Chapter 3 - The Meat of the Matter

Jason for some reason felt weirdly attracted to the book in question. He didn't know why but his heart was suddenly racing. He reached for the book blowing off a small layer of dust. "Hmm I guess that this hasn't had many readers recently" he thought to himself. Holding it up to the light he could see that it was black with fancy silver lettering. There was a snarling wolf on the front with red eyes. It was a massive tome with small words however as Jason started reading he became very engrossed in the book. He felt almost like he was transported to a time when werewolves were real and even though they were rare they were common knowledge.

When villagers would arm themselves with silver and wolfsbane and hide inside their homes at night. However the book went on to explain how werewolves were usually just very big wolves that had first been attacked by humans leading to humans being killed. Furthermore the book went on to tell the real origin of the werewolves. It was explained that at first werewolves were common however they were quite different from the normal myths associated with them. Werewolves at first just seemed like really strong humans. They were fast, strong, and highly intelligent. When they used their full power their eyes would glow white and blue. Their teeth seemed normal except that some of them would have canines like a wolf. Their power was enormous however most did not meddle in human affairs. Their strength and power was hard to gather where its origin was based but it always seemed more powerful when the moon was full. But as time went on and humans mated with the werewolves and created the first myth of the werewolves. Mutated humans combined with the strength and speed of a wolf. Those that were born from these bloodlines tended to be hairier and very aggressive leading to the myth of the werewolf. However there were bloodlines that tended to be more on the pure bloodline of the Lycans. Those that rarely if ever mated with humans. Being as those that had pure Lycan blood running through are almost immortal. They are immune to disease, have very fast regeneration and can keep fighting with horrendous injuries. In fact throughout history their descendants are seen such as the berserker. But the ones that kept their bloodlines mostly pure were five families. The Mavres, the Soulvers, the Kun-Kul, the Vantiteris and the last and most mysterious the Savitir. In the middle ages due to the many mutants abounding in the wilderness the families were targeted and sought after for their power. Many members of all families were killed causing them to hide even further in the wilderness. With many members of all the five families being killed they began to look for each other as a way of protection to keep their kind intact. However the Savitir who were never great in number never came forth and so were presumed as lost. The four families became mixed but still tried to be separate. They became less powerful in terms of power but more in terms of influence. They spread through the world killing the mutants and so were not revealed as being the originator of the mutants. None of the four families ever found out what had happened to the Savitir if they had been wiped out by the humans or died out due to their few numbers. The families grew in size and influence and spread the myth of the werewolves to further disguise their true history.

When Jason put down the book his hands were shaking. Glancing at the end of the book he saw the author of the books name was Savister but strangely enough had no last name. Wondering if the author had any other books Jason went to the librarian to ask about it. Strangely enough the Librarian had never heard of the book and when she looked it up it did not exist in the library catalog. Jason was going to investigate further but the bell rang so he started to make his way to the next class but when he looked over his shoulder where the book had been it was no longer there.
