Elisa immediately went to examine the nun. As I predicted she had a broken rib. But for the most part she was fine.
"What happened?"
Alex asked with his eyes locked on the wounds the nun ad suffered from.
"I don't know, but isn't it a weird thing that a demon brings a near dead nun? To me it looks like a cat bringing the mouse he catches inside the house."
Gert said in a rough voice. He had his arms crossed and was still looking out over the crimson fields, not even bothering to look at us when he spoke.
I growled, narrowing my eyes. I fought the more and more growing urge to rip out his spine.
"I heard one of those snakes and found her getting attacked by one."
Gert straightened his posture. "and how do we know you didn't inflict those wounds on her yourself?"
I could feel very muscle thence in my body, I bearded my teeth. It was getting harder and harder to hold back. ("Does this idiot not know in what kind of dangerous situation he is getting himself in?")
With a low voice I spoke trough my teeth. "You didn't even look at her. If you did, then you would see that I couldn't possibly inflict those wounds on her. And if you still don't believe me, the corps of the snake is twenty meters in front of us."
Gert clicked his tongue "Like I would trust the words of a demon."
I screamed at Gert. "You don't have to trust my words. The evidence is right there!"
"guys please don't fight."
Allenya's voice marched through the air. It carried surprisingly much volume and power.
I growled one last time at Gert before I went to the far ends of the place we rested. there I sat watching over the others and focusing on the sounds around us.
("It would be bothersome if the nun didn't wake up. Given that if she didn't one of us has to carry her since we can't just leave her here unconscious. I think that Gert can carry her for a while but it wont last long. I am the only one who can probably carry her for a prolonged period if time, but it hurts when I touch her.")
I looked at Elisa who was casting a healing spell on the nun. A dim spring green Light filled the area. It was hart to believe that the magic was cast by a human and not by some sort of celestial being. Even from here I could feel the gentle warmth carried by the healing energy.
This was something quite rare to witness. Though magic itself wasn't rare but not many people knew how to use it. This was because magic was used a mass destruction weapon in the great war. After that magic was banned for a long period of time. Everyone that was knew to use this forbidden art was publicly executed. Magic users were during that time blamed for famine and plagues. It was only in the past fifty years that magic became legal.
But by then the damage was already done. Almost everyone who knew how to use it was long gone and reckless experimenting with magic usually resulted in the caster tacking everything he or she had learned to the grave. It as a dying art.
A rough gaps interrupted my ray of thoughts. It was the nun whose broken rib begun to heal. she opened her dark brown eyes that reminded me of the bark of the tree I had spend the night in.
"Finally, your awake!" Alex nearly jumped on top of the nun, eager to ask questions.
"Please keep your distance; I could only heel her rib enough for her to breathe freely." Elisa spoke with a soft weak voice. She stumbled over to Yohan and immediately fell asleep next to him.
("luckily she didn't faint like last time she used magic.")
The nun tried to sit but tears streamed over her face. She had to lay down otherwise her rib would scream in protest to her movements.
Allenya slowly approached the nun. "can you tell me what happened? And you Gert should listen to what she says!"
Gert gave a low grunt and kept looking in the distance.
"The monastery got attacked by a large group of monsters and mad driven humans. I barely managed to escape and decided to warn the villages beyond the woods."
She paused, more and more tears begun to form in the corner of her eyes. "I was attacked by one of the blood red snakes and after that I remember nothing."
She begun to sob "everyone in the monastery, everyone is dead!"
I knew exactly what she felt. I knew the pain, the sorrow of losing everyone you knew. Yet she could cry.
Alex sat down beside her. He didn't say anything, he just put his hand on her shoulder and stared in the distance. Eventually she stopped sobbing and tilted her head to look at Alex.
"Thank you, thankyou all for saving me."
("Apparently she didn't notice me sitting around here.")
We stayed there for half an hour. We knew that we should leave the open field before sundown, but we couldn't carry three people. This left us with no choice but to wait for Elisa and Yohan to wake up.
Finally, Yohan showed some movement. with a soft groan he lifted his weak body up.
It didn't take long for him to see the wounded nun laying across him. She had been laying there in a state between awake and asleep due to her injuries. Softly crying over her physical and emotional injuries. Alex and Allenya never left her side but they couldn't do much. They couldn't use magic and hadn't enough knowledge about healing to ease the pain. As for the emotional damage, that just had to heal over time.
"Who is she?"
"A nun the demon found in the fields."
Gert who stood practically next to the trio spoke in an ever-blunt tone.
I raised my eyebrow, but no one seemed to notice that.
Yohan continued to ask Gert questions. Gert answered each an every one of them until Elisa woke up.
