Chereads / Bloodshed; The District / Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

I still couldn't believe it.

It happened.

Stef is badly injured and she might turn into one of the creatures in a matter of hours.

What's even scarier is that were inside my car, and we still have another 2-hour drive to get back home.

Stef kept on letting out painful groans as she kept pouring alcohol on to her wounds, although blood stopped gushing out of it. I think she's going to be okay... for now.

"Are you okay?" I asked.

"That's the tenth time you asked me that question. I'm okay!" Stef groaned.

I couldn't help it.

"We're almost there Stef. Hang on."

45 minutes later, we've arrived at our hometown.

"A lot has changed in here..." Stef murmured. The billboards multiplied along the highway, it used to be filled with trees as well but it was exchanged with hundreds of buildings. Home felt like-

"Fleur! Look!" She pointed something in front of us.

I saw a tall figure, its limbs were five times longer than ours.

"What the f*ck is that?!" I whispered.

"No idea. Can you just drive around it?"

"I'll try." I slowly drove and passed by the side of it, just a few meters away.

We were successful, but when Stef looked back, it was gone.

I stopped.

"What?!" I looked back to check, it was really gone.

I returned my pace back on to the road when the tall figure was directly staring at me through the window, its face is distorted, its eyes are black and bleeding and its jaw is a whack.

I screamed and stepped on the gas, attempting to run over the creature.

It jumped over our car and smashed the roof with his hands, his hands grew spikes on it as it gave an impact on our roof.

"Mace for hands? Jesus- what kind of creatures are they?!"

I swivelled the car, trying to lose the creature on our roof. Eventually it did.

Stef stood up and peaked through the hole, it was big enough for her to fit.

"I have a gun and I am not afraid to use it!" she grabbed her gun and started to shoot.

"Right in the head!" she said. She lets out a painful groan as she sat back down.

"You just shot him with you having a wound on your arm? Unbelievable." I said. She lets out a laugh.

Minutes have passed, Stef poked my arm. "I think we're here. It's too dark to see but I recognized that building over there." She said.

"I'll go check. You better rest. Don't waste any more bullets, your father might scold you."

"Yeah yeah, whatever." She sterned.

I hopped out of my car and inspected the area.

We really are home.

I rushed to my house and knocked 5 times.

"Ma?"

There was no response.

I knocked again and finally decided to to check the doorknob.

It was unlocked.

I was about to step in when I remembered Stef. When I stepped back to get Stef, there was a loud growl behind the door. I ran back to the car, and it chased me.

I was able to swing my metal pole and hit it by his face. It was knocked out.

But I still have to be extra careful.

Stef jumped out of the car and ran towards me.

"What happened? How'd that creature got inside?!" Stef inspected me if I was okay.

"I don't know. I haven't gotten inside. I was thinking, maybe we should go check it out together. I can't leave you here." I said.

We walked inside the house together.

Everything seemed to be at place.

I checked upstairs to look for Mama and the others. None. My old room, none. And still empty.

I went straight to the kitchen and saw Stef opened the fridge.

"Can I have this milk?" She asked and without hesitation, dunked it down.

"No one is here." I said.

"Well yeah, the door is unlocked and probably at my house too. Oh yeah I saw this on the kitchen counter." She handed me a note.

"EMA? The military?" I asked.

"Mind reading it out loud for me?" Stef's eyes batted and drank water.

"The family, Buenavista, has been contained and is now being sent to the military evacuation center."

"They're gonna swab 'em up to see if they're infected and then keep 'em evacuated? Sh*t!" Stef said.

"I just hope my family's safe there." I said.

Then there was a loud thump upstairs.
