Chapter 17 - Memories of Her 18 Years

"Whom may you be?" she pleaded like she didn't know him at all.

"H-Huh? No…" he reached her as he doesn't believe it. "I-I'm Eleanor!" he exclaims, but Alex becomes scared of him. "You used to call me Ellie from high school!"

"Umm… I'm sorry!" she said as she doesn't understand what happened to him. "I don't understand!" she acts as she walks away from him.

"No, why not?" he gripped her hand as he stopped her from walking away. "I'm Ellie! Eleanor! It's me! Why can't you recognize me?!" he roared, but it implies that he's scaring her.

"I'm sorry!" she rushed away from him. Ellie felt confused about why she can't remember him. He can't believe what's happening to him.

"Eleanor… right?" someone called out his name to him. Ellie turned around, and he saw Christian down the stairwell, glancing at him.

Ellie and Christian went to a café to talk things about what happened to Alex. Ellie wants the answers as he communicates to him.

"Listen, the Alexandria you saw earlier doesn't remember you."

"What? She had surgery on her brain… She's alive! The surgery was a success, wasn't it?" he emphasized.

"It was successful… Well… I can't say that. After the surgery was over, she passed into a catatonic state for a long time. A few months later, she miraculously regained consciousness, but… she had severe memory deterioration. She doesn't really recall what happened before the surgery. That means including you too," he explained.

Ellie didn't expect that to happen. He did not know what Alex endured after her surgery. He didn't know what to do that things got complicated now.

"In that case, if I speak to her, she might remember!"

"Stop it."

"Why?! If I speak to her, she might get her memory back…"

"She has been this way for six years!" he yelled as he interrupted him. "Have you ever considered about how she suffers? She knows nothing about herself! Seventeen years worth of her memories gone! Do you understand that? You're hurting her. You're desperately trying to evoke something out of her!" he emphasized as he wants for him to understand the condition. Ellie realized that he's hurting her as he wants to remember him. It is something unacceptable to happen.

"Ever since she lost her memory… I've gotten closer to her. It differs from the six months you spent with her. If you're thinking about her well-being… Forget about her."

Ellie can't express a word to him because what he said was true. It's time to forget about her and keep moving forward. There's no way that Alex will remember a thing about him. He can't blame himself for what happened.

"I'm going to get married to Alexandria," Christian said, and he walks away as he leaves the café.

Ellie visits his old room as he was thinking about his thoughts. He took his novel, and he reads the chapter where the magic of love took place for the two of them. He believed that one day, Alex come back to him.

Meanwhile, at Christian's house, Alex is confused about what happened earlier in the park. She found her necklace that Ellie gave to her six years ago, inside her drawer. She felt something strange when she held the necklace. Something that has been lost for a long time.

"Christian?"

"What is it?" he asked while he's sipping his coffee.

"Today, A man I didn't know talked to me,"

"Ahh... I saw that. Don't worry about it. He was calling out to you, but it implied like he mistook you for someone else," He said as he lied to support her.

"Is that so?"

"Where do you want to go next? Is it okay if we go to the front of your house?"

"Okay. Thanks for going out with me because of my selfishness," she said, as she smiles at him.

"Don't worry about it. This is important for our future."

Alexandria is still holding her necklace like it's essential to her. She sensed something magic when she carried it. She suddenly felt sad when she felt nostalgic feelings from back then.
