Chapter 1 - 20 Seasons Past (1)

Aria groaned as she tried to ignore her sister's obnoxious singing as she puttered around the house. Aria grabbed her straw pillow and covered her head with it, in hopes that it would block Rhosyn out.

"Why?!" Aria threw the pillow in frustration. Why did her sister have to be up at the crack of dawn? Much less singing? Did she not understand people were still trying to sleep? Aria tossed the thin blanket off and got up. Quickly throwing on a soft pair leather trouser and a white blouse with a corset. She grabbed her long fur cloak from the back of the door and left her small room.

Aria closed her bedroom door and stared at her sister who was dancing around the kitchen. The smell of a fruit pastry wrafted through the air, making Arias stomach growl with hunger. Subconsciously Aria placed her hand against her stomach.

"Aria!" Rhosyn called out. A bright smile plastered across her beautifully structure face. Excitement and happiness danced within her violet eyes. "You're awake. Come break your fast." She grabbed a plate filled with meat, cheese and fruit, placing it on a wooden table with a goblet of liquid.

Aria sat down, mumbling a thank you before eating.

"What has you so peppy this morning?" She said around a mouthful of food.

"Aria, where are your manners? Did mom not teach you better?" Rhosyn scolded as she sat down with her own plate. "It's Saffirs season today. I thought I'd make her a peach pie to celebrate."

Aria froze, "Those peasants you hang with?"

Rhosyn glared at her, "They are not peasants. Not anymore than we are."

"Rhosyn, as you like to always remind me, we weren't born as peasants."

Rhosyn shoved her chair back, and pulled the pastry out of the stove. "Yes well, it's been eighty seasons and no changes. This is our life now. It's just time to accept it." she sighed.

Aria watched Rhosyn place the pastry in a wickery basket, silently rejoicing in her sisters words, "Are you sure? I know how much it meant to you."

"Yes well, I can do good here too." Rhosyn turned around, "I'm off to see my friends." She put her cloak on, "don't forget to drink your goblet! It better be empty when I return home."

Aria stared at the goblet with her face scrunched up in disgust when the sound of the door opening reached her ears and she realized something.

"Wait, Rhosyn, where is - " Aria trailed off as Rhosyn had disappeared out the door.
