"Uh...sure," Olivia eventually agreed after much thinking.
She was offered a piece of paper and a pen and began writing almost instantly, letting all her bottled up feelings out in black ink.
You push me away,
You shut me out.
I just wanna know
What this is all about.
You can't deny it,
Baby I know.
Just come clean,
I'm your friend, not your foe.
Olivia snuck a quick glance at Emma, who had her eyes focused on the lyrics before them.
I'm writing this song
Just for you,
Hoping that you might just
Tell me how you feel.
You pick me up then you break me down,
Don't know how I feel without you now.
It feels like I'm drowning without you here,
If only you'd help me, I might disappear.
Emma had stayed silent throughout their entire process so far. Olivia stopped writing and looked at the other girl.
"You wanna...give it a go?" she asked.
Emma shook her head instantly. "No!" she cleared her throat and calmed down. "I- I mean, what you've got is beautiful. Please, go on," she urged.
Olivia chuckled and did as she was told.
So baby please just
Let me in,
Don't leave me out.
I can't stand this anymore,
I can't be waiting for this long.
Oh, Oh, Oh
"There," Olivia smiled in satisfaction. "Till the first chorus. That's gotta count for something! You wanna continue the next part?" she asked the brunette beside her, holding the paper and pen for her to take.
Emma nodded her head in acknowledgement and took the material gratefully before continuing from where the green-eyed girl had left off.
You've got a warm smile,
A really soft touch.
The way your eyes shine,
Lights my whole world up.
I can't deny it,
You're beautiful.
All I wanna do is hold you close.
"You catch on quick," Olivia mumbled in reference to how quickly Emma seemed to pick up the mood of their song.
"So I've been told," Emma laughed and nudged her friend playfully.
Do you know, just how I feel?
Been longing for you,
Can you see what I do?
What do you say?
Would you be mine?
Been waiting for your answer all this time.
So give me a chance to
Prove myself.
Don't turn around.
I don't want to leave you now,
But I can't help but lose myself.
Oh, Oh, Oh
Emma put the pen down and looked at Olivia. "Write the bridge with me?"
The green-eyed girl nodded enthusiastically and grabbed another pen that sat on Emma's desk.
"You go first," Emma whispered.
It's 4 o'clock now,
I'm at your door,
Contemplating if I should knock or not.
Would you accept it,
If I told you,
What you mean to me?
"Your turn," Olivia whispered back.
You're my everything,
The way you smile,
The way you move,
Tells me how you feel.
"Shall we work on the last part together?" Emma suddenly asked.
"Isn't that what we're doing?" Olivia asked in confusion, eyebrow raised.
Emma chuckled. "No silly, I mean...let's actually write this last part together,"
"Oh, s-sure," Olivia replied, slightly intimidated by the fact that Emma wouldn't like her ideas.
"Why are you so nervous?" Emma enquired, placing a hand on Olivia's thigh, rubbing circles in a repeated motion.
"I'm just afraid you won't like what I'm going to write," the raven-haired girl sighed.
"Olivia! You're kidding, right? Calm down! I already love the first part of the song. I'm sure I'll love your ideas on this part too,"
Ironically enough, instead of getting really turned on in her current situation, Olivia felt comforted, which she guessed was also an oxymoron in its own way.
"Okay," she breathed out and nodded. "Let's finish this song,"
Emma cheered silently and grabbed the pen once again, shifting the paper slightly so that it sat between the both of them.
"I was thinking," she started to speak.
Olivia stared at her intently, waiting for her next sentence.
"That the next part could go something like this," Emma continued, singing a short verse.
So what if I said,
"I like you"
How would you feel?
Would you run away from me?
Would you just leave me now?
I can't stand this anymore,
I need to know.
Olivia stared at Emma in awe as she watched the younger brunette sing. Her voice was so entrancing, so mesmerising that seemed to pull Olivia closer to the girl.
When Emma finished, Olivia couldn't help but clap softly and nod her head in approval.
"Those were really good lyrics," she whispered.
"Thank you," Emma mumbled shyly. "Why are we still whispering?"
Both of them giggled.
Olivia cleared her throat. "Sorry,"
"Your turn," Emma's laughter echoed through the room, giving Olivia butterflies.
"Shouldn't we write your lyrics down first?" she said, in an obvious attempt to hide her embarrassment.
Emma rolled her eyes playfully but wrote the lyrics down anyway.
"Actually...I think I'm just gonna sing the chorus again," Olivia thought aloud.
Emma nodded her head. It was as though her mind was willing to risk everything, as long as it meant that Olivia was happy.
What was happening to her?
"I think that would be a good way to end the song...along with a one line ending," Olivia said, stringing her carefully constructed idea slowly.
"Sure, go for it," Emma urged.
"Alright," the green-eyed girl replied, inhaling sharply.
So baby please just
Let me in,
Don't leave me out.
I can't stand this anymore,
I can't be waiting for this long.
Oh, Oh, Oh
Don't, don't, don't...
Don't leave me now.
"You lied," Emma said when Olivia finished.
Raising an eyebrow, Olivia replied confusedly, "What?"
"You said you can't sing," the brunette told her.
Olivia exhaled. "I never said that," she said, trying very hard to maintain a straight face.
"You certainly implied it," Emma rolled her eyes playfully. "You're so quiet, you never really sing...this whole time, you've only written lyrics but never actually sang them,"
"I'm sorry," Olivia pouted and slowly walked over to the younger girl, who had gotten up and was standing beside her bed now.
Emma stared at the girl making her way towards her and felt her heart begin to race.
She didn't know what it was, but there was certainly something about Olivia that drew Emma closer to her. It definitely made her want to know more about the older girl.
The green-eyed girl finally took her place in front of her. She placed her hands firmly on Emma's sides, her long and slender fingers grazing over the soft skin.
Emma shivered under her touch.
"I didn't mean to lie to you," Olivia spoke softly.
Emma shook her head. "It's okay," she replied, her eyes darting down to Olivia's lips for a quick second before making eye contact with her again. "I guess I wouldn't call it lying..."
"Do you know what I wanna do right now?" Olivia whispered.
"Yeah? What is it?" Emma mumbled, casually wrapping her arms around Olivia's neck, pulling them slightly closer.
"I want to—" Emma's phone started ringing before Olivia could finish, causing both girls to pull away from each other quickly.
"Sorry," Emma apologised quickly before taking the call outside.
Olivia sighed and ran her fingers through her hair.
What was she getting herself into now?
