After many wasted minutes of the council and Nan yelling at one another and getting nowhere closer to figuring out what happen to mom, I decided I couldn't just sit around and wait for the adults to decide on a plan. I was in total agreement with Nan that mom was taken by Christopher but, I didn't like how she agreed with the council that we needed to have more information before we went off to find them. I knew where they were or at least a good place to start. This whole mess lead back to the camp and that is where Christopher attention was directed lately.
I sat in the seat mom was earlier trying to feel her again. Tristen was next to me with Amber and Kat sitting in the row ahead of us. Both girls were facing back towards us. Amber had concern and pity in her eyes while Kat had the look of, I am down for whatever, and I'll bring the shovel. Yeah Kat was my kind of person right now. Tristen however, was staring at me as if there were something wrong with me. I knew I was blocking him out right now. His face said as much with the confusion written all over it. He never once looked away from me. But I could not look at them, I was too focused on trying to feel my mom. I know I can find her.
Under my skin I felt this current of energy, I am not for sure if it was nervous energy or what but I was itching to get moving. And these adults were taking they time worrying about doing it the right way. I couldn't take it anymore; I stand up and start walking out the room. Tristen is right on my heels, "Where are you going" he asks. Not even looking back I answer, "To find my mom". I mean really its not that hard to figure out I think to myself. Where else would I be going?
"Exactly how do you plan on doing that? The council has not told us what they think we should do?" Amber says. I stop dead in my tracks. We are almost outside the building now. "I do not take orders for them. And even if I did, I wouldn't care what they said unless it was to go find her now. They are useless." I am almost yelling by the time I finish. I can feel the energy growing inside me, right along with the anger. Tristen steps between me and his sister, that just makes me worse. Really, I am so scary that he has to protect his sister from me. I stare him in the face, "Maybe they were right about me in there, I am dangerous huh?" I spoke so softly I barely hear myself. I see the shock on his face but, I don't care. I turn and keep going.
When I get to the driveway I go straight to Tristen's car and get in the driver side. It dawns on me then I don't have the keys. I stare at him through the front windshield and I just know that he is not going to give me the keys. His looks say that he does not think this is a very good idea. What is his problem? If this was his mom, he would be doing the same thing as me. My anger keeps building the more I think about it and I start beating the steering wheel with my fist. Over and over I hit and scream, I just want to find my mom. She needs me right now. I need her. I can not loose her. Each hit I feel my body temperature rising and the energy is about to pop. On one finally hit the car starts. I freeze. I look at Tristen to see if he clicked the automatic started and his hands were at his sides. His face is now more confusion.
The passenger side door opens and Kat jumps in. As I look at her, she just nods her head. This girl really is the ride or die kind of girl. The back two doors open and I see in the rearview that Amber and Tristen both have gotten. I don't waste anymore time worrying about what they think or how I got the car to start I push that away and step on the gas.
As I pull back on the main road, Amber cuts the silence by asking "Where are we exactly going? I know to find your mom but where are we looking first?" Her tone was so soft but she did not waver. I looked at her in the mirror and saw she was concerned for me. It wasn't pity anymore it was frightening for me not of me. "The camp, that is where he has been focusing on this whole time so that is where we will start first." I answer her. I made sure that I was speaking calmly.
"Where exactly at the lake are we going to look? That place is huge, he could be anywhere?" Kat asked. I didn't get a chance to answer her before Tristen spoke, "Between the lake and the camp. That is where the fire was before I bet that is where he will be." Nodding my head, I agreed. "I am not for sure why he even cares about that camp, its not been used in a while. This year is the first year it was opened in forever." Kat spoke.
Huh, I wonder why he cares for a camp then. It's not like he gives anything to the camp or has anything to do with it or the kids either for that matter. He doesn't seem like the giving type. "Why wasn't it open?" I asked. It was quiet for a bit until Tristen answered, "It ran down before our parents graduated. It was not used for anything besides kids being stupid and saying it was haunted. Not until is was bought by a couple in New York that fixed it up and opened it this past year."
"Did Christopher try to stop them buying it?" I asked. Amber was shacking her head no. "He never showed any interest until now. Now that doesn't make sense. Why would he be trying to burn it down. Maybe that was just his minions doing. "Tristen can you call Nan and have her see if she can get any information out of Sasha and the crew to why they were trying to burn it down?" I asked. He pulled up his phone and started dialing my Nan.
"Nan, hey we are in the car. Where we are going is not important." Tristen said. "Yes, yes, we know you did not give any orders but, listen there is a reason I am calling. I will have her tell you then." He pulls the phone away from his ear and says, "Nan wants to speak to you." Great why couldn't he just text her.
"Hey, Nan. What's up?" I say in the best child voice I can pull. I know she is going to rip me a new one over this. "Where do you think you are going? I don't need you going and getting yourself in trouble or hurt when I am worried about your mom as is. So, stop this foolishness and come back right now!" Wow Nan was mad.
Clearing my voice, I say," I know that I am worrying you more, I totally get that. But I cannot just sit back and wait. He took mom. My mom, the only parent I have and no one is doing anything." Nan interrupts me, "She is my only daughter! And I am doing everything I possibly can to find her. Now come back!" Taking a deep breath and releasing it, "I am sorry, I didn't say that to hurt you. But I know I can find her. And I know where to start looking. Please give me credit. You say that I am not the normal white lighter. And that I am going to be something great. Well, I feel it in me now that I have to go find her. I have the others with me we will do this together. Please just give me this chance. "I was pleading with Nan to understand what I needed. It was silent in the car for what felt like and hour when it was more like 30 seconds.
"Fine, go check out where you say you think you should look. Do not try any hero stuff just see if you can find anything." Nan said on a sigh. "Now, tell me what you were calling for. I gave the phone back to Tristen and he started explain what I needed him to tell her. Nan finally understood where we were going and why. Especially, when she said, "That lake close to the Camp is the lake that his son was found dead in all those years ago. He is connected to it." Finally, we had some connection. Now just to figure out what he is up to.
