The second day had finally started. Artemis sat in class where the lessons mainly focused around magic, beast, and demons. The first day of classes was mainly used for students to learn about each other and the lessons they will be learning.
Artemis sat at the back of the class, surrounded by other students who avoided speaking to him. It was not because of his low rank since the school was against discrimination but rather because of his lifeless eyes.
Throughout the class, he wore the same lifeless expression. Almost like he did not want to be there, which he didn't. He was forced to attend due to his father's wishes. Even though his father believed he was a "disappointment" he still had hope Artemis could gain more power.
The students talked to each other and occasionally their homeroom teacher as well. Artemis kept to himself, and noticed other students who did the same.
The bell rang signaling the end of class. Students would then arrive to the cafeteria where they would eat and relax before continuing to their next class. As of the first day, the students did not have to practice magic or martial arts. Those classes would come at a later date.
After all classes ended for the day, Artemis planned to return to his dorm. Within the hall to his dorm, a group of students were standing around laughing. He chose to ignore them and continued to his room.
He was waiting for advanced classes to begin so he could practice magic and martial arts. As of right now, he would only keep to himself. He spent his alone time reading.
The next day, the class learned about the history of magic. Where and when it was first discovered, who discovered it, and what it was used for.
The lesson was intriguing to many but to someone like Artemis who had already learned this, it was rather boring. A desire to sleep swallowed him whole as his eyes closed at his desk.
"Young man. Young man. Wake up." the annoyed teacher yelled. She was only in her thirties but was already beginning to wrinkle.
Artemis sprung up to the call of the teacher. The other students hid their laughs and smirks as they watched their lazy classmate wake up.
"You like to sleep in class huh?" the teacher asked. Artemis did not reply.
"Since you would rather sleep, you should already know how magic is used right?"
Artemis was able to easily reply. "Magic comes from your energy and life force. The more energy you have, the more magic you can use. Likewise, if you push yourself to much when using magic, you can drain your life force which leads to death. No one knows exactly how it started though."
The teacher was shocked but not mad. He was able to provide an answer even thought the lesson had not covered this topic yet. The other students were also shocked even those that knew the answer as well.
Continuing with the class, Artemis tried his best to not fall asleep again. After the bell, he ate in the cafeteria and then headed to his next class where he gave his full attention.
"None of this is new to me. I just want to learn more martial arts and attempt to learn magic."
Even with a low aptitude, it was still possible to learn magic. Majority of every day events depended on magic, and being able to use it opened up many opportunities.
A part of Artemis felt that increasing his magical aptitude would allow his father to finally treat him like his son. Another part of Artemis felt that not reconnecting with his father would be the best.
His scheduled was as followed. Uses of magic (two hours), lunch (one hour), beast knowledge (one hour), learning about demons (one hour). Magic practice, and martial arts would later be added to the schedule.
Within the beast knowledge class, Artemis learned about different tiers of beast and how to verify which beast is which tier. This class actually interested him, and he looked forward to further lessons.
The teacher was another female but this one seemed much nicer than the last. Her blue eyes dazzled the students who were more focused on her than the lesson. Her blonde hair currently tied as a ponytail to avoid blocking her facial features.
The final class of the day was about the human's neighbors, the demons. This was another class that interested Artemis who knew little to nothing about the demons.
His only prior knowledge of demons were the fact that they looked like humans but had a different type of energy. One that seemed malicious even if they were not evil. The knowledge of a peace treaty also came to mind when thinking about demons. The peace treaty created by the first Demon Lord Yami.
In this class, the teacher was an old, bald man. He had claimed to be a former knight known as William Eques. A knight that patrolled the borders of the human territory, stopping demons that tried to cross without permission.
"For our first lesson, we will start at the very beginning of what we humans have learned about the demons. The demons were originally enemy states that were brought together by the strongest demon known to their kind. Demon Lord Yami. He was the strongest demon to ever live and had many amazing accomplishments." the teacher stated as he begun his lesson.
"Why do we learn about the demons?" asked a girl on the other side of the class.
"They are our neighbors and we hope to unite as one kingdom one day. It's only fair that we learn about our future friends." the bald man replied with a smile on his face.
The lesson went on about demon lord Yami and how he united the demon states. The final bell rang allowing the students to roam the school as they pleased until night when all students had to return to their dorm.
Hoping to check out the gym before heading to his room, Artemis headed towards the opposite direction than his usual route.
The gym was only about a five minute walk from his current class. It was a large room filled with weights, dummies, and more.
Upon arrival, Artemis noticed that the gym was rather empty. Most citizens trained their magic more than their actual bodies. Those with a lower aptitude focused on body and combat training.
A group of about four students were talking inside.
Ignoring their loud laughs, Artemis walked over to a dummy. Throwing a combo of strikes, a sound similar to that of a gunshot could be heard. Strike after strike made contact with the dummy.
"Hey kid." a voice from behind sounded as a hand grabbed Artemis by the shoulder.
Without thinking, Artemis grabbed the arm and twisted it. As he turned, he noticed that the arm belonged to one of the four from earlier.
The boy connected to the arm was on the skinnier side and was taller than Artemis. He had green slick back hair and green eyes.
"I came over to tell you that you were to damn loud, but now I guess I'll kick your ass. You think you're tough huh?" the boy said as he pulled his arm away.
"I challenge you to a fight, I mean a duel." he added.
"A duel?" Artemis asked puzzled.
"A duel was a one on one fight that students could agree on to settle their problems. A teacher must first approve the duel and then be it's referee." the boy answered.
The duel system was not yet explained to the first years as their training classes had yet to begin.
"Are you scared? You twisted my arm when I had my guard down, so you must know that in a real fight, i'd kick your ass." the boy mocked as his friends began to laugh.
"I accept. When and where?" Artemis replied with no emotions in his face. Anger nor sadness could be seen as his lifeless eyes stared at the group before him.
"Meet us here tomorrow. I'll bring a teacher to be the ref." the boy said as he and his group left the gym.
As the group was no longer in sight, Artemis began to tremble. He agreed to a fight that he would most likely lose.
