It was the day of the duel.
Classes for the day were over and Artemis began his walk to the gym. He had agreed to a duel in which he was in no ways prepared for.
Throughout the day, he thought about ways to avoid the duel but in the end chose to maintain his honor. He would fight and lose with his pride intact.
Arriving to the gym, many others were already inside. Just yesterday the gym was basically empty. However, it was nearly full today.
"I brought some friends to watch" said the green haired boy who had challenged him just yesterday. He wore a tight green shirt and black pants.
"Get ready for your duel" said a female voice from behind.
Entering through the doorway was a lady with silky white hair and blue eyes. She wore a blue dress with white heels and gloves.
"This is our referee, and magic teacher of the second years, Ms. Serene." the boy added.
"How will the duel work? We are in this crowded gym." Artemis asked as he looked around.
"Stage Set" said Ms. Serene with a smile as a glowing light filled the room.
After opening his eyes which he closed as a result of the light, Artemis noticed that he was no longer in the gym. Instead all of the students and the teacher were now standing within a large area. They were currently standing on a stage surrounded by stands.
"All spectators head to the stands. You two go to the opposite ends of the stage and wait for my signal." the teacher commanded.
As the other students headed for the stands, Artemis and the green haired boy walked to separate ends of the stone stage.
A few minutes went passed and everything was ready.
"This is your first time since your a first year so I will explain the rules to you." the teacher said as she stared at Artemis.
"All duels must be overseen by a teacher or trained staff member. Duels will take place in set stages like this or in tournaments. Both competitors must accept the duel and will be unable to leave before the match is over. To win, your opponent must surrender or be rendered unable to continue. Are you two ready?"
"Yes" the green haired boy shouted with a smile.
"Yes" replied Artemis who was still thinking about everything he heard.
"Begin" the teacher yelled as the spectators began to scream and cheer.
Artemis did not move from his position. He was not aware of his opponent's capabilities. Unlike him, the opponent was most likely able to use magic attacks.
Noticing his opponent frozen in place, the green haired boy decided to take the first move. Placing his hands on the floor, stones from the stage floor began to rise into the air. With a swing of his arms, the stones shot towards Artemis.
Dodging the stones, Artemis felt confident in his speed. Unable to use magic attacks, his only chance to win was to close the range and use martial arts.
Moving left and right while charging forward, Artemis barely dodged the stones. More and more were shot towards him barely grazing his clothes.
Finally closing the distance, Artemis prepared to throw a right hook at his opponent. However, before his strike could make contact, a large wall appeared between the two.
The wall stood taller than Artemis himself who quickly jumped backwards out of shock.
Stones began to shoot from the wall which shrunk overtime as it's content was used as projectiles.
Once again, Artemis moved from right to left and back as he dodged the stones. "How do I get close enough to end this?" he wondered.
The spectators began to cheer louder as the one sided duel continued. He could not see it but behind the wall was the green haired boy with a smile.
Charging forth, Artemis had no other choice but to risk taking hits in order to get close.
"Just surrender" yelled the green haired boy as his hail of strikes began to speed up. With the increase in speed, more stones were being sent towards his opponent. The stone projectiles were smaller as a way to increase available stone but just as dangerous.
Cuts appeared on the skin of Artemis who continued forward. Finally closing the distance, he once again prepared a punch. Then, just like last time, a stone wall grew between the two.
It was the same tactic again, and Artemis knew he had no chance to win. "I surrender" he yelled as he fell to his knees.
"The duel is over. The winner is Griffin." the teacher yelled loud enough for all spectators to hear.
The green haired boy began to celebrate. Spectators arrived on stage and his friends began to celebrate with him.
Checking his injuries, the teacher began to quickly heal the Artemis.
"Return Point" the teacher said as a bright light filled the area similar to last time. The group was now back in the gym.
"Hey kid, why didn't you use any magic?" Ms. Serene asked with a puzzled look on her face. Behind her were the students who wondered the same thing.
"I can't use magic." Artemis replied as he left the gym. Slowly, he headed back to his dorm.
There was one more spectator to this fight that no one knew about.
Yami watched on as his host tried his best to win without magic. However, he was not happy about the lost. This was his body now too and that meant that his body just lost a fight.
"Maybe I can teach the kid how to access my powers?". Yami thought to himself as he wondered how exactly he could increase the power of the child.
He had many abilities, more than someone with an advanced attention span could count to in one sitting. Most could be taught to other demons but never was a human even taught about when mentioning the passing down of these skills.
If the human who controlled the body lost a fight and became injured or lost his life, Yami would also be affected. He had to train this human and the best plan he could come up with was to reveal himself.
"How do I start? Do I just say hi? Do I greet myself as the first demon lord?"
As an introduction appeared within his mind, Yami was ready to greet his human host.
