Chapter 6 - Mentally lost

I woke to a strange warmth on my chest, looking down I found Christa, her hand on my chest.

"Christa what are you doing here, how did you even find the entrance,"

"Melody, it's not safe in the colony anymore be careful,"

"wait Christa you said that already,"

"melody I just got here how could I have told you already,"

"You did last night, you woke me up and said that exact same thing,"

"No I assure you that I just got here,"

"Maybe I was dreaming, I don't know anymore Christa,"

"well just don't go to the colony anymore melody, Don't ask questions just do as I say,"

"what's going on Christa,"

"I saw something, a vision, Something bad is going to happen... I don't want your running towards the danger as you usually do,"

"When have I ever..."

"Vegas when we were twelve, Chicago when we were fourteen, and of course recently when you discovered you're power that we don't understand yet,"

"Do you have any clue how it works Christa,"

"I think it has something to do with the guy who you... you know,"

"I still don't know, it's all so weird Christa,"

"I know, but you will figure it out baby... you always do,"

I leaned my head into her chest, wrapping my arms around her waist as she spread her legs to get up on my lap. I couldn't help but wonder what my skill was, I had been without one for so long that I couldn't stop thinking about how it works. Christa kissed my forehead slowly moving down to my lips. I breathed in heavily, my senses overwhelmed by the smell of Carmel, Christa always smelled like this without fail. She kissed me harder biting my lip as she picked up pace, but she stopped quickly noticing that she had bit down a little hard. I brought her back in a bit her in exchange, with a sight taste of iron blue light flashed through my head bringing images with it. She hadn't noticed something happened until I stopped, dead in my tracks my face turned white.

"melody what's the matter, is something wrong,"

"What did you see Christa,"

"nothing my eyes were closed, I got kinda wrapped up into the moment,"

"Not now, before Christa... your vision, what did you see,"

"I saw the colony, burning intense flames, the fire department said it was a gas line explosion,"

"Christa... what was the color of the fire,"

"Blue they said only gas could produce such a huge amount of blue flame,"

"Christa... The colony doesn't have gas lines, anymore,"

"You don't think that... "

"Someday I'm going to set fire to the colony, but why and how,"

"Melody please do what I say and stay away until we figure this out,"

I got up from the couch, immediately starting to pace. My mind ran a million miles an hour, as I nervously chewed at my fingers. Christa got her jacket and moved toward the door, stopping only to give me a kiss goodbye.

"It's ok baby, just don't go near the colony until things get figured out,"

The door closed behind her, leaving me alone with the hint of Carmel in the air. I paced until I drew blood from biting my finger. I grabbed ahold of my coat and my wallet and headed out, If I stayed her any longer there wouldn't be a floor anymore.

Cold autumn air blew through my hair, sending chills down my back. I crawled out of the trap door, shifting the trashcan back into place.

"Hey melody... long time no see,"

"I knew you were following me yesterday Eric,"

"You still owe me, but come back and your debt can disappear,"

"I'm not going back, and you know it,"

"life debts are more expensive than that dreary, but Come back and it will be settled,"

"Eric, you moved me out of the way of a golf cart, I highly doubt that is considered a life debt, besides you don't have an ability its not like you can take it by force,"

"oh I wouldn't be to sure of that,"

Heat flushed through me, his hands blazing with black flames. I stared, eyes wide from fear as the flames flickered up his arms.

"I had an ability melody, I just never had to use it with you,"

"I don't care you aren't going to take me without losing a few chunks of yourself first Eric,"

He flicked his hand as ball of flames erupted from his hand, flying toward my head. The most tactical move would be to dodge until I could safely get closer. I had decided that if I don't use my powers then I wouldn't hurt anyone else, its funny the lies I tell myself to be human. I dodged left and right, Four balls had been fired so far and he showed no sign that he was going to stop. Three more balls flew toward me as he stopped to make another offer.

"Melody stop being difficult, and just come with me,"

I made note that his breath was heavy and staggering. It seemed that his flames took oxygen from his body rather then the air.

"That is never happening again Eric, You sold my body for years... no more, find someone else to pawn off to the highest bidder,"

He gritted his teeth, firing off a shot. I dodged left, keeping count of it in my head. One I thought already diving out of the way of another blast. I slid down as the third blast passed over head. I kicked off with my feet, launching out of the way of another blast. I threw myself forward, barely missing the fifth and sixth blasts. One more shot is all he had left. He fired his last shot as I sipped my leg underneath his arm, the laces of my shoes resting on his neck. I slammed my foot downwards, his skull cracking down onto the pavement. I quickly checked his pulse, lucky I found it. I dragged him into a different alley, praying he wouldn't remember anything about what had happened. I unfortunately found out the opposite about five hours later, when I came back the the ruins of my apartment building.
