Chapter 6 - 20 Seasons Pass (6)

She turned to see the man had begun to run after her, his helmet back in place and sword low. Turning, she faced the stone walls and breathed in deeply.

"Its now or never." She whispered as she put the sword under her belt. She closed her eyes and focused her mind, pushing away the immediate threat until her thoughts were as calm as still water. It was then that she felt it, the power deep within her ̶- within all of the dragons blood. For a moment, her sense seemed acute, superhuman, time slowing to almost a crawl. Aria opened her eyes and rushed at the wall, sprinting like the wind before taking a leap. Her feet hit the stone wall, but she did not stop, she propelled herself up the stone face like a stone launched from a trebuchet.

Before she knew it, she was in the air, clearing the wall entirely and disappeared over the other side. She caught a glimpse of the guardsman's face, agape with disbelief before she passed over the battlements, landing silently on the other side. She heard a yell from the other side and the gate chains creaking as they worked on opening the door.

Aria fought down the urge to cheer and bolted, heading for the questionable safety of the treeline and putting the whole situation behind her. Not realizing what she just did.

Meanwhile, back in Vizara, Rhosyn walked through the bustling streets. Shopkeepers were calling out deals, making transactions with customers. Rhosyn paused at a stall. A duel edged butterfly knife with a hardwood handle sat on display, catching her eye.

That would be perfect for Saffir! Rhosyn thought excitedly.

She reached out and picked up the beautifully crafted blade and tried futilely to open it.

The shop keeper aggressively grabbed the blade from Rhosyns hand. "It's not a toy to play with, young lady."

"Excuse me sir," Rhosyn interrupted, not bothered by the man's aggression, "But isn't your goal supposed to be to making money? Not turning your customers away?"

His mouth shut closed, speechless.

"Why don't you tell me about this blade? Then I will decide what it's worth." Rhosyn suggested, trying to help the shop keeper recover his mistake.

The man cleared his throat, noticing the crowd that had gathered behind her, "It's called a Snakefang, developed by the Seetha during the war of kings. The blades are ten inches each, crafted from the rare naganite metal. Commonly used by assassins."

"How does it work," Rhosyn asked. The shopkeeper stared at her, "Well?" She prompted.

"Rhosyn!" a familiar feminine voice called out.
