It did not take long before the second trumpet called. Tough no one exactly knew where it was coming from all of us could clearly hear it.
Even if I did not know where the angel was that blew the trumpet, I knew exactly where it wanted me to go. And so did an enormous group of other demons.
While the sound rag throughout the world, I had to keep myself together so that I would not follow the rest of the horde.
tough I couldn't follow them, how tempting it may be. I could allow myself to kill a few demons that were passing by.
When the chaos of the trumpet was finally over, we decided to move further land inwards. A third of the sea was indeed slowly turning red and there was no way of telling what the scent might lure to the coast.
Even if I wouldn't call it blood. I had to be honest that humans probably would not be able to tell the difference. So, I couldn't blame them.
Apart from that the humans couldn't live of the unhatched demon eggs alone and the few that were left would hatch soon.
After roughly two days of walking, we started to encounter normal plant life again. We decided to just go a little further after that and settle down in an area that was relatively untouched by the influence of hell.
I was currently sitting under an extremely large tree. The branches of the tree reached out even further than my wingspan and I was almost certain that the thicker ones could carry my weight.
I held Zosimos in my hand while Leonor was making notes about everything that had happened. I could not understand why she would still bother to do that. But if she wanted to do that, then I wouldn't stop her.
I focused on the child again. For some reason Zosimos was fascinated with my claws and happily tried to reach out to one of them.
I brought my other hand closer to the child so he could reach it without struggling too much. Still, I had to be careful. The skin of humans was thin and if he accidentally cut himself open, then that would be on me.
Leonor moved a little closer and now leaned against my wing. Which was one of the few places on my body where I did not have as many scales and was actually in her reach.
"When are you going to admit it?" She asked while a smile crept up her face.
"Admit what?" I asked in response while still focusing on the small human in my hand.
"That the big, red, evil demon likes to entertain a small human child." She said while poking my wing.
"Well, I let him live until this point. Don't make anything special out of it."
"Your tail." She pointed out.
I only now noticed that I had been slightly wagging my tail while playing with the child.
I sighed and rested my face in my free hand. "Why did Allenya tell you about that? And why do I keep doing that?"
"I don't know. But according to my calculations I now have to kiss you. I have written them all down if you want to check."
"That was not what we were talking about. And how could you even calculate such a thing?"
She stood up and pulled me down on the horn that was the easiest for her to reach. After she kissed me, she sat back down again and stared at the sky. Tough the branches of the tree obstructed most of it from view.
"So, what do we do now? Just run around until you eventually outlive all of us?"
"It won't take long before the third trumpet calls. And the time between those that follow will be even less. I can't take this many people with me when I get expelled from a realm. So, I'm planning on just waiting it out in this world. Then once it is fully absorbed into hell, we can look for the rift in space to your original world."
"And then what?" She replied.
I shrugged. "Then whatever we want."
"If we are leally going back to my old world. Then I might know some people who can built a castle large enough to allow you to move freely in it. If we can offer the right payment of course."
I shivered for a moment when I heard the word castle. "I would rather not have that. They collapse way to easy for my liking."
"Not at all. Why would you think that?" she confusedly asked.
"It's nothing. It's just… how I died the first time."
"Oh, I'm sorry." She fell silent for a moment. Then she looked up at me again. "We can talk about something else if you want to. We can discuss things like this later."
Before I could answer the dwarf, who looked quite exhausted, came towards us.
"What is it?" I asked out of concern.
"Some idiot made tea out of some random plant. And I am pretty sure that he got high because of that." He replied quite annoyed. "Elisa and I had to run after him for way too long until he eventually passed out."
"And why would you then come here instead of going to sleep? You look terrible."
He just shrugged. "Because I am blaming you."
"Wait he didn't do anything. How is that fair?" Leonor complained.
"Nah, I just wanted to say that it was Rubedo's fault. Since it saves me time."
I leaned back against the tree and played around with Zosimos again. I found it truly amazing how fast this little human could get used to something like me.
"Don't worry about it, Leonor." I said without looking up from the kid. "That moron does stuff like this all the time. He is basically an adult child with a death wish that I for some reason refused to grand up till this point."
"I couldn't agree more." The dwarf responded with a mischievous smile on his face. "Anyway, I am finally going to sleep. Don't wake me or… I don't know what I'm going to do. I am way too tired for this."
After he said that he walked away and left us alone again.
