What did I just say?' I lowered my head, now twiddling with the edges of my long shirt. "Sorry, Enjū," I murmured. No response.
He didn't say anything for the entire way back.
We returned to the house to find my mother made stir fry vegetables with tall glasses of water. She had honey cakes on the counter for dessert. The cakes look really good. Maybe one won't hurt. We ate with mirthful chatter, my father informing us that Kou will be returning.
"Also, Miho," My mother said, "Your Sensei, Sana, came over because your test was supposed to be today." I froze in place before the wooden chopsticks could reach my lips. Damn. "So, we told her that something happened to you and she was so kind as to make it tomorrow instead." A breath of relief made my mother giggle a little.
My father finished his meal and I collected all of the plates. "Thank you, Miho," my mother chirped happily. I nodded and did the kitchen. Since my mother made dinner, it's my job to clean up. My father worked like my mother, so they were excluded from chores. Kou and I usually clean the kitchen together, but he was on a mission. So I'm pretty glad he's coming back.
After I cleaned up, I went to the bathroom. When I saw my reflection from the mirror, my eyes nearly popped out of their sockets from the huge change in my body. "Whoa," I breathed in awe. It was beautiful. Slim yet also built. Not too tall, but I didn't expect that to change. My legs were strong as a mares', my stomach isn't too sculpted, however, it did have some defined lines.
"I did change," I mumbled to myself, my hand even looked less pudgy. It looked small. I was still me though, which it was made it even better.
