Chapter 4 - The Cruise Party

Midnight, August 5

The party had been just as we expected. Evie held on to my side like a glue, she barely blinked thinking that I'd disappear if she blinked frequently. The cruise was enormous. Chris's uncle was really elegant and cool. He was like a protective blanket for us the way he stood guarding the boat like a guardian angel. If I ever get married, I'd definitly want a man as him to protect me and keep me warm in his arms. To verbalise Evie, she said 'We'll party like hell' which we did, indeed. Though there was one thing that went wrong. A complete disaster which outraged Chris's uncle and made everyone on the ship a victim. Evie and I set on the bench of the ship bearing a glass of wine. Bartenders jiggled while making a drink. People enjoyed that as they impatiently waited for their drink to be served. Everyone on the boat kept chattering happily and having the moment of their life. Three pair of girls sat few feet away from us staring at me and Evie. One wore a brown skirt that made her breast look huge and admiring while the other two just wore tight jeans with blouses and low-cut shirts that showed their belly button. They wore the same crimson lipstick that had proven that they were a group. A group that would gossip in a party. So there they were gossiping about us and laughing in each spoken word. The one with the brown skirt and heels probably had been the one in lead because she spoke pointing at us and our dresses while the others laughed in harmony. Evie had on a red dress and it had a deep V-neck. I had on slim fit jeans and a blue turtleneck sweater even though it wasn't even cold. I just looked elusive and smart in it. We could feel an uncomfortable and intense state. ''You see those girls looking at us and whispering?'' Evie asked me, gulping down a sip of the drink. She seemed tame and angry ''Yeah. What's their deal? Do you think they like your dress?'' I told her, because it was true. Her dress was so revishing that I almost regretted not dressing up. ''Meh! I love that girls skirt though. She's pretty, but what the hell is wrong with her?'' ''I don't know. Maybe, she's one of them gossip girls'' I said, rather in an american accent from the old 90s movies. We both laughed at that. Evie stood and raised her middle finger at them and told them to leave in anger and anguish. I admired her for that. She hated such intercacies of people interrupting in our conversations. They seemed disgusted and left throwing us a look. Evie gave me a hand and we both went inside. I sniffed suspiciously and it smelt like tequila inside. I don't like the smell of tequila, so sour and strong that made my nose itch. Chris came running when he saw us. He wore a gray short-sleeved shirt and cropped jeans. He gasped and said, ''Where have you guys been?'' He asked as if he didn't mean to. ''Should I get you anything to eat or anything?'' He added asking us both, but more to Evie. We exchanged a look and nodded facing Chris. ''Okay. Follow me. I prepared something for the three of us because I'm starving'' He said, running over to a table full of food. German sausage and salad, grilled fish, roast chicken with chips, and there was italian pizza with special ingredients such as grated cheese, sliced onions, scattered butter over it, and every other ingredients required, Evie and I's faviourite. We began with the pizza then the chicken and the german sausage with salad. That's how we ate it all. I could not believe it. From across the aisle my eyes met with a guy, his blue eyes had drilled into mine in a glance until he looked away with a grin. Evie eyed me when she looked over to see him and mouthed, ''Talk to him''. I shrugged. She continued to tease me when Chris's uncle came breathing heavily and said, ''Kids, get up. Someone stole my shit. I ain't letting them get away with it...'' He continuted, almost out of breath. That's when a scarred shiver ran down my spine. Each of us on the table started to turn red and a intense state grew in that moment. ''You said you were only gonna invite trusted people. Is this how many people you trust?... Now... I want you to tell me who stole my shit!'' He grouched to Chris, more like ordering. Chris got up and took his uncle to an empty corner, immediately. They chattered intensively for a moment and then Chris turned back and hollered, "Listen up, Everybody!''. The music decreased, everyone's face blank as they looked at Chris. He looked nervous, and stuttered. ''There has been robbery in the boat. Someone stole something valuable in it and It's not mine, It's his'' He said, pointing at us uncle. Everyone glared at him and then he began, ''If you or anyone you saw or know about it. Please... I want you to step forward. Nobody will do anything to you'' Chris strode closer, trying to look everyone in the eye to show sympathy, but his eyes spoke concern and weakness. No one had come forward nor shown any sign of robbery. Chris's Uncle arranged everyone on the boat, not us, in a tight row to search them. They searched the boys. Evie and I nervously searched the girls because we had to look under their bra and their panties. Robberies are a mystery that are not very easy to solve, but It wasn't one to preferrably solve in discretion. Someone had tainted the good and serene party, well almost because soon after that it has ended and everyone went back to their cozy little homes. They said they found their stolen stuff and recovered them but not from any people in the party, no one that we knew of. Moments of overthinking on the way back home, I asked Evie ''What was it that got stolen? Did you ask Chris about it?'' She turned away from me focusing on the driveway. Suddenly she spoke, ''I left them alone. Chris was really scarred and he couldn't talk much. He said he'd see me tomorrow but I don't think he'd ever tell me'' Evie must have felt really irresponsible and blamed because it had been her idea to oragnize the party on the boat, nonetheless, Chris uncle's boat. ''It could have been drugs or weapons...But why would he have weapons?... Okay.. Yeah, It were drugs. Didn't you say his uncle retired from his old job and gave divorce to his three-children wife and went to live alone. I mean, what could possibly a retired man do to make money other than drug smuggling. Period!'' I was almost out of breath, I had freaked about the whole thing. Evie listened carefully and nodded. She shook her head up and down for few minutes until she stopped. At first i thought, She was dancing to the slow music but then she spoke, 'Just...Just don't tell anyone please. Chris would be...Uh. Just. Everything's going to be fine. It's okay. alright.'' She gave me a convincing look to answer her, but I didn't. We both went home and Evie had to stay at my house because she said it was too dark. But truthfully, She was really scarred and kept biting her lips which she does when she is nervous or is panicking. To be honest, I was scarred too but it didn't really matter anymore. It just didn't seem that big of a deal. So at that thought and being tired from all of the drama, We slept safe and sound impossibly to wake up early in the morning.
