Chapter 23 - THE VILLAGE WITCH

ROBBIE'S POV

It's already midday when I awoke from my dream, the sun is high up in the sky and the heat is quite unforgiving. Despite this however I still, without any second thoughts left the house as quickly as I got ready. Right at this moment, I'm a man with a mission, and in my hand is the list of ingredients for Amber's revival.

Under the heat of the sun and along the roadside, Amber and I walk side by side.

Once more I looked at the written ingredients in the paper.

According to this, we're going to need a virgin's blood, sulfur, candles soaked in black goat's blood, the heart of an innocent, and a human sacrifice.

I have read the list before but even now the pit of my stomach crunch in disgust as I think about it. However, that doesn't mean I'm going to back down. Too much has been taken away from us and Amber deserves to live a life and I will give that to her, no matter the cause.

We arrived at our first destination it was a small hut at the eastern end of the woods. The hut looks like a wrecked mess, the walls are made of hardened mud but the cracks are evident, while long pieces of woods are horizontally placed along the mud wall as if to keep the place standing. The roof of the hut is made of long grass tied together and in the edges are ragged dolls hanging are placed with their neck tied in a thin string. Due to the tree growing high on both sides of the hut; it looked dark, ominous even as if the owner wished to drive everyone away from the place.

I knock on the door twice before speaking "Hello? Is anyone here?" I asked.

But there is no response, therefore, I decided to knock once more. Before my fist reaches the door, however, the door opened reviling an old woman.

The old woman's face is wrinkled, her hair is long and gray while her teal colored eyes are glaring at me accompanied by dried up lips with a deep frown. To be honest her unfriendly behavior reminds me of a certain man leaving within the forest.

"What do you want boy?!" she asked, her voice is so loud I think my ears just started ringing.

"W-well…can we talk inside please?" I asked her while giving a small smile.

"Talk inside? And what let that spirit inside? I think not" I was taken aback she can see Amber?

I looked over Amber with a questioning look, but she only raised her shoulder and shook her head.

"But we won't take long, we just needed somethings" I told the old woman.

"If you insist I can let you in but just you, alone. The spirit waits here." I looked over to Amber.

Amber just smiled at me "It's alright, I can just stay here. Hurry now" she said as she gave me a kiss on my forehead.

I glanced at the old woman while she stepped aside the door to give way.

Looking at Amber one more time, I proceeded to enter the hut. She gave me a smile and waved her hand, but as I turned my head I caught a glint in her eyes. A dangerous look, I only shook the thought because that can't be. Amber is the kindest person that I know of she can't possibly think of something bad.

Entering the hut: its interior is not much different from the exterior, other than the light coming from a few candles in the table placed in the center of the hut the place is very dark. However despite the darkness, I could still make out the ornaments hanging from the ceiling, there's a bunch of dried herbs tied together and hanged with a string, a huge antler is hanged right behind the table while just like outside dolls are hanging from the ceiling.

"Here sit down" she said pointing at a poorly made-up chair, consisting of woods and ropes.

Walking towards the chair, I stepped on something and with a horrifying crunch I almost jump out off of my own skin. Looking down I saw a small skull which is now crushed under my right foot- horrified, I quickly proceeded to take the seat I was given.

"You are making a big mistake boy" she immediately said as she pointed her crooked finger at me.

"The other world is not to be toyed with" she continued.

I know but I'm not playing around, I'm doing this for a reason.

"I'm well aware, I appreciate the warning. Now can we get back to my initial business" I stated as I looked straight at her.

"I see how it is, that evil spirit has her hands around you quiet tightly" her words infuriated me.

I knitted my brows together and gritted my teeth so tightly.

"She is NOT an evil spirit" I stated as calmly as I could.

"Now the only things I needed from you are candles soaked in black goat's blood and sulfur. Are you going to help me or not?" my irritation is getting the best of me but for her to call Amber an evil spirit is an insult I can't take lightly.

"I see, then you're going to summon a demon in order to bring her back" she said with a sigh.

"What of it? I simply replied.

"Summoning a demon is not without a price to pay; those creatures will make you do the most horrible sins, twist your mind into a tool for their bidding and then drag your damned soul in hell for them to feast on. Are you sure a dead woman is worth all of that?" she asked as she looked straight into my eyes.

"Yes, she is worthy and not just of that but she's worth everything" I told her with full confidence.

"Well isn't that lovely" she said and for a moment I was shocked.

Until

"Is that what you're expecting to say?" the old woman chucked.

"How foolish you're throwing everything in the gutter for a dead person" she stood up and opened a sack place in the side of the room.

"I'm not going to stop you but let me tell you, that whatever you're going to revive will no longer be her. She had been playing and she will keep on doing the same thing" the old placed a bag she took out from the sack on the table and with a putrid scent similar to that of a rotten egg- I crunched my nose.

"Whatever you had with her before is long gone but those memories will be used as a weapon against you, to control you"

I stay in complete silence I couldn't care less about what she is telling me, all I wanted is to have the person I loved back in my life once more.

The old lady took a sealed jar under the table "here's your candles, a fair warning open them slowly and out in an open area. The rotting goat's blood is not exactly friendly with one's nose"

I quickly took the things that she placed on the table.

"How much is everything?" I asked but she only chucked.

"What about the sleeves for your shirt?" she asked.

"What?" I said clearly dumbfounded.

With a heavy sigh, the old lady spoke.

"Long ago I was in the same path as you, foolishly dedicated to do as what I thought was right. But I was wrong and I'm now bound to a contract that breaks my soul each time there's a knock on the door. I am to help foolish mortal to damn their soul and make the same mistake that I've made until the demons drag my own soul into the abyss" there was a lump on my throat making me unable to speak.

I just sat there as I watch her eyes glimmer under the faint light of the candles.

"I can still remember, you are the one hundred and seventy-eight" all of this time she had been counting?

"Now, look at them all" she said pointing at the dolls hanging from the ceiling.

"It's already too late for them but not for you. Think it through, will you? The last thing I want is to make another doll for an unwanted guess"

I stood up ready to leave.

"I should go and to tell you the truth I will never change my mind, never"

That was the last thing I told her before ripping the sleeves of my shirt and placed them on the table.

"My guts are telling me that you will be back and they have never been wrong" she said one last time before I exited the hut.
