Chapter 13 - Legend 2: The Realm

Logbook 29: Page 120. Realm # 110983

Day 1: In all my travels this has to be the strangest realm I've come across. While I've seen realms and dimensions with little life in it, that's always been a constant, that there's life. But this one seems completely devoid of it, though it doesn't seem that it was always that way. There are these black trees that looked as if they've all been scorched and withered beyond repair, though no animals or sentient life.

Day 15: After setting up a waypoint by my gate I set out for two weeks in search of something or someone but so far nothing. This place is filled with black ashy trees that don't seem scientifically possible as this entire region appears to be rocky mountainous terrain, not a speck of grass, or even remnants of grass anywhere.

Day 20: After spending another 5 days here I've found this rock incline and have set up a home base for now. I've noticed a few more things, At first, I thought this place was lifeless but it appears I was wrong, after about 3 weeks here the first sign of meteorological activity started, a large wall of fog swept into the area during the night and left when the sun rose.

day 25: I'll be attempting to write a log every 5 days now maybe every other day but I've found the first sign of life here, and sentient as well! I think. It's humanoid but appears to be injured, either that or life here evolved without the need of arms or muscle mass apparently this guy looks like he's starved himself for years. I'll try the first contact next morning as the mist is returning.

Day 30: The first contact failed as when the mist dissipated the being was gone, but now that it's gone I feel uneasy not knowing where it is. But what's weirder is the mist. The mist acts weird, it's unlike any weather pattern I've ever seen, the mist comes with the sun falling and dissipates with the morning, but even weirder is that it appears to be lasting longer, and when I'm not in my shelter the mist feels tingly almost as if it's feeling me like it's alive. I've already spent a month here I think It's time to go back to the waypoint I have other Realms to explore.

Day: 35: I reached where my waypoint was set about an hour ago, but this area doesn't look familiar at all, the gate I set up is gone and the mist is already out even though it was midday when I reached the waypoint. I can barely see the trees around here... wait the trees are moving! those aren't trees they're hands!

Day 50: I had a quick run-in with another lifeform here 2 weeks ago, and I've elected to call the creatures here insanities. Since they rushed me out of the area where my waypoint is I've been hiding and surviving off of the bark of those black trees, no wonder they're all malnourished this is pretty much the only food here. The "Shades" as I call them are humanoid figures with pitch-black skin and seemingly no muscle mass, despite this their hits are powerful and fast, at least for the small ones. Although they're not as big as the larger variants I've called them Stationary Shades as they don't seem to move and only eat from one of three trees which they seem to be very protective of, although they don't attack unless you touch the aforementioned trees. There seem to be up to 3 more variants than the stationary shades, and it appears there's a hierarchy comparing the Shades and the Insanities. There's the Stalker Shade, pretty self-explanatory they hunt you down but they rely on their sharp claws to actually kill but they're small with long arms so if you break on they're useless. And there's the Sentinel Shade which seems like a main fighter of the Shade species, it has bark-like segments of natural armor on its body save for the joints and the back. They're slow and can take a hit but when they attack they open the faceplates to try and intimidate or scare you and then, they're weak as one simple arrow or bullet could kill them. Then there's a queen and a King I think as I found a nest that the Shades were coming out of but I didn't venture in. I'll try to do some research on the Insanities next.

Day 68: After taking some time from writing and doing a lot of research I've discovered two things that anyone reading this would find both concerning and helpful. One there only seems to be two kinds of Insanities and they don't appear to reproduce. And two I've found an exit or should I say exits. I'll start with the first thing, The first insanity or the Lullaby had me worried at first because it seemed that they affected brainwaves and could control the mist which had me worried about venturing out at night, but I've discovered that they only affect the senses of your brain to attempt to disorient you, but they don't attack you only stand there and mess with your senses, and it appears that they don't control the mist which is concerning as the next creature must be the one doing so. Let me start with the mist, it appears to be a byproduct of the other variant of insanity, not unlike someone passing gas or belching after a meal, the mist follows them and seems to be controlled by them until it gets heated too much and dissipates. It also sticks to warmth and warm objects including people, and as for the reason it seems to be feeling you is because it is, it appears to be sentient enough to be able to detect you and find you though it does no harm, is what I originally thought, but I've found out that when it finds you and confirms your presence (by touching you) it calls out to the other type of Insanity, The Wandering Insanity, these insanities come in all shapes but one thing is always the same, their size. The Wandering insanity unlike its smaller "cousin" the Lullaby, which is approx. 1.8m tall. The Wandering Insanity is upwards of 30-45m and the largest one I confirmed was approx. 78m tall. and the mist that surrounded it almost made it impossible to see, The Wanderers, for short, are carnivorous and eat other Wanderers and the shades by seeking the nests and reaching in. They're humanoid in shape usually with large out of proportion body parts or even just missing some, and they even have extra like "Handy" one who had 5 arms and 3 legs. They also seem to hunt me, or humans as I've found ruins that look oddly modernistic like Electric age Human civilization but abandoned and destroyed for centuries. Though these discoveries haven't come without consequences, My face now has a large wound on it from a Stalker, and I'm certain I'll have to amputate my arm after a Sentinel rammed into it and tore off a part of my hand.

As for the exits I've found that in every 5 squared miles there's a stone doorway, usually tucked into a wall or even as a trapdoor on the ground, each doorway seems to open to a different universe, realm, or dimension. As such I've elected to call this realm Killer's Domain or the Land of All as the creatures here were designed to kill anything and everything and the land contains doorways to all. I'll be spending my remaining days here finding a doorway leading to my Universe then I'll be giving this book to the Association. I think I deserve a long vacation after that, I need to tend to my wounds.
