Chapter 15 - Dungeon Diving

It has been a few days after little Isabelle started working at the inn which attracts more and more customers, i decided that it's time i set off for another quest. The last one is satisfying but it didn't bring much loot aside from money which i doubt can buy anything unique unless i have a fuck ton of it.

Me: Hey Roxanne.

Roxanne: Yeah?

Me: I'm heading out for another quest, be sure to let the customers know.

Roxanne: Alright but come back soon ok? The place isn't the same without you around.

Isabelle: can you bring back something for me *puppy eyes activated*

Me: Of course dear.

I hug Isabelle one last time and wave goodbye to Roxanne before i head to the guild again. You can clearly see the improvements since the last time i've been here. Thanks to the giant pot of goulash i made along with the silver i gave them of 1 per person, the people looks far more cheerful and less dirty. They no longer wear rags but now instead wear farmhand overalls just like the townsfolks and even after spending the silver on clothes they can still afford some small meals. Some of them even got jobs at different farms so all and all, things are starting to improve.

Back at the guild, i was looking at the job board to search for a suitable quest but none of them is as high rank as the previous goblin one. Seeing me frozen in place, Matt makes his way over.

Matt: Picking a quest eh lad?

Me: Yes, but none of these seems exciting.

Matt: well that is to be expected, the branch of the guild here rarely gets platinum or above quests, if you are looking for spicy stuffs then you're better off at the capital of Novistud, Canvastor. Although, there's this new quest in that's for a gold party but the area it takes place in... rumors had it that the dungeon used to belong to a powerful necromancer in the past that rivals the strength of the great heroes, we can't confirm it because of how deep the place is but detection spells show powerful entities dwelling beneath.

Me: Sounds perfect, what exactly does the quest ask you to do?

Matt: The objective is to retrieve 4 giant cave bats wings, the dungeon has a lot of them down there but don't go below the 3rd floor. We don't know what lies beyond it.

Me: Don't worry about it, i'll be cautious.

Current quest: retrieve 4 giant cave bats wings

Arriving at the designated area i can't help but feel a resemblance to the dungeon i came from. This one also has a huge cave mouth with a built in gate with mossy stone walls leading inside only this gate is made of iron instead of wood like mine. The trees around the place are all dead and leafless even with some scorch marks on them. Furthermore, there's nothing but silence, not a chirp from a bird not even the draft of the wind not even a single slime to be seen. All the alarms in my head are screaming for me to get away from this horror movie cliche crap but i ain't gonna chicken out.

The gate looks rusty enough for me crack it open with a few swing. Yeah no, blood reaver can barely pick locks and is already damaged as it is, i'm shooting the fucking lock *BANG* *creak*. The rusty gate nearly flew out of its hinges at the impact as i push the thing open and journey down. Surprisingly, the first floor don't even have skeletons or ghouls, it's either passive mobs like rabbits or just slimes. The second one however, it has a buttload of skeletons that almost remind me of tomb of the giants from dark souls, the numbers were just in the hundreds. Good thing that they can't even scratch me although they proof to be annoying at times. Eventually after hacking and slashing through the piles of bones i saw a spiral staircase leading downwards to the 3rd floor. I gained a total of 33 bone powder with 14 copper 3 silver and 1 gold from the encounter.

The third floor was unusual to say the least. Instead of stone walls and wooden floors, the entire area is just a giant caver with muddy walls. I guess it's just beasts here instead of mobs. Strange, i don't see any bats around, wait a second... I look up and to my fucking surprise i was right, the suckers are hanging on the ceiling. They're bats roughly the size of 3 bald eagles with blood-shot eyes, sharp talons and 2 massive fangs in their mouth. Although there are only 4, considering their sizes it's really troubling.[observe]

Giant cave bats

Level:35

Hp:575

Atk:120

Description: A greater beast usually found in dimly lit areas of dungeons or deep park of the dark forest. They lack toughness for monsters of their level but they compensate for it with their incredible speed and high attack power. Its specialty is hit and run and sonic blasts can stun adventurers easily, recommended tactic is direct confrontation.

*SKREEEEEEE* oh my fucking ears, this almost hurts like the time my ears got punctured listening to toxic fornite scrubs. Immediately, one of them dove straight for me with its talons raised. It acted purely on instinct predicting what an adventurer would do right now. Unfortunately for it, i'm not an ordinary adventurer and instead of running or dodging like the other adventurers the bats had seen. I stood there with my sword raised and toss the shield at its face right before it crash into me disorientating it. Taking this chance, I do an overhead slash straight at its neck and chops the head clean off. The other bats were visibly startled at their kin death and become enrage with their eyes glowing brighter by the seconds. They too lunge at me but they didn't make the same mistake as before, they're doing it together at the same time. Shit, i can't dodge this, i'll just have to block it head on. *CLANG* *CLANG* *CRASH* I was able to successfully block the first two bats but the third one knock me off balance and embed my shield into the wall. This isn't good, they are circling back and i don't have enough time to go for the shield (even if i did i wouldn't be able to keep blocking like that). EUREKA! I found their weakness! When they start flying in towards me, they'll always fly together before separating into the right, left and above. I can use this window of time where they are grouped together to my advantage. I'm going to need more gunpowder after this but it'll be worth it. I timed it to the moment where they're the closest to each other and then toss the gunpowder pouch at them and ignite with [flames]. The pouch caught fire and lit up the cave like the 4th of July as the bats are completely engulfed in the explosion. *KABOOM* and the rain of blood and guts from the bats completely drench me.

Woooo! that was some intense shit! come on show me the goodies... oh wait nearly everything was gone from that explosion, no coins but hey at least the 5 wings are still mostly intact, i really don't want to fight another group of those annoying shitheads.

{giant cave bat wing}

Rarity: rare

Description: an alchemy ingredient used for a levitation potion and has other medicinal properties that can be made into various cures/remedies.

Hmmm, this will only give me the reward for the quest and a spare wing, my looting thirst refuses to return like this. Well there's that ladder to the edge of the cave that leads below... Ah fuck it i already died once, life's a gamble and gambling is life, you bet your ass i'm going deeper.
