Chapter 171 - CHAPTER 170: What comes after this?

All I could do now was see what would happen to my bird. I had never expected that the bird would suddenly decide to eat a piece of destroyed human flesh.

But to my surprise, it didn't die. Instead, the bird started to change.

Quetzalcoatl doubled in size, its beak grew longer and sharper. Green and blue scales covered its feet, and the bird grew seven long feathers on its head that mimicked my horns. Last, it grew two claw like spikes on its wings that resembled mine.

Like with the human that had the potential to grow antlers, Quetzalcoatl now carried the faint scent of demons.

The bird just sat there confused about it's sudden increase in hight.

"Quetzalcoatl come here!" I commanded the bird.

The bird snapped out of its trance like state and happily waddled towards me in the same clumsy way it usually did.

I picked up the bird and worriedly inspected its soul, but I was relieved to find that it was still mostly the same as it used to be. It was now just adjusting to the new form of the bird.

I let out a sigh of relief and placed the bird on one of my horns.

After this I immediately took some of the clothes from the dead woman and burned the corpse. It would probably only bring trouble if other people would get infected with my blood.

I made my way back to Leonor who held a sleeping Zosimos in her arm. Allenya sat next to her and tried to explain a few things about babies. Apparently, she used to have younger siblings.

They both looked op when they heard me approaching.

"Wait, is that Quetzalcoatl? What happened?" Allenya was the first to ask.

I sat down next to them and took the bird on my arm. It protested a little since it liked to sit on my horns. But even now Quetzalcoatl couldn't bite trough my scales. "I was trying to find out what would happen to a human body if it comes in contact with my blood when it doesn't rot away. And this stupid bird decided to scare the shit out of me by taking a bite out of the corps."

Leonor stared at Quetzalcoatl with great interest. "So that was why there were a few unnatural wendigos back where you met me? A demon must have bled into the water supply causing the animals to die and the famine to begin in the first place. The people that still ate the corrupted animals could have taken on that odd form due to that. Since it was a lot more water than what I belie you used, it just took until they actually became wendigos for the blood to take hold."

She held Zosimos towards me. "Can we switch? I want to take a closer look at Quetzalcoatl."

I handed her the bird and took the child. "Are you sure that he won't scream again?"

She just shrugged. "I hope not. He sleeps now so I guess that he won't notice that you are the one holding him."

As if glued to the small child Allenya skipped over to my side. She even offered to help make diapers out of the clothes I had brought back from the dead woman, which was originally my intention to begin with.

Alex also noticed the small group sitting together and decided to join us.

"Wow, that kid completely fits in your hand. That is so cute. It should also make traveling a lot easier right?"

I angrily stared back at him and bared my teeth. He had spoken to loud, and I noticed how the child was waking up again.

Alex slowly backed away while holding his ands in front of him as if to block an attack. "Alright, I'm sorry I did not mean to wake up the kid."

I had suspected that the child would start to cry again the moment he opened his eyes. However, to my relief he did no such thing and just tried to grab one of my claws out of curiosity.

Allenya also saw this and grabbed the little hand of the young boy so that he wouldn't cut himself on my claws.

I softly chuckled. "Maybe I won't eat him after all."

Both Alex and Allenya looked at me in shock.

"You were planning on eating a child?!"Alex nearly shouted out.

"Only if he kept being annoying. But whether or not I eat a kid should be the least of your concerns right now. You know what I am talking about, right Leonor?"

She looked up from my bird and nodded. "Yes. Tough I have only read about it until now. It appears that we are currently living in the aftermath of the releasing of the seven seals and the first of the seven trumpets."

Allenya nervously looked at Leonor. "Only the first of seven? What comes after this?"

"Well, you have seen the rains of fire in the distance, right?" She said while focusing on my bird again. "That was the first trumpet. With the second one, one third of the ocean will turn into blood. With the third a star called wormwood will crash into the earth. With the fourth the remaining light of the sun will fade away. After the fifth trumpet called, an angel will open a pit and monstrous plagues will escape from it. After the sixth four angels will come down and start killing people. And the seventh will only cause some lightning. Once all the trumpets called three beasts will come to cause chaos on earth. I don't really know what happens after that. But I believe that seven bowls holding the gods' wrath will be poured down on this world."
