Chereads / STARS: A BEST FRIENDS STORY / Chapter 6 - Alexandra Snow

Chapter 6 - Alexandra Snow

"We are best friends. Always remember that if you fall, I'll pick you up...after I finish laughing."

After Mia left to see to the coach, I wandered for a couple of minutes and as soon as the practice started, I made a beeline towards the bleachers and took a seat at the very back so that I could have a view from the top. I wasn't exactly focusing on the game ahead but rather on my wandering thoughts and the events that happened today was on repeat on my mind.

At first, I met Candy - Cady.

Who was asked-forced- to tutor me in computer and also help me get the previous notes that I missed. Though I don't need tutoring, getting help with those notes was something I was okay with.

I was a man with pride, so getting help from someone kinda felt awkward.

Not that I never did it before.

It was still awkward.

Next, I met Jelly- Jeff.

A blondie who radiated confidence even if he got an answer wrong.

If I were in his shoes, I'd die out of embarrassment.

I hated to be wrong.

He was also a total dork who watched every 'superhero' related movies and t.v series and also all other t.v series and movies to have ever existed and cannot stop making references.

He was also a goofball.

And then finally, Malai- Mia.

The head cheerleader who always bossed people around and her teammates were frustrated with her. She thought a guy like me wouldn't talk to her. Maybe, people hated her. But I heard a girl saying that 'she was the star of the show'. Perhaps, that was the reason.

Overall, they were okay.

And I had no idea who I would meet next.

*Present Day*

"Yes?" a young man raised his hand to which I gave him permission to speak.

"If someone told you back then that they would be your best friends, would you have believed?"

I thought for a second before replying, "Nope. Absolutely not. Like I said, at that time, I felt they were okay. I was yet to meet the last two friends of mine."

Another girl raised her voice, "Did you ever fall for any of them?"

I laughed. "You're getting ahead of the story. I haven't even made friends, yet."

She asked again, "So who was the next one you met?"

I smiled, recalling the memory. "I didn't know at that time, but the next one I met happened to be my favorite."

"Riverdale High, that was a Riverdalic win!" Jeff exclaimed dramatically which made me snap out of my thoughts. I was confused for a few seconds and then I realized...

He made a Power Rangers Megaforce reference.

I tried to keep myself from exclaiming, "I understood that reference." because that would've looked awkward. Once his gaze fell on me, I gave him a thumbs up for a practice win. The players huddled together in front of the coach for some inspiring speech. I stood up from my place and made my way towards the exit when I certain 'beauty' stopped my way.

Okay, that's what she thought of herself.

She wore the cheerleaders uniform so I clearly recognized that she was a cheerleader. She was a lot shorter than I was so she had to crane her neck to take a good look at me. She was a brunette with brown eyes, fair complexion and a figure that clearly screamed that she starved herself everyday to look like this.

To me, she looked ill.

Who on earth tortured themselves to keep a figure when you have such amazing foods to eat?

I realized that cheerleaders needed to stay in shape

But she..um..not good.

"Ooh, aren't you the new transfer student?" She purred, her eyes twinkling.

"Uh, yeah." I tried to look anywhere but her. She was dangerously close to me and I was afraid that she would not let go of me easily. She looked like those classic mean girls. A classic witch.

Not that I really wanted to say witch.

I'd rather say something that started with a B and sounded like witch.

But I never insulted witches.

"Do you need any help? I can help you in any way you want."

I visibly gulped. No girl - Sorry- No woman could ever make me gulp (expect my mother, of course) and this girl... I didn't know what to do with her.

She seductively ran her hand through my chest , making me stiffen at the contact. It wasn't hard for me to keep my hands to myself as she clearly wasn't my type. But the way she ran her hands...

Eject the thoughts now! JAKE!

NAH! I'm good!

Me and my malfunctioning brain.

Don't blame me! I was a completely perfect guy!

Where were everyone when this was happening?!

"Do you mind keeping your hands off my boyfriend?" I heard a growl.

Wait-What?

Boyfriend?

The witch snapped her head towards the entrance to see who it was. I cocked my head to the side to see it was a blonde girl with blue eyes. She was wearing a plain white hoodie, a denim jacket , a pair of stripped jeans and converse. I swear, I never saw this girl in my whole life.

But if she said that I was her boyfriend

Well...

Thanks for the save!

"Boyfriend?" She snickered. "the lone wolf has a boyfriend? Since when, huh? five minutes in imagination?"

Okay, another cat-fight!

This was not going to end well.

The witch's hand tightened around my arm and I tried to suppress a yelp. I flinched but both of them didn't care enough.

Okay, well, my girlfriend cared enough. She was the one saving me.

"That is none of your business, bitch!" She freed my arm from the witch's clutches. I swear I never wanted to use that word.

"Why is that so , huh?" She paused then continued. "Your love life is none of my business but know this, he'll leave you like everyone else, like your pa-" She couldn't complete because the girl punched her nose. The witch fell on the floor and the whole gym went quiet. Eyes turned towards what happened. The witch cried and a few of the guys from the basketball team came at her aid.

"Not. Another.Bloody.Word." was all my savior said before she grabbed my arm and we strode outside the gym.

"Thanks." I spoke up after a long silence. We were outside the gym and into the greenery part of the school. The garden. As much as I heard, this school contributed as much as possible for 'Green Earth' project. They made a small garden and the kids of each grade plant a flower and plants of different kinds.

Until now, it had roses, lilies, tulips, touch-me-not, etc.etc.

She shrugged. "No problem."

She sat on the grass and took out her lunch- which was an egg sandwich and a bottle of coke-and began eating. I sat beside her and extended my hand.

"Jake. Jake Matthews."

"Alex Snow." She bluntly replied without shaking my hand. I quickly brought my hand to my side. If I was eating without offering anyone, my mother would have scolded me for bad manners. So clearly, this girl didn't have basic manners.

"So...do we have to pretend to be a couple?" She furrowed her eyebrows in confusion, so I reminded her, "given that you practically told that witch that I was your boyfriend?"

"Nope. No need." She swallowed her food before taking a swig from the coke bottle. "It wouldn't be anything new if you left me."

She paused.

"Speaking of leaving, do you mind?"

"Oh-Okay, thanks for the saving though."

She didn't reply.
