"Well, that could have been smoother," I said as my feet changed back to human after changing to gargoyle to prevent any broken bones. "Now I need to tell the others, but I need to check on Zena." I made my way to hail a taxi to get me to the hospital. When I did, I observed the security cameras as I walked to the service desk.
Once I made my way there, a senior woman in scrubs was behind the desk. "Excuse me, miss. I brought in a woman by the name of Zena Buckford. She was in room 327 as of yesterday. Is she still here?" The woman looked at the computer and told me she would leave soon and that she allowed me to go up there.
When I made my way to the closed door that separated the room from the hallway, I knocked and waited a few seconds. After those seconds were over the door opened and Zena stepped to the side as I entered the room. "Looks like you're about to leave. I came to see how you're doing." I told her, leaning against the wall.
She nodded her head as her black hair shook with the motion as she tied her last shoe. After a few moments of tranquility, a nurse came into the room with a wheelchair.
The nurse helped Zena into it as she nodded her head. I followed her, acting like her friend. Once we were in an elevator, I opened the app Uber on my smartphone and asked for a car to pick us up.
Upon being greeted by the scorching air of the outside world, I saw a gray Volkswagen pulled up beside us. As we got near the car, the nurse helped Zena to the back seat of the right side as I took the passenger seat next to the driver.
I asked the driver to take us to the church outside of the city. After a thirty-minute drive from the hospital, we stepped out of the vehicle after I paid the lady.
Passing through the doors of the church, we saw Father Romero practicing his sermon. After waiting patiently for him to finish, he walked to us near the back row of pews. "Kyle, Zena, how are you?" the speaker of God asked us as he sat by us.
I gave the priest a thumbs up as Zena asked him how he was doing since the attack. He showed us that there was a sling with his left arm in it. It looked like someone did it professionally besides the fact that it was a torn bedsheet.
After the three of us told the events that went on a few days ago, he told us to go to the basement where the gargoyles were training. "When did we get a basement? I don't remember seeing an entrance to one since I moved here from Tyler." I asked as Romero instructed me to remove the pulpit and for Zena to roll the maroon carpet back.
After carefully placing the pulpit on the floor that held the carpet in place, I joined with the two and discovered a small hole no bigger and thicker than a few centimeters. After looking at the dent in the floor for a few seconds, I instinctively removed my talisman from my neck and carefully placed it in. As I did, the ground hummed and shook.
Looking up, I expected for the attic to cave in, however as the shaking and noise stopped, a midnight blue light from the sapphire emerged and shot out on the left and right side. The light carved its way into the cement, leaving a sky blue tail in its wake.
After stopping for a second, the two turned towards the large, slightly dusted oriented window, shining light where the pulpit stands typically. Going towards the window, the beams of light stopped a few yards from where the corners were. Turning once more, the rays went towards each other until they collided; when they met, the two joined as one, and shot down, aligned with the amulet. When the dark blue touched the stone, the light blue tails retracted back into the gem.
I glanced at Father Romero, who motioned me to pick it up. After doing so, the sides of the newly cracked floor slid open to reveal a series of stairs lit by the sun peeking through the window. "Well… ladies first." Zena said as we took our phones and used the flashlight application.
