Chapter 16 - Legend 4-1: The Conflicts

Long ago when humans still roamed this land two very different races collided. The dark elves, attuned to the underground and darkness made their first above-ground settlement, Delve. Delve was a very ambitious city at first just because it was predominantly Dark elves did not mean that it was only customized for their race, it was created to house all races and be a point on the map for people to do business with all the underground dark elf colonies. But with all the success the city had brought it did not come without drawbacks, the dark elves are attuned to darkness so the city was primarily built with a roof over the most important parts as such many races which relied on the sunlight were not able to experience it. There was one more drawback though, due to the Dark elves being an underground race they had little to no land claims above-ground so they had built upon windborne lands. The windborne much like the dark elves are a variant of elf but attuned to the light and the sky naturally being seen flying around with their grandiose wings wearing light armor with intricate designs.

In nature and physicality, the two races were complete opposites and if that didn't cause issues the land used for Delve definitely did. First, it was simple border disputes then it came to small fights within the city and the outskirts of it, it wasn't until the issue started to become international that the conflict was realized by other countries . After 5 years of back and forth between the two and their supporters, a declaration of war was sent to the Dark Elf King of Delve, Myrias Tablis. His son Rune Tablis started a movement for an army and militia recruitments and within 2 months they had 3,000 soldiers trained and ready for battle. The Windborne were masters of the spear while the Dark Elves were very proficient in dual blades they truly had the disadvantage here but that didn't stop them. Battles raged for years on end and the Dark Elves had miraculously pushed the Windborne halfway back to their capital of Virhel. Then the two generals met. Rune and Gracia met in the center of the awaiting battlefield and then the talks started.

While the common soldiers stood back the generals talked and after 5 painstaking minutes of waiting the two nodded before sheathing their weapons.

"Men sheathe your weapons we're going to Virhel!" Rune Commanded much to the surprise of his armies, but amidst the complaints and confusion many sighs of relief broke through. "Well now Garcia, shall you escort us?" He inquired.

"I suppose follow me General Rune." She bowed slightly before turning and heading towards her troops the platoon of Dark elves following not far behind.

After a few days of travelling the two generals had spent enough time together that any suspicion of betrayal had left. the two armies were even starting to talk amongst themselves as comrades over being enemies. the scarlet skies shone bright with the setting sun as both races said their farewells and went to their camps readying for the coming morning when they would reach the capital city.

As the sun set on the outstretched horizon the two moons shone in the night-sky the many stars beyond them sparkling like spirits in the void. The two generals stood there gazing upon their races watching as all the hostility from three nights back had vanished.

"It's wonderous isn't it?" The sudden words startled the windborne at first but she assumed he was talking about the sky,

"I've seen it once I've seen it a thousand times." she replied.

"Not the night-sky Garcia, The people below us." She looked up in surprise as he opened his mouth to continue, "In three days these two armies ready to tear each other throats out are singing and guzzling alcohol as if they've been friends since childhood meeting again," he laughed softly, "It truly is beautiful, peace I mean." he looked her dead in the eyes, she could tell he was telling the truth.

She started to laugh loudly the sound echoing across the open plain, "Out of all the things I readied myself for I was not expecting a sympathetic Dark elf," she spoke interrupted by her simply chuckling at the out of character words spewing from the other commander. "But I see what you mean, I understand my father's decision for starting conflict with the Drow kingdom, but I truly did wish it would end with laughs and a scene like this." She smiled softly, "And yes peace truly is beautiful."

That night everyone slept soundly, the two generals keeping their conversation going late into the night before turning in not long after high-moon.
