A storm is coming towards me. The wind is screaming in my face. But I stand here. Silent Destitute. Nothing ever changing. Always standing in the eye of the storm. And then it changes, like always, to a bone crushing pain stemming from my lungs. Its always the lungs. And then I feel them. The icy hands of death, wrapping around my neck for the third time this week. They are tightening and tightening until, nothing. We are back to nothing.
"Lily," my mother screams in my face whilst shaking me awake. I've gone limp. I can't move. "Lily wake up, it's happening again."
"I'm up mom, I'm up. Give me some space please?" I ask her as I fight to open my eyes. I'm trying not to vomit all over her.
"Honey, if this continues you're going to go to a doctor. This isn't healthy." She says with stern yet soft eyes. The green in them carried over to me, but that's the only features I got from her. The rest of me is a spitting image of my father.
"Is dad already at work?" I ask as I start to sit up, groaning in the process.
"Dad is right here." I look up at the man in the door frame. Tall, lean, and lanky, just like me. Between our cheekbones, dark brown hair, and need for glasses, we are almost twins. Minus the fact that he is older and a man. "And you need to get out of bed and go to school. It isn't goof to be late on the first day of school. And as I recall, today is when you get assigned your lab partners. Am I correct?"
"Sadly yes, but it will be same as last year. I'll get assigned to Malissa Sanders, and I'll end up doing all the work as usual, we will pass with a perfect 100, and life will continue on. Doesn't that sound right?" I lean back against my head board and start brushing out my hair.
"Yes that us right, wait, when did you get so cocky? You never brag about your grades." He looks at me inquisitively and comes in the room to sit on the side of my bed.
"I say it in those specific words knowing that I sound like a stuck up brat yet I choose to say it because if I start to believe what I am saying it might actually happen. Which sis what I'm hoping for anyway." I reach out for the cup of tea that mom brings in with her. She hands it to me and walks out the door to presumably finish breakfast. Yet how she has to go back and finish, I have no idea. It's cereal.
"Well get ready. We leave in an hour." He stands up and starts towards the door, "and you'll do just fine. You always do." And with that he leaves.
I drag myself out of bed and put on my normal clothes, a pair of jeans, a t-shirt, and white high top converse. I curl my straight hair so it barely touches my shoulders. The curl will only last for probably 30 minutes but why not.
I can't drive to school yet. I get my license in 3 days because I waited a while to get my permit. These are the last 3 days dad has to take me to school and knowing him, he won't miss it. It's kind of out of the way and he is usually running late.
---
When dad pulls up in front of the massive school he turns and looks at me, "have fun, don't do anything stupid, and tell the gang I said hello."
"Bye dad." I get out of the car and get my stuff from the backseat and started walking towards the school. I make it all of two steps when I got pulled backwards.
"You think you can just go on into the school without coming and seeing us first?" A deep male voice says behind me. I turn around to find my group of best friends. We are all inseparable. Ashton, Abby, Sam, Olivia, Riley, and Preston. They are my family.
"I'm sorry. It's been an eventful morning." I say, falling in line between Sam and Olivia. Sam throughs an arm around my neck like the big brother guy he is.
"Was your dad almost 'late' again?" Ashton askes from the end of the line.
"Yes. If I hear one more thing about how I'm always late and he never is I'm going to move out." I say walking through the front doors. We walk over to the juniors table to pick up our locker numbers and parking spots.
"What number are we getting this year? I vote the same as last year." Abby says and we all nod in agreement. We head to our lockers and put everything away. Just like last year, I'm in the middle of our line, although I definitely didn't ask for it.
"What classes do we have together?" Riley asks and pulls out the app on her phone. We all compare our schedules and like always, we each have every class with at least one other person. That's what having such a big group of friends that all take the same classes is like. Always being together.
"I have AP math first, who is going with me?" I ask and Sam, Riley, and Olivia say they do. We all four start walking towards the AP room and we take our seats. I sit next to Sam and Olivia and Riley sit next to each other. One of the guys usually tries to sit next to me because its easier to cheat that way.
"Have you heard who the new kids are yet?" I lean over and ask Sam.
"Nope, I was just going to ask you." He replies right as the teacher walks in. This should be fun.
