2nd October 2007
Kang slowly opens his eyes to see his phone, vibrating at the lamp table, about to fall. He took it and it was a phone call from one of his friends at the University, he climbed out of the bed, sat down at a bean bag at the living room. "Cindy, what do you want?" He turned on video call. Cindy is a hispanic dark elf, she's a bit taller than Kang, she's a curvy elf for her age (19). She lives at the campus with her girlfriend, Kira, a armenian pixie (19).
"Have fun semester break, amigo!" Kira hugged Cindy from behind. "You sure you don't need a job to support for your girlfriend and Alexie?" Cindy doubted Kang, this is due to Kang being a lazy shit. They both knew about Alexie since the start of the first semester 6 years ago. They both taking doctor courses. Cindy dreams to be a Chemist while Kira's ambition is to be a zoologist with her interest for Kangaroos.
"I'm looking for a part-time job today." He reassured by his financial will be helped by his new job for the break. "Make sure, the salary is enough for the tree of you, especially Alexie, she's now in 1st grade now!" Kira acquiesced to remind Kang about it. "Yeah, yeah. I need to get ready to look for a job." He ended the conversation, and washed up.
After getting ready, he scrawled down a note to notify the three of them. He strode along the road, past some staff opening up their shops, stores and supermarkets. He stopped by the 24/7 store and bought a cup of coffee and a packet of granola bars. He stepped out of the store and continue his stroll for a job. He pulled out his phone with some earphones and played a playlist full of his favorite songs.
He arrived at a rickety and old tape rent shop between a supermarket and a pharmacy.
"HELP WANTED"
Kang pulled the poster off the window and went inside the bizarre store. It was dark inside, there was only one light left working, yet it's dimly lit. He took a few steps further as the floor boards creaks through the whole place.
"AH!"
BAM!
He tripped over a pile of old tapes. It was now messier than before. He sighed as he stood up and picked up all of the tapes. He dashed through all of the old dusty iron rack for a duster. He dusted all of the old iron rack, later, he proceeds to puts all the tapes on the racks in genre and alphabetical order. He did this for a few times until all of the tapes were in place. Next, he took a broom and sweeped the whole trashy and dusty place.
'Finally.' He sighed out of relief. The whole place was spotless. If people could see this in a clear light, which it literally isn't right now, they will be in awe. "Greg." A man in his 50s climbed down from the 2nd floor. "Greg, did you clean this up? If you did, you made this whole place spotless. But if you didn't, who did it?" The old man was standing still for someone's his age. Kang stood up as he brushed dust from his shirt.
"I did." Kang made sure the old man acknowledges his presence in his store. The old man brushed past Kang, and towards the wooden counter. He took his half-moon glasses of the counter, it also has some tapes wrapped at some places. He puts it on and was shocked to see such young man at a store that has aged a lot. "Why youth like you doing here?" He leaned over the counter.
"I found this poster in front of the store." He handed the piece of orange paper to the man. "This is not from our store. This is from the pharmacy next door." He crushed the orange paper into a small paper ball. Kang shrugged "The pharmacy looked like they have more than enough workers."
"The name's Stanley Stockholm. I've been the owner of this store longer than you have ever lived." He offered a hand shake to Kang. Kang shook hands with him "I'm Kai." He took Kang to the counter. "Your first task is to fix this place up." He ordered Kang to do so. "Wait, how much does all this cost?!" Kang was shocked about his task for his first job...
"All I know is it's cost more than 5 dollars.." Stan just stood there, quiet. "Why though?" Kang lay his head down on the counter, sadly. "Have you seen people coming in today? They think this place is a joke, you see!" Stan snapped at the question. "I'll figure something out..."
He looked over Stan's shoulder to look at the old clock. Stan sneered Kang "Don't bother. The clock's have stopped working for a long time ago." Kang then pulled out his phone as his eyes rolled at Stan.
3:00 pm, 2nd October 2007
"I gotta go, I'll figured out about the situation here." He walked out the store and strode along the streets to the bus station.
"Where to?"
"Silver Creek Elementary. Also a 4:20 pm ticket to the Estate Library!"
He arrived at the school to pick up Alexie. Alexie came out with a sorrowful face, it makes you feel sorry for her. "Lex, what's wrong?" He kneel down before Alexie. "I wanted to play soccer with the other kids but there was this boy named Malachi came up to me and said that girls cannot play soccer." She sobbed. Her knees were full of bruises. "I'll make him think for what he did to my little girl" Kang kissed Alexie's forehead as he rubs her back to calm her down.
They arrived at The Estate Library where Haru works. Bryan was just waiting for Alexie and Kang with Haru at the car. "What happened?" Bryan took a look at Alexie's bruised knees. "There was this 3th grade boy, Malachi who pushed her away just for wanting to play Soccer." Kang explained the whole story. Bryan sighed "I'll see your teacher tomorrow."
"Hey."
"What?"
"I want to talk to you about something tomorrow on to work."
"You've got a job now?"
"Yes"
"That's great."
