Chereads / The light goddess / Chapter 6 - Chapter 5

Chapter 6 - Chapter 5

"My report sir, the message was delivered to the persons in question, the maid and the twin. The female however, tried to kill me, it seems she hates all creatures born of  darkness and she was speaking a strange language. I couldn't understand anything she was saying but her brother understood and could even translate."

"And the maid?"

"She didn't say or do anything, your highest, she just stood there."

"All according to plan. Good work Groth." He says with a sinister smile.

After a 30 minute walk, thanks to Mira, we finally reach the temple. Looking up the huge stairs, leading to the skyscraper like building with vertical walls reaching for the sky, I sigh.

Looking back, "Mira, aren't you coming?"

With a frighten look on her face. Yeah.... Yeah.... I never liked this place. Although it's a temple, this place still gives me the creeps."

"Just remember why we're here."

"Okay." She says while hesitantly walking forward.

"Didn't I tell you to leave that scythe back at the house." Watching my enraged sister climb the steps.

"Et ego dixi vobis clausus. (And I told you to shut up.)" looking back with tears in her eyes, she snaps at me.

"You're not killing anyone." I shout, following her.

Thinking I can't hear her, "Quod stupra. (Screw that!)"she says under her breath.

I sigh.

Rona reaching the top of the stairs, she pushes the two huge wooden doors inward and stays there, waiting for us to be at her side.

As I get to the door, I sense eyes watching.

Inside is dimly lit with candles of all sizes, empty benches arranged neatly in straight lines on opposite sides of the room. Next to the door there's a staircase leading to the floor directly above us by which it's to dark to see but I know there're people standing there.

"Cincta erant. (We're surrounded.)" she says not particularly to anyone.

"Yh, I know. We were being watched from the time the fairy gave us a visit." Now regretting leaving my swords at the house.

"Wait, seriously?"

I look back in confusion. "Even as a feline, you couldn't at lease smell them?"

"No." Her ears and tail droop in shame.

Briskly walking forward with scythe in hand and anger written all over her face. "Quia non refert. Et quis terminus umquam accipit In vía. (That doesn't matter. I'll end who ever gets in my way.)"

"Welcome, I assume everyone is present and ready to begin." A stern, manly voice coming from the stage at the end of the hallway.

Walking towards the voice, the lights gets brighter. A tall, older man can be easily seen. His hair is black with grey lines running from the front to the back of his head. His face looks too young for his obvious age without any wrinkles or freckles, almond shaped brown eyes and a slightly sinister smile. He's barefooted, dressed in a white and gold gown with dirt marks located by the knees by which constant kneeling for prayer.

Looking behind him, I can make out a table like structure with a body, wrap from head to toe in white cloth.

'That must be uncle.' I say to myself

Now half way closer to the man, I can hear what seems like a choir, raising their voices in a airy tone. I look around but unable to locate where the voices are coming from.

"We are gathered here today in remembrance of Luis deli Insignum. He was loved by all, his family, his friends and coworkers. This untimely death was a tragedy to all and justice will be served."

Stomping the scythe, breaking the wooden floor. "Perfide. Et hominem hypocritam proter stupri. (You bastard. You fucking hypocrite.)"

Placing my hand on her shoulder. "Easy Rona."

Giving us a condescending smile, he turns, facing the body and raises his hands. "With this holy flame, we release this soul onto Tricia the light goddess herself, that his man may find peace in the after life."

With a flick of his hands, the table is set on fire.

Now turning back to face us, a figure dressed in all black with its face covered, walks quickly towards him from behind the pillar, handing him a scroll. As fast as the figure appears, it disappears just as quickly.

Reading from the scroll. "In this fellowship, we call the last known testament of the deceased. To the insignum twins, nicholas and Corona, all the weapons, mythical relics and artifacts ever discovered. To Mira Puriti, his estate and with a generous heart, all finances are donated to the high temple."

"Filius autem.... (You son of a....)" pulling away from me and raking the scythe on the floor as she walks towards the stage.

Hearing the crackling noises of the fire, the airy voices of the invisible choir and seeing the black magical mist radiating from my sister's body as she gets angrier, I shout. "Rona, stop."

Not listening to me, rona is face to face with the man, her scythe's blade to his neck and tears running down her face.

"Why....why are you so calm Nico, after all this?" Mira asks from directly behind me.

The choir stops

"Because, he can't think clearly with an angered spirit. Unlike this one, who's emotions control her every decision."

"Et tibi motus, vos bastardus. (I'll show you emotional, you bastard.)" she spits, cutting the man's neck putting more force on the weapon.

Moving closer. "I don't think we've met, I'm....."

Cutting me off and flinching in pain. "I know who you are. Your reputation exceeds you." Looking dead into Rona's eyes.

"Parum vobis cacas. Ultima verba dicere vestram coram vobis diligenter caput non habent dicere de eis. (You little shit. Say your last words carefully before you don't have a head to say them out of.)"

Not saying anything he just smiles.

"News travels fast, doesn't it?" Trying to prolong the conversation and get out information before my sister decapitates him.

