Chereads / Kurami: The Nine-Tailed Fox / Chapter 5 - Last missing piece

Chapter 5 - Last missing piece

Between Japan and China there is a small country called Ryoiki State.

The citizens believed that some of the big families are descendants of both gods and demons that is why their country continue to flourish each day.

They value this belief greatly that a rule was made to respect the strong.

Guns are banned from their country, though they are already modernized like the neighboring countries but the weapons they use is only limited to blades and swords.

So at the heart of Edo City in Ryoiki state a Union was made to balance the power.

The tallest and largest establishment was both admired and feared by others. The Special Ability Union stood tall and bright in the middle of the night and at the highest floor, inside the conference room are three figures speaking in such seriousness.

"Are you really sure it's Prime? I admit there are rumors about her strength and inhuman speed but she's been inactive for some time now. We can't even find a trace of her, it only makes me doubt that she's hiding now cause she can't live up with those rumors about her. What if she's not the one we're looking for? Then all our efforts would be in vain." Ice explained, her arms crossed.

She has this long white-blue hair that only made her already pale skin paler. Her blue eyes are akin to an ice crystal as it looks cold and emotionless.

It was the reason why many dubbed her as the Ice Princess. She looks so cold: literal and figurative.

Even though she speaks in such tone, the man sitting at the head chair looks relaxed and laid back.

This man has an air of natural elegance with  him, like a devilishly handsome idle prince.

Anyone who sees him would always have one thought in mind: A face that can topple a city.

With a long dark hair that hides his perfect jawline, and a pair of phoenix eyes, even his  narrow and straight nose greatly complimented the small thin lips.

Still, the pair of dark eyes exuded a dangerous vibe to it but every time his lips would form into a smile he looks so harmless, like an obedient puma.

"It seems like you forgot how she inflicted extreme fear at everyone five years ago. Of how she wrecked havoc at the whole city. Remember that I was there when she went for a killing spree." Kai reminder her.

He was there, the night five years ago, when the name Prime has started planting fear. She killed a lot of people with a bloodthirsty smile on her lips and her eyes are like a pool of deep water— cold and dark.

Behind her are her gang, who wear the same mask but with a different color, just supporting her like a general with her army. And she stood tall and proud, the bloody sword in her right hand.

That time, everyone trembled at the sight of her.

"Ah, my men just contacted me." Shun, the boy who has been sitting silently interjected.  "They found traces of the Kitsune gang near Stone Mountain. They ambushed the Black Wolves before they can enter the small village near it, but the Kitsune gang suddenly vanished after they passed the mountain."

"It is really hard to look for her. They always vanish without a trace, and we don't even know the identity behind the mask."

Kai just smiled at the boy whose eyes are focused at the laptop in front of him with a lollipop dangling between his teeth.

It is true that finding an unknown person is difficult.

However, time is running out.

"We need to find her before the Oni does." He told them. "As the last missing piece of the puzzle she can't fall right through their hands."

He walked towards the floor to ceiling window, his long hair cascading behind him.

The window is a little misty where countless droplets are starting to form. A drizzle started not too long ago and the people below are hurrying to go home or look for shelter.

Kai smiled genuinely at the sight— remembering something but that smile immediately faded, as if it was just an illusion.

Just like the girl who offered him an umbrella. Smiling sweetly and innocently— still untainted by the darkness of the world.

"Here. I'm small, I guess we could fit in my umbrella."

She was so kind to invite a stranger to share the umbrella with her. She is so trusting and gullible.

And now, that girl is already an illusion.
