Emma heard soft knocks on her door and her heart skipped a beat.
Olivia.
The young Cuban set her book down and made her way towards the wooden frame.
Twisting the doorknob, she opened the door to reveal the gorgeous girl standing before her.
"Hey," Emma greeted.
"Hi," Olivia replied, faking a smile.
A smile Emma could very easily see through.
The duo made their way to the bed, Emma closing the door behind her.
They sat in silence, the kind of silence you didn't know was awkward or comfortable.
Emma cleared her throat and decided to speak first. "So, how'd the talk with my mum go?"
Olivia finally looked up to face her, those green eyes causing Emma's heart to flutter.
"Well, she told me some things..."
Things?
"What kind of things...?" Emma asked, reaching for Olivia's hand and intertwining their fingers.
"The same thing you told me when I first met you,"
"In class?" Emma asked again, eyebrows arched because she was confused.
Olivia shook her head. "No," she started. "When I first met you. Think,"
Emma's thoughts wondered back to the first time she spoke to the raven-haired girl.
There was the time at the lockers, when she slapped— no, she didn't want to go there.
There was all their classes, but the two barely spoke then.
Could it be...the time at the bathroom?
Oh, shit.
"She...she told you my name, didn't she?" Emma said, looking right into Olivia's eyes.
The older girl nodded.
"Why did you lie to me, Emma?"
The name felt foreign on Olivia's tongue. It was the first time she'd been able to match the beautiful name to the same beautiful face she'd spent the day looking at.
The younger girl retracted her hand from Olivia's, but the raven-haired girl only intertwined their fingers once more, this time rubbing circles on the back of her palm soothingly.
"I was scared, Liv. I thought you'd think of me as the pathetic girl who was crying over something as small as breaking up with my boyfriend,"
"Wait, you broke up with your boyfriend? That's why you were crying?" Olivia asked in astonishment.
Emma nodded her head. "Yeah, that's why. By the way, banana's my favourite fruit," she gushed.
Olivia smiled and kissed Emma's forehead, remembering the time she gave the cheerleader her banana in the bathroom.
"I'm not mad at you," she whispered.
"I'm glad you're not mad at me,"
•••
"So tell me, what happened between you and Austin that made you two to break up?" Olivia asked, popping a chip into her mouth.
After their little conversation, the two girls had decided to spend the rest of the day lazing around, telling themselves that they'd finish their projects tomorrow.
Emma snuggled closer into Olivia, the older girl holding her tightly, protectively almost.
"He...he tried to do some...things to me," Emma told her lover softly. "He got mad when I told him I didn't want to sleep with him,"
Olivia tensed up. "When did this happen?"
"About a month ago, at Ava's party. You weren't here yet, I think," Olivia nodded in response to Emma's statement.
— Flashback —
"Hey Chancho, are you coming to my party tonight?" Ava asked the young brunette as they sat down in the cafeteria.
"What party?" Emma asked her friends in confusion.
"Ava's throwing a party tonight to celebrate her getting a B+ in Math," Ally explained.
Emma choked on her drink. "You got a B+ in Math? AP Math?"
Ava smiled proudly. "Sure did partner," she said with a fake Texan accent.
Emma clapped her hands with joy. "That's great babe! Of course I'll be there tonight,"
"What's happening tonight?" a deeper voice spoke behind Emma.
Her two friends instantly rolled their eyes. Emma never understood why, but they didn't like her boyfriend, Austin Miller, star quarterback of the school.
"Hey baby," he said, sitting down beside Emma.
"Hey," she smiled as he leaned in to kiss her.
"If you two touch lips in front of me, I swear I'm gonna—"
Ally cut Ava off before she could finish.
"Please, continue. We'll just be on the other side of the cafeteria, where there is less PDA and I can enjoy eating without having the constant feeling of purging at the sight of you," she smiled sweetly.
Ava chuckled. Ally was never this blunt; unless you hit a nerve, of course.