"As...as one of the high priest, I must know what goes on inside these walls." Balling his fist as pain runs through his body.

"Arrogant ass." Mira whispers.

"Then you must know who killed our uncle."

"I do. When Luis came back, he wasn't alone. He had others with him."

"What's that suppose to mean? He always have others with him, he doesn't go on his journeys alone....." Mira shouts.

Raising my hand, signaling Mira to stop. "And do you know who they were?"

"Unfortunately, I do not but these creatures were not of this land."

"You speak as if you saw them yourself."

Now with blood running from his wound. "I have eyes everywhere."

"Obviously." Mira says in a sarcastic tone.

"These creatures, were they human or beast-man?"

"They were dark elves, maid." With disgust in his voice.

With the scratch now turning to a full on cut. "Possum te facere ut non vitam, non mentiri nos iterum. (I can see you don't like life, don't lie to us again."

"Omnibus verbis ejus mendacium? (Are all of his words lies?)" communicating with only my sister.

Looking back at me. "Sic, sic lets 'iustus autem eum occidere. (Yes, so let's just kill him now.)"

"Non enim eros, porttitor, nos pol illum extra civitatem: et ego sine armis, ferro iter aperieendum est. (No Rona, we'll have to fight our way out of the city and I'm unarmed.)"

"Cuius culpa est? (Whose fault is that?)"

Interrupting our conversation. "Why don't we all speak so everyone can understand?"

Changing my focus from my sister to the high priest. "We were just saying, since you know everything that goes on it this city, then you know your life isn't any different from anyone else's and we can kill you and still get plenty of rest tonight."

"But you're not going to, are you?"

"Why the hell not?" Stepping forward with frowns on her forehead.

"Because maid, if they were, they would have done it by now. Not asking these questions."

Retracting the scythe in her hand from his neck. The black magical mist dissipates. "I oderunt eum. (I hate him.)"

Applying pressure with his hands to stop the fiercely bleeding wound. "I know s-class huntsman are exceptional warriors but they don't use magic, unlike you two. I also know that all huntsman are only human, but I sense more within you..."

Cutting him off. "Neither the less, we will take your word high priest, we will find out whose responsible and make them pay with their life."

"I know you will 'Nico'." He says in a mockingly tone.

Being very annoyed at that statement. I burst. "You don't get to call me that.

Interfector. (Murderer.)"

"I do apologize."

Turning to walk away, and get as far away as possible from him, I call. "Come Rona, we're not welcomed here anymore."

Being face to face with me. "So we're just leaving? What about master?"

Walking past her. "As you can see, there's nothing left."

Now peering to the table, only flames can be seen. No body, no cloth, nothing. "Shit."

In a highly unpleasant tone. "I hope this doesn't stop you from enjoying your stay in the city."

Flicking the blood off her blade. "Im 'iens te redde propter hoc, sicut non expectare. (I'm going to make you pay for this, just you wait.)"

"Scio. (I know.)" The high priest replies, in the language only me and my sister was taught to know.

At the door, I look back seeing Rona staring with confusion written all over her face. I shout. "Rona!"

Changing my focus from Rona to Mira, walking towards her with her hand out to grab her, I hear. "Come Rona, let's go."

Knowing what's about to happen, I run and shout towards them. "No Mira, don't grab her."

As soon as Mira's hand touches Rona, a purple spark of electricity runs through Mira's body, electrocuting her, causing an explosion and sending her flying towards me.

"Stercore! (Shit!)" realizing what's happening a bit too late.

Now making a speedy landing head first, I jump, catching her and stopping any more damage to her body.

With Mira's twitching body in my hands, I lightly slap her face to see if she withstood the explosion and is awake. "No, no, no. Wake up you idiot."

Rona runs to my side. "Ego autem non intelliguntur, non ut ipsam apprehendit me. (I didn't mean to, she just grabbed me)."

With a broad grin on his face. "Wow, such power."

Realizing where we are still, I put Mira's unconscious body over my shoulder and start running outside. "Come Rona."

Through the wooden doors of the temple, I place down the body and look up at my sister with anger in me. "Why don't you ever listen. Look what happened."

With hysteria in her voice. "Ego paenitet, ego autem non intelliguntur. I, imperium perdidit. Me paenitet. (I'm sorry, I didn't mean to. I lost control. I'm sorry.)"

"I always tell you to think about what the fuck you're doing. Now give me the Skyrim." With my hand out.

Snapping her fingers, a glass bottle appears. She hands me the potion. "Mortuus est? (Is she dead?)"

Taking it from her, I undo the cover and pour the purple sparkling liquid into Mira's mouth.

Mira's body stops twitching. "No, but I just hope no serious damage was done."

Looking around, I see people are starting to gather around the stairs. I stand. "She's going to be out for awhile. We need to get back to the house."

I pick back up the now limp body and start walking again.

With a sad expression on her face, she whispers. "Paenitet. (I'm sorry.)"

Back at the temple, a figure appears next to the priest. "Follow them."

The figure disappears.
