Friendship isn't about who you've known the longest. It's about who walked into your life and said, "I'm here for you." And proved it.
(That's Young Jake Matthews above)
Jake's POV
Computer student?!
When the hell did I need tutoring?
I've always been a bloody genius for God's sake!
"Computer student?!" I finally voiced my thoughts. I believe I was new here but that did not mean I needed tutoring. "I don't need tutoring. I've just come here!"
"Relax , Mr. Matthews." Principal Clana chuckled.
Damn it!
I've messed her name, again.
"It's not exactly what it seems like." She continued. I kept my mouth shut and allowed her to explain. I didn't wanna just freak out on my first day here.
I had a reputation to uphold.
After a few seconds when she understood that I wasn't going to say anything, she continued. All this while, the girl in question stayed silent.
"Ms. Cady Harrington, here is going to help you with notes as I saw that both of you have computer class. I assure you, Mr. Matthews, that you will have no problem in coping up with the class."
Okay, that was nice of her.
But something was up.
"Why are you just assigning her for my computer class and not all my classes?" When I questioned, I saw Candy's eyes widened for some reason. Maybe because she didn't want to help me with stuff. It wasn't like I needed her anyways.
Candy's head turned towards Principal Clara (Finally, I got her name right!) as Clara continued, "You see, it's sort of a —"
"I'll do it!" Candy spoke too quickly as if to cut Clara off. Clara glared at her for a few nano seconds to prove the point that she wasn't supposed to be disturbed during her explanation. But the glare was quickly replaced by a blank expression as she turned her attention towards me.
"There you go, Mr. Matthews. She'll be helping you with all your subjects." She turned towards Candy.
Cady! Cady! Her name's Cady!
My inner voice yelled at me.
Fine.
Cady.
"Am I right, Cady?" Cady nodded. Her eyes revealed nothing but a blank expression. I couldn't tell how she felt and I was adamant to find out what exactly happened.
I just didn't like to stay in ignorance.
—————————————————-
After we both got out from the Principal's office, Cady let out a sigh and fixed her ponytail. Now when I looked at her, all I saw was sadness.
Maybe it had something to do with that conversation you heard.
Maybe.
Still, I wanted to ask her.
I wanted to ask her what was the reason behind her unexplained sadness.
"Hey, you okay?"
She didn't hear me and walked straight towards the lockers. What was it with her? Why wasn't she talking?
If this was my old school, any girl would probably do anything to just 'talk' to me.
And she wasn't paying attention!
There were a lot of students staring at what was going on. Some of the girls kind of glared at her, some were day dreaming about god-knows-what.
Probably me.
Yeah, I was also the kind of guy , girls would tag as a 'hottie'.
"Candy?" Before I could take my word back -or well- the wrong name that I called her that sounded like a nickname, she glared at me.
Oops.
"What did you just call me?!" She yelled at me and I could hear a few gasps and whispers among students.
"Ca-" Damn it! What the hell was wrong with me?
Why the hell did I have such a stupid problem with names?
But before I could continue, she cut me off.
"Look, Jake Matthews. I don't care if you're new or you need any help or not. I'm just going to talk to you during classes because Principal Clara asked me to. Outside that, you don't know me and I don't know you. Okay?"
I could see how she struggled with her words. She wasn't used to the glared or gasps or whispers around. Yet, she was yelling at me in front of all of the students. She didn't realize that now everyone knew that we kinda know each other.
Mental note to self: Never piss Cady off!
I could not show the students that I was scared by a girl's threat so I stood my ground and relaxed for a few seconds before replying, "Okay."
She smiled, slightly before saying, "Get going."
She turned to leave but I immediately stopped her tracks.
"Hey, Candy?"
I did that on purpose.
I just didn't know why.
She turned back to face me with a smile.
"It's Cady , by the way."
At least now I knew, the name made her smile.
"I know. Just know that I'm here for you if you wanna talk about it."