The duo left to sit with their other friends. Austin turned his attention back to his girlfriend.
"Your friends? Total douches," he said to Emma.
Emma started to tense up. "Don't talk about my friends like that,"
Austin raised his hands in defence. "Calm down, I was just stating the truth," he shrugged.
Emma was starting to see why her friends didn't like Austin.
How did things go from a 0 to 100 in two minutes?
Because of Austin Miller.
The brunette herself was starting to rethink this whole relationship thing.
"Let me ask again. What's happening tonight babe?" Austin placed his arms around Emma's shoulder.
Feeling uncomfortable, she shifted in her seat and cleared her throat. "Nothing," she lied.
She did not want to see him tonight.
"Hey Austin! There's a party tonight. See you there! You know where to find me if you need anything," Zack hollered across the cafeteria.
Emma groaned internally, the exact opposite of Ava, who shouted across the cafeteria.
"OH HELL NO, DORITO BOY AIN'T ALLOWED TO COME HONEY,"
The entire cafeteria burst into laughter. Sure, Austin might've been the most popular guy in school, but Emma and her friends? The most popular girls.
Frankly speaking, people enjoyed watching the guys get roasted by the girls a lot more often than the other way around.
"I'll come if I want to! No one's gonna stop me from going to your party, not even you dyke!" Austin yelled angrily.
Upon hearing his words, the whole cafeteria fell silent, except for a few whispers here and there.
"Did he really just call her that?"
"He's going to be in so much trouble,"
"That's the last straw, he's gonna get it for sure this time,"
Ava stood up angrily, but was stopped by someone walking up to the boy himself.
It was a girl. A brunette, to be more specific. She was about Ava's height and wore a white muscle tee with a pair of black ripped jeans.
You could clearly tell she was ripped, not only by her tan and well built arms, but her shirt was so loose you could kinda see her abs whenever she lifted it up slightly in her fit of anger, telling Austin off.
"You don't talk to a girl like that, Miller," she spoke, venom laced in her words.
"I'll do what I want to, I rule this school. Who are you anyway?" the boy replied in a state of confusion.
"Never mind that. Just know that you'll be seeing a lot more of me if you keep up with this shitty attitude of yours," she said, throwing a punch at Austin's face before storming off.
"Get her!" Austin groaned in pain, clutching his bleeding nose. His friends brought him to the nurse's office, while others went after the mysterious girl.
"Who was that?"
"Dude, she looked so hot,"
"Damn, she was really pretty,"
Mia walked up to Ally and Ava. "Hey, what did I miss?" she asked the both of them, setting her tray down.
"We'll fill you in on that later. Who do you think that girl was? She totally stood up for you Ave," Ally babbled.
Emma approached the table and sat with her friends. "I'm sorry guys, I tried to stop him but he wouldn't listen to me,"
They all shook their heads.
"It's alright. If he does come tonight, I'll just make him leave, simple as that," Ava shrugged.
"Just how do you think you're gonna do that?" Emma asked, eyebrows raised.
The Polynesian girl shrugged once more. "I'm inviting her,"
"Her?" Mia asked.
"Her. That girl, the one that told Austin off," she clarified.
"You really want to—"
•••
"Wait wait wait. Hold up," Olivia interrupted Emma.
"You mean Austin forced his way into Ava's party? And I thought Ava likes Seth? Is she...bisexual?"
Emma nodded in agreement.
"Yeah, he did. Ava's bi, yes. And thank the heavens she made the decision to invite that girl," Emma sighed in relief.
"Why?"
"Well, that's how the story unfolds. At the party, Austin came and drank a lot of—" Emma was cut off by a knock at her door.
"Girls, supper's ready," Amanda spoke from the other side.
"Sí, coming mami! We'll have to finish this later, alright?" Emma said as she turned to face Olivia.
"Of course," the older girl smiled and kissed her, causing the younger brunette to let out a sigh of content as she kissed back.
"Let's go,"
