Chapter 39: the system
✴Isabella Marciano✴
John gazed thoughtfully outside the window as if he was contemplating on whether to tell me the truth or sugar-coated one so I said.
'"Don't lie to me, John. I know you, uncle Marcos and Dad had something to do about them'' I warned him calmly. It was not my intention to intimidate the man, all I want is the truth.
''We were trained under Schatten, figlia,'' he mumbled softly.
I was dumbfounded. I wanted the truth but I didn't say I would like it though.
''The system isn't as corrupted as it is now. They never ventured into killing innocent people before and they don't take children unwillingly to be part of the system. We were the first ones to undergo the dreaded training and the three of us were the first to complete it and one other kid named Geist.'
'We only met him inside and we became friends with him. He was consumed by the money and power that was given to Schatten by the government and the underworld. He wanted to rule the world above and under that's why we left when he took over as the König. He took the throne on his own, he made the members bow down to him, he killed those who wouldn't follow his rule, and now the whole system has been corrupted by his greed.'' the pain in John's voice was crystal clear. (king)
''The three of us, your father and Marcos decided to put an end to his rule. Since we know how the Schatten works, we lure Geist into a trap and we succeed in eliminating him. Since then, the Schatten was closed and I never thought that I would see the day when I would hear another child being taken under the system.''
John was holding onto his chest, I knew his wounds were still fresh since he took the most impact on the car crash. I still haven't found who among those four people I had breakfast with got that bright idea of crashing to the car, I made a mental note to knock some sense in his or her mind after this.
''You need to rest,'' I handed him the medication resting on his side table, ''I'll come back and you'll continue telling me this bedtime story by then, okay?''
John chuckled before downing all his medicines. ''Don't hasten in making decisions Isabella. Schatten is a whole new level of danger, no mistake can be made with them.''
''Yeah, yeah,'' I rolled my eyes, ''go to sleep old man.''
He chuckled once again and his eyes were droopy slowly, the medicines kicking in fast and I let the old man take his necessary rest.
I didn't leave his room right away, I like the view of the ocean and trees together. I like both but I prefer to see the ocean all the time, that's why I chose Greece. So many beautiful beach spots and it's easier to escape in the waters than on land.
Just what is fate planning for me this time?
I sighed and left John's room with the intention of finding Kon and knowing what they came up with.
The house was eerie, the only sound that can be heard was the waves and I wonder where everyone was. After making my way through the living room and kitchen, I still haven't found anyone and I made my way out back and still, no sign of any of them.
I stood on the beach, savoring the salty breeze the ocean graced the air with. Since I can see no one around, I decided that this is a good time for that swim since the sun was already setting.
Pulling all of my clothes off, I dipped myself in the waters and swam and swam and swam until my muscles were too sore to do anything. I free float on the ocean, staring at the now reddish sky.
Blood. It's what I was seeing. My skin felt cold already, that's the only time I made a swim back to the shore, but I was frozen when I saw about ten, no twenty people in all black and in full battle gear crawling their way to the mansion.
John was my first thought and made sure I'll be underwater until I was close enough to the shore.
I can hear guns being fired now, the once peaceful surrounding I admired earlier was long history and I can't find my fucking clothes. Ugh.
Underwear it is then. Undies are the new war fashion.
The mansion was now covered in smoke, it made my hazy beeline easier, and found an intruder - must be the look-out - standing on the kitchen entrance. I jumped behind him and snapped his neck before he even had the time to react.
Making a quick move to take off the bulletproof vest he has on, I covered my bare body with it and took everything he owns that can be useful. When I took off his mask, I was taken aback by how young he was. Must be just nineteen or twenty. I've never killed someone as young as him but I have no time to dwell on his death.
Cocking his 45 cal, I checked the magazine content and made my way upstairs to John's room. Dead bodies were scattered all over the beautiful mansion. Crimson copper liquid now covers the floor and the wall bears splatters of blood.
When I reached John's room, I found him still lying peacefully on the bed. Just what kind of medicine did they give him? The place was on a rampage and he was still sleeping?
I patted his cheeks as hard as I could and I let out a sigh when he groaned and opened his eyes. John is a big dude, I will never be able to get us out of here if he's unconscious.
''Hey John'' I breathed out, removing the IV on his wrist and he blinked the sting away. ''The mansion is under attack.''
''It's Schatten.''
