Chapter 35: on the blindside
✴Isabella Marciano✴
''Talk then'' I huffed, avoiding his intense gaze. I was laying on my side as I stared at Kon, he heaved a sigh leaned back against his chair.
''I'll lose the cuffs, just promise me you won't escape again'' he took out the silver key from his sweatpants pocket and uncuffed my wrist when I nodded and helped me to sit up. My body feels very light as if I was floating in the air and the bed was clouded under me.
He resumed his seat on the chair after allowing me to rest my back on the headboard supported by lots of pillows.
I itched for him to speak, he was staring at me like he's checking a piece of art in a museum - if it's genuine or a forgery... His eyes kept moving all over my face, it was intimidating how he's studying me but I glared back at him.
''Well?'' I mumbled impatiently. My head is starting to feel like being dumped with tons of bricks and my eyelids are getting heavier. ''Talk.''
Kon's cold gaze bore into mine, ''I and my team are aiming to get something from the New York Marciano estate for years. Five to be exact. Crow, the best hacker in the world under my command was able to get inside the server.'' he purposely stopped talking, I knew where this conversation was headed already but my blank face gave away nothing. ''But he can't get through the backdoors that you built.''
''I built?''
Kon groaned, ''you need to stop twisting my words, Isabella.''
I smirked, enjoying how I can easily get under his skin. ''How did you know it was me. My brother Sean is the wizard of the family and not me. I'm just an infuriating spoiled princess - was.'' I amended my statement.
Kon stood up, he leisurely walked towards the desk across from the bed I was in, reached for the drawer, and pulled a manila envelope inside it. He strode back to the chair and handed me the envelope.
Unwittingly, I opened the envelope and was met by files after files about me. Everything from my allergies to my favorite chrysanthemum color is fairly detailed inside.
''You can stop with the act, I know everything about you. Your older brothers might be the best at what they do but you were better. You've always been spoiled with love but you never acted like one,'' he announced in an imposing manner.
''Sharpshooter at the age of seven, you've detonated fifty-seven bombs before you turned sixteen'' he shook his head in disbelief, ''way craftier than EODs if I may add. You're an escape artist, a con artist but you suck at cooking'' he made sure to emphasize the 'con artist' accusingly.
''So what?'' this creeped the hell out of me. Even my fear of the ocean and how I conquered it was reported in the file in my hand. It's never good when people are interested in your life. They either wanted you dead or they need something worth your life if you can't give it to them.
Kon's eyes softened, he leaned forward, resting his elbows above his knees, propping up his chin above his twined fingers. ''I know you want Santi dead, I can help you do that if you get me what I need.''
Tilting my head to the side, I studied his features. He's telling the truth from the way his eyes are still focused on me, or maybe he is lying - there's a big possibility of Kon being a con artist that's luring me to my demise.
''What is it that you need?'' I probe, not giving in too easily.
''I just need a file from the Marciano database'' his icy gray eyes moved so little that I barely caught it. His grip on his fingers tightened ever so lightly, he's lying.
Prying out some more information, I pander to his lies, ''and if I don't?''
Kon leaned back on the chair, crossing one leg over the other in a very manly yet sophisticated way. His arms rest on the armchair, lifting one to cradle his chin. ''Why would you decline my offer?''
I shrugged, ''you haven't given me a reason to trust you, Konstantine. If that's even your real name. You got me on a blindside here, everything about me you already know.'' I tossed the papers and envelope on my feet, they scattered unceremoniously on the bed. ''It's very unfair, don't you think?''
Kon shook his head, ''if you decide not to agree with me, I'm afraid John will pay the price.'' he typed something on his phone and handed it to me.
Why do I have to see this all the freaking time? déjà fucking boo! The only difference in this time is that they had John on a bed. His eyelids were hiding his blue-gray eyes, his face had purple discoloration, his right arm was bound close to his left torso and his legs would probably need about a month to heal, for him to be able to walk properly and ran away from this place.
''I can just leave him here, he's an old man of no use to me'' lies. Heaven knows I'd do anything for that man. I would even lay my life willingly just for John to have another year in his lonely lonesome life. The poor man dedicated his life to me without asking for anything in return. He doesn't deserve to be treated this way and I don't deserve an ounce of his sacrifice.
Kon chuckled, ''if I haven't read your file, if I haven't met you before knowing you were Isabella Marciano, I would have bought that.'' she shook his head, a genuine glint of glee glittering in his face, breaking the blank look he was giving me. ''I really adore you Red, it would be a waste to kill you so just say yes.''
''Deal'' I smiled sweetly, offering my hand for a shake.
Kon stared at my offered hand, he held so much confusion in them but he reached for it before I could pull back. ''Good.''
