Chereads / My Demon Lord Master / Chapter 3 - Alone

Chapter 3 - Alone

The boy once more looked around before deciding to head home.

Reaching his home, Yami could see that the boy came from a rather rich family. The home was three stories with a large fountain in the front and a large yard in front of and behind the house.

"Welcome home, young master Artemis" a tall muscular, bald man in a butler outfit greeted the kid.

"Thanks Reginald" the kid said as he walked past the tall man.

The kid walked down the long hallways of the fancy house. Paintings of his family decorated the walls. Their golden frames emitting a reflection of their surroundings. Finally, he arrived to his room.

A large room with a bed, draws, and a desk was now visible. Sword displays on the wall was the only unique feature of the room.

"Another day, another beating. One day I'll show them who the strongest is."

Yami listened to Artemis speak to himself. From what he has learned so far, Artemis was the son of wealthy parents. He was bullied because he was weak and how low magical affinity. Although being put into the body of a rich human was better than that of a poor for several reasons, the body itself seemed weak.

A strange desire to sleep overcame Yami...The need to sleep overwhelmed Yami...

He was able to go days without being affected by not sleeping, but suddenly he was craving it.

Was the kid's own desire for sleep controlling his own? If the kid fell asleep, he wouldn't be able to see anything nor would he be able to hear anything. His mind was completely connected to the kids.

As the body drifted into a deep sleep, Yami found himself close behind.

The next morning as Artemis awoke, Yami was able to see and hear again. After getting dressed and heading down to breakfast, Artemis sat at a table with his parents. His mother cooked a large breakfast to celebrate the new journey in Artemis' life.

He would be heading to The Magic Academy where he would spend the next two years. Slowly consuming the meal before him, Artemis did not talk much with his parents.

After finishing his meal, he bid his farewell. Reginald, the butler from last night escorted his young master to a horse drawn carriage. The carriage which would carry Artemis to his new home for the next two years.

It was not a long journey. The school was located at the edge of the kingdom's capital city which Artemis lived in.

Arriving at a large metal fence, the carriage was granted access to enter. Down a smooth road towards a large building that rivaled even the King's castle itself. A large open field surrounded the school in every direction.

Many were walking around the building and some had already formed groups. Artemis said his farewells to Reginald who looked sad to see him go. A look that even his own father did not give him.

The students had already received their IDs in the mail and did not have to go through an unnecessary wait to receive their IDs.

The first day would be for magic testing. Afterwards, students could venture around the school to learn the layout. There were rooms for practicing magic, sparring, and even a huge library. The yard were open with benches and tables.

Classes would begin on the second day.

Artemis kept his head down, making sure to not make eye contact with any of the other students.

The students had about an hour before the testing would commence. Artemis kept to himself as a way to avoid confrontation. He never had friends and frankly didn't believe in true friends. He was often bullied because of his lack of magic.

Humans would usually gain their magical abilities at the age of five. However, Artemis was unable to use any magic. Instead, he asked Reginald to train him in martial arts. Reginald was a former knight and he spent most of his childhood learning from him.

After finding his dorm room, Artemis settled in. He did not bring much with him but a bunch of clothes, and various books.

There was many students, and therefore many had to share a dorm. Artemis however, was one of the students with their own room as a result of his family origins.

His father was a very important man. The head mage of the kingdom's army.

Artemis and his father did not get along due to his low magical abilities. His father hoped he would be his follow in his footsteps, but that was obviously not possible now. He drifted into a nap as he laid on his bed.

"Mandatory test for year one students has begun. All year ones have 10 minutes to arrive at the back of the building." said a female voice within his head.

Artemis jumped out of his bed. "What was that? Telekinesis?" He left the room and hurried down the hall. "I heard a voice yesterday too, was that telekinesis as well?"

As he arrived behind the school, a small yard was now visible. Many students were lined up as they were instructed to. Multiple teachers walked around the area giving commands. to the students.

In front of the lines, were old men dressed in mage outfits of all colors and sizes.

"The testing will now begin, good luck to all students. More instructions will be given upon entering the test site." said the female voice using telekinesis once more.

The men in front of the lines using their magical abilities open a portal. Portals often showed the destination. It was like a large door.

The students began to march into the portals as their test was finally beginning.

An empty plain of grass spread far and wide. In the distance, a large mountain could be seen.

The telekinesis user once again rang within the students head. "Each student will take a turn to be tested by the teacher in charge of their line. You will be tested for magic aptitude. The higher your aptitude, the higher your rank."

"Discrimination is not allowed at this school, nor is bullying. We must help and look out for each other. Even those with the lowest aptitude can train to become stronger. Each student at the start of their respective line, please step forward."

As the student in front of each line took a step, an orb appeared before them.

"Place your hand on the orb. It will reveal your current rank. Your rank will appear on your ID as well." said an old man.

The students placed their hands on the orb which glowed a faint light, a bright light or something in between. It was common to get a light between faint and bright. Every now and then, a student would get a very bright light meaning they were starting at 5. Some would get a faint, placing them at the weakest rank of 1 star.

Finally, Artemis was next.

"Step forward" the old man in charge of his line commanded.

Placing his hand on the orb, Artemis was not shocked by the reveal. He already knew what the outcome would be. Although not the brightest, it was not to weakest light possible.

"Rank 2, next." the old man said not looking at Artemis.

Pulling out his ID card, the empty space near his name had already been filled in. "Rank Two" it read.

The school had classes for martial arts but did not test it as magic was the main focus. A strong factor of the daily lives of all.

Artemis returned to his dorm where he spent the rest of the day besides a trip or two to the cafeteria.
