I once again sat leaning on the tree. I was listening to the sound of the fire. I tried to completely focus on that so I wouldn't think about what happened. But my concentration skills weren't that good, and my mind started to wander off again.
I was tormented with flashbacks of what happened to the village. The fire and the sounds were so real that it was hard to distinguish it from reality. I could see every detail of my mother's face when the roof collapsed. I could hear my father scream at our attackers and I could see my sister covered in ash cry just so slightly.
("Why am I unable to cry?")
I curled up while wrapping my tail around me.
I missed them so much.
And so, I stayed, curled up like a small bundle of sadness. The others didn't seem to notice. Well maybe Gert since he is always keeping an eye on me. But I was certain that he wouldn't care or think of it as one of my 'evil' plans.
I opened my eyes and saw that the others were already in their tents. The fire was almost out only a few red sparks remained of what was once a bright source of light. But I could see everything still perfectly.
I saw that Yohan was still sitting next to the fire.
"Shouldn't you also go to sleep?"
He looked at my direction, but not directly at me. I bet that, that was because he couldn't see me in the darkness that surrounded the small red ambers of what once was the fire. He just looked at the direction which my voice came from.
"No, I wanted to talk to you."
I looked at him with a surprised expression. "Why?"
The man sighed. "Because the others show no fear when being around you. Even my daughter, and I am quite sure that you had noticed her personality."
"Makes sense, so what would you like to ask me since that al all everyone seems to want from me."
"Can you come closer do that I can actually see you?"
With a grunt I stood up from my comfortable spot under the tree. I walked over and sat down on the opposite side of what once was a campfire.
I admired the bravery of this man since he was sitting face to face with a demon, and jet he didn't run away. Even touch he was so afraid that I could literally sense his fear.
"Why did you want to come along to the stone city? I know that you're powerful, but even you can't destroy nor take over the stone city."
"When that other demon trapped me, he took something from me. I only hope that the people in the stone city can help me regain it. Of course, I would repay them by joining them and helping them in every way I can."
A few sparks lichened the night sky when an icy wind blew through the air. The man in front of me shivered.
I gave him a mocking look.
"I will ask you once again, shouldn't you go to sleep? You are still weakened; it wouldn't do you much good to stay out this late. Especially with this weather."
"You are right."
He stood up as fast as his cold bones allowed him. While illuminated in the dimming light of what once was a fire, he nearly looked like a zombie crawling from his grave. His thin dark hair and is nearly emaciated figure only strengthened this image.
"you know, you really aren't as bad as the stories said you were."
I slightly smirked.
"Yea I get that a lot."
Yohan proceeded to walk towards one of the tents, And I was once again alone. I sighed. My warm breath made little clouds in the cold night air. A sing that winter was approaching.
I remembered the time that I along with Allice pretended that we were dragons, and those clouds where the fire we used for battle.
I chuckled upon visiting that memory. I once again looked up. I wasn't able to see the stars due to the trees surrounding the camp like a bird cage. Each one of those trees had branches filled with orange and golden leaves that softly rustled due to the cold wind that gently stroke them.
I slowly stood up. The dry leaves crackled once I shifted my weight. I walked towards the tree I had been leaning against. Once there I climbed it and sat down on a thick branch.
I wrapped my tail around it so I wouldn't fall of in case of me losing my balance.
With my back pressed against the rough bark of the three I watched over the camp. I had no need to sleep so I figured that I could be of use by keeping watch.
It was peaceful up here. Being above all, watching over, seeing that the others were safe. I could tell that Yohan was asleep. Even though he knew I was here and that there was nothing in between us that would buy him enough time to escape if I were to become hostile.
I truly admired his bravery.
("Was this why the others follow him without a second thought.")
And so, the night slowly slipped by.
