True Friends are never apart, maybe in distance but never in heart
(That's Jefferson Harrington above)
Jake's POV
"So..what is the distance found between the points?" Mr. McDonald asked the class. I, being the smartest, raised my hand but I wasn't the only one. The guy beside me did the same.
And he was the one allowed to answer.
"Yes, Jeff?"
"550 kilometres." He answered confidently.
Oh, buddy! You are so very wrong.
"Does anyone else have a different answer?" Mr. McDonald asked again, scanning the room for anyone who would be ready to answer. I raised my hand again and this time I was allowed to answer.
"Yes?"
"600 kilometres." I answered with a smirk. The guy whose name I had learned was....?
Something with a J.
Jelly?
Damn it , again!
Okay, for now he was Jelly.
"That is correct." Mr. McDonald announced. "Well done...?"
"Jake. Jake Matthews." I answered with a smile.
"Well done, Matthews." He smiled and then turned towards the board to write another math problem. Math had always been my strong point. I was always praised by my math teachers and won every math Olympiad since 2011. No matter how cliche it sounded, I really wanted Jelly to glare at me or feel slightly embarrassed by answering a 'wrong answer' with such confidence.
This blondie radiated confidence.
And he showed no signs of embarrassment.
If I were placed in his shoes, I'd hide myself for an eternity.
How did he do that?
That was when I realized that I had zoned out and the teacher had been staring at me.
Aw shit!
"Huh?" Why the hell did I zone out so much?
"Matthews , if you need to collect notes, you can take Harrington's help." He forced a smile, a disappointed look on his face. He probably didn't expect me to zone out.
Come on, this was not how I imagined my first day of school to go!
"Okay."
The teacher dismissed the class and headed outside, leaving us with packing our bags and to leave for our next class. The students at the back quickly left, leaving Harrington and I to be the only ones left.
Wait, Harrington?
That sounds familiar.
"So, I suppose you're the new student." He smirked. "I'm Jefferson Harrington."
He extended his hand for a shake.
"Jake. Jake Matthews." Pushing the thoughts at the back of my head, I shook his hand while replying with a smile.
"So, from where did you get transferred from?" He asked me, slinging his bag on his shoulders.
"Berry High."
We walked outside the classroom and made our way to our respective classes, talking like we've known each other for a long time. It didn't take us much time to bond over things and I found out that we had a lot in common.
This time though, students - especially girls- weren't glaring like when they did this morning when I walked out with Candy - I mean - Cady.
"Hey man, I have basketball practice, wanna come?" He asked me once I was outside the classroom to my next class - Chemistry.
"Wait, you play basketball and are a total dork?" I raised my eyebrows. It was a rare sight. Not everyone who were athletes were so good in studies. I hate to admit it, but I was jealous. I wasn't much of an athlete.
He grinned, "Who says I can't be a player and a dork at the same time?"
I laughed. Yeah, this guy had a good sense of humor. Without delaying further, I asked.
"When is it?"
"3:00 pm at the gym."
"I'll be there." I smiled.
He grinned.
"Don't miss me too much until then , Matthews." He called over, walking backwards. I crossed my arms against my chest, raising an eyebrow.
What did he think of himself?
Then again, we were quite similar.
Always confident.
"Worry about yourself, Harrington."
Both of us grinned and then walked towards our classes.
This day wasn't so bad after all.
