Chereads / To the Moon and Never Back / Chapter 4 - Eyes never Lie

Chapter 4 - Eyes never Lie

My head is in a daze. I got into a fight with Yuna and Vene yesterday, after that, I yelled at my teacher. I came running home and decided to just sleep it off, as that could temporarily make me forget about what happened.

Beside me, I felt my phone vibrating and the ringing sound is muffled by the sheets. Looking at the screen, Yuna's name was written.

"Yes?"

"Are you coming to school today?" She asked without hesitations. "Look.. I know that we have hurt your feelings and your pride, Sana. But come to school.. think about Savannah and Sylvester. If you can't make your dreams come true, your aunt might not give them back to you, she will think that you cannot support the two of them."

Yuna is really not good at these things...

I sighed. "I'm sorry as well.. I said some terrible things." I released another deep breath, pulling on my hair and plopping back down to my bed. "But I can't go to school today too.."

"Why not?"

"I have to make money so I can finally be with the twins again, Yuna.. please, understand me."

"I can't really stop you, can I?"

I smiled, glad that Yuna finally decided to back down. "Yes. I'll see you when I see you, Yuna."

**********************************************

The sun is burning out, as I try to find for a place where I can take a little rest. A spot under the tree would be nice, but unfortunately I'm in an open space. I don't have any choice but to enter a convenience store before I completely pass out.

"Good afternoon," greeted by the man at the cashier. I gave him a smile back as I dashed to find something cold to drink.

I am now in search for a new job, because I know that my current job isn't enough. I need more.. I need more money. Sav and Yves are all that I have right now, and I don't want to spend another night without them by my side. I know that I'm acting like a mother, but you'll understand once you've lost somebody that you really loved.

It was... a nightmare.

A nightmare I am having even though I am awake. No matter how many times I try to shake it off and get it off my mind.. the feeling is still there. I have not seen them die, but I could imagine it. My mother and father, lying on the cold and hard ground.. bathing in their own blood with hearts that are no longer beating.

That is why I don't ever want to have somebody close to my heart, away from me again. I fear that I might lose them in a blink of an eye, I could never do anything but to accept what happened.

I don't want that. No more.

"Look who's here," a voice from my behind spoke as I spun around.

"Sev," I smiled. "What are you doing here?"

He shrugs. "Oh you know.. got hungry but too lazy to even cook my own food.."

I clicked my tongue with a shake of my head. "Why do boys never cook for themselves? Do you live alone?"

Sev turns himself about, grabbing a cup of instant noodle as he carefully studies it. "Yeah I do, sadly. I don't have anyone to live with me."

"As for me, I'm looking for somewhere to live in." I replied, grabbing a bottle of cider and looked at its price. "I'm planning to rent an apartment and take the twins with me."

"Is that why you've been skipping school lately?"

I was stunned. How did he know about that? I'm sure that I didn't tell him anything!

"Deither told me."

"Deither?" I asked. "Oh that Deither! That blabber mouth!"

I heard him chuckle lightly. "Come on.. don't be mad at him. It was only natural for him to worry, Sana. He's your teacher."

"Ha," I rolled my eyes. "A teacher.. well, he can be one in a way where he realizes that his students need help. But mostly, he's a guy who's got nothing else better to do than troll others."

"He's still your teacher, Sana.." Sev sternly replied. "Didn't you want to become one someday? I'm sure you don't want your students thinking like that about you.."

I sighed, he's right. I'm at fault here. I didn't think that I could be such a clown.. dreaming about becoming a respected teacher yet, I cannot respect my own teacher. What a total ass.. I'm so disappointed in you, Sanara.

"The children miss you," Sev snapped me out of my thoughts as he smiles down to me. "They're all waiting for you, Sana. You probably have no idea how much you are loved.."

I sat down on a chair by the glass wall, watching people walk by the store. I placed my chin on the palm of my hand with a pout.

"As much as I want to go, I need to find myself another job. I really want to be with my siblings again, Sev.. this is the only thing I can think of. If I have to give up on high school and my dream.. I will."

"Doing that wouldn't make you a hero," Sev responds as he sat on the seat across me. "Have you ever asked your siblings about this plan of yours? Do they even know?"

I looked at him. "They're three years old, Sev. They really do not need to know."

"That doesn't mean that you should not ask how they feel," he says. "They obviously have a say to this, Sana. Are they not happy being with your aunt?"

"They are." I replied, "Really happy. That it scares me.."

"Scares you?"

I looked right into his eyes. "They might not take my hand. They might choose my aunt over me. I have been away for too long.."

"Do you really want to take them?"

"Of course!" I yelled. "What sister would want to get separated from her siblings? They're my only family.. I don't want them away from me. You would never understand because you don't have anyone, Seven."

Throwing the bottled water on the counter, I stormed out of the convenience store. It seems that I've been getting into fights with people I know lately.. and here I thought they're the ones I can trust.

"Wait!"

Looking over my shoulder, it was Sev who was calling out for me. I began to walk faster, anger and pride told me to do so. I don't want to see his face right now.. I might explode and tell him things I didn't mean to.

"Wait! Sanara!"

"Stop following me!"

"Don't be stubborn and listen to me!"

"What more do you have to say? Sev, I've heard enough!"

"Sanara!"

"Quit following me!"

A large and warm hand, encircling my tiny wrist as I stopped dead from my tracks. Gripping my hand tightly, Sev gently pulled me back. I turned to look at him- hands on his knees, rapid breathing as he quickly composed himself and stood tall in front of me. Unbuttoning his polo as he let out some breath, glaring at me as he smirks.

"What?"

"Damn, you walk fast!" He exclaims, I try to hold in my giggles.

"What do you want to tell me?"

"Huh?"

I grunted. "Didn't you run after me because you had something to sa-"

"Oh yeah! Come and live with me."

Eh?

Frozen up from head to toe, I suddenly forgot how to talk. My tongue has been cut off and I have no voice.

What did he say?

"You wanna live with Savannah and Sylvester again, right?"

I nodded.

"So then.. live with me. After all, I have nobody."

"Sev-"

"I won't charge you for anything. You don't have to pay me."

"Wait, I'm confused.. why-"

"Get the twins and I'll wait for the three of you at home, tonight."

Before he could even turn his back on me, I grabbed his arm and shouted, "What in the world are you thinking?!"

"Huh?"

"Are you seriously thinking with your brain right now, Seven?!"

"Of course. What is this abou-"

"Why did you suddenly give me an offer like that?! Are you pitying me?!"

"What? No! Of course not!"

"Then, why?!"

"I wanna help you." He answered, holding me down by my shoulders as he smiles at me. "And I am being completely honest. I really want to help you, Sana."

His eyes were telling the truth. Seven is not doing this out of pity.. it was true as they say, look at the eyes as they never lie.

"So?" He asks, "What do you say? Are you going to come and live with me?"

I swallowed a huge lump in my throat. I am really thankful for him to actually say that he will take us in, but... I still have to think about this thoroughly.

"I-I'll talk with the twins about this.. I'll give you a reply by then."

"I'll be waiting, as I am in no rush." Seven gave me a heartwarming smile which almost melted the entire me. He then gave me a pat on the head and slowly started walking away to get himself home.

Think, Sanara! Think!
