Mary jumped up "Ah! Word does seem to get around fast." She turned to me, "They must be here to see you, please come downstairs and greet them."
We walked back down to the foyer where they seemed to be waiting for me. When I turned around, the others were gone, "They must be getting ready or something" I thought to myself.
As I was walking down the staircase I thought to myself, "I wonder who these people are and what they are doing here." There were two people standing there, one was a girl and the other one was a guy. The girl was quite thin while the guy looked like a steroid abuser. They were both carrying something with them, the girl was carrying a large bag and the guy was holding what seemed to be an antique weapon.
Mary whispered to me, "Please do try to make a good first impression, these people are quite high up in the afterlife power rankings.
The guy looked up at me on the stairs, "You must be the new guy, how are you handling this new environment?"
I walked over and shook his hand, "It's pretty hard getting used to this, but everything is going quite smoothly with my transition. Also, I am Lee, nice to meet you."
The man smiled and responded with, "Ah, my name is Var, the God of war."
I thought my jaw was going to hit the floor when I heard that he was a god.
Then the girl began to speak, "I am Uke, the Goddess of the harvest."
"Huh? Gods? Why would being such as yourself come to visit me?" I asked with a weak tone in my voice.
They looked at each other with confusion, then Uke looked at me and asked, "Why do you seem so surprised that Gods are visiting other Gods?"
"Visiting other Gods? There are no gods here other than yourself. Unless..." I trailed off. I turned to Mary, "Mary, am I a God?
Mary smiled with pride, "Yes, of course, you are a God, you were chosen by the Almighty after all. Only Gods will ever speak to him."
Var laughed, "Haha! This must be even more of a shock to him then the whole reincarnation thing. Would we be able to sit somewhere, I think he needs to rest before he passes out, and we also need to talk to Lee about some important information."
We went back to the living room where we were just a few minutes ago. I sat down with Mary standing behind me, and Var and Uke sitting on the other couch.
Uke handed me something that seemed to look like chocolate and she took out a cup and a tea flask, "Here, I know I shouldn't give this to you now but please do take these. The chocolate and mint tea should help relieve some of the stress, it certainly worked for me."
Var muttered, "Of course it did you glutton."
Uke turned to Var, gave him a dirty look and clicked her tongue, then began speaking to me. "Is it alright for us to begin talking?"
I nodded my head, even though this new information completely blew my mind, I wanted to know what they came here for and I also did not want to waste any more of their time.
Uke began, "You should already know your job and what you have to do, so we can skip that. You probably know that completing jobs gainst your power, but it's not just the completion of the job that increases your power in the afterlife, it's the number of people that pray to you in the mortal realm that increases your power. Also, the difficulty of the job corresponds to how much power you will gain after completing the job."
Var jumped in, "Also there is a city where all the gods go to hang out. It's a good location to meet other Gods and you can buy stuff there. I wish I could though, I already spend all my money on the new merch for that show."
Uke nudged him with her elbow, "Stop embarrassing yourself, do you really want this to be his first impression of you?"
Lee looked at them with joyous eyes, "No it's fine, its great to see that Gods have personalities of their own, I always thought that Gods were just beings that state law with no emotion. But in reality, you are nothing like that. I find it significant that my expectations were wrong, but not in a bad way."
Var's face beamed with delight, "Its good to see that you are happy Lee, I did not know what kind of person you were going to end up as, but it is truly a blessing that you are such a nice guy. You accept people for who they are don't you? No need to answer that, sorry."
Uke interjected our off-topic conversation, "Just so you know the gods who have not at least completed one job are not allowed into the city. So if you do want to go there, it would be in your best interest to begin your job as soon as possible."
Uke stood up, "Well now that we are done telling you the basics of this world, we would like to offer you presents." Uke handed me the bag she was carrying, "Here, these are exotic fruits that I grew in my garden. I hope they are to your liking."
I bowed and happily accepted the present, "Thank you, I will make sure nothing of this goes to waste."
Next Var handed me an old musket with a bayonet wrapped in cloth, "This is one of the guns that I used during my time as a general in the Great Wars. Please take this as a token of my friendship, I hope we get along in the future."
Again I happily received the present, "Thank you for allowing me to take one of the guns from your past. Also, I hope we do get along in the future."
We lead them out of the mansion and to the platform out front, "Until we meet again Lee." They both said.
"Yes, until we meet again" I answered.
Then they disappeared, presumably to their own mansions.
