Chereads / The Ethax Chronicles / Chapter 2 - The New World

Chapter 2 - The New World

The city of the small people was astonishing, perhaps it shouldn't be called a city. We arrived at a huge underground fortress inside a mountain. There were two thick giant iron doors in the entrance and tall medieval archer towers protruded from the snowy mountain in strategic places. The place was an iron fortress, no enemy would be able to enter it and I knew if I was accepted as part of the small people I would be safe against everything and anything.

If dragons existed in this mystical world I was sure I would be safe even against them. That's how incredible the dwarven fortress looked like.

The huge fortress was full of small people, some were thin and little while were strong and short humans. After the group talked with various individuals I was taken along the little elephant to the small lady's house who apparently lived with the quick-witted little person.

The little squarish house was quite cozy, in contrast to their height, the ceiling was quite high and the house was human-looking. There were two floors and one basement, I didn't know what was in the basement but the first floor was composed of a small kitchen fully geared with cooking materials, a small table and drawers. The dining hall has a medium-sized table and some medium-sized chairs. The hall on the first floor was full of books and had an elegant desk made of fine looking wood, I supposed that was the mage's office. It was decent looking and mostly everything was made out of good quality wood.

On the way here I realized a lot of things while looking at the town's scenery. The small, burly and bearded persons were smithing gear, cutting wood, and crafting tables in front of stands that looked like shops. Their dexterity and craftsmanship was astonishing. That explained the beasts' armor and the comfy looking furniture in the small lady's house.

Going back to the lady's house, the second floor had three rooms. An odd-looking bathroom, a room with a single bed, a table, a stand, and a master bedroom with an inadequately big bed for the gnomes' size, it also had a stand, a table, and some night-stands.

The small lady carefully took me to one of the rooms and the little person followed while carrying the little elephant. I was a bit surprised since the thin little guys kept carrying the small elephant that was bigger than them. We were carefully tucked into the surprisingly soft bed after being fed some water and some strange orange colored liquid that made me feel refreshed.

After a couple of days staying in the room, in which I couldn't do anything but poop, eat and sleep, I realized that if I focused hard on the small lady a small blue window would appear. I couldn't manage to see it properly but consistently kept trying. I also paid extreme attention to the conversations the lady had, to see if I could get a hang of the language.

A week passed and it seemed the small lady and the intelligent little person had adopted me. I was quickly regaining mobility of my body and could do some really basic stuff now. Once again, I tried hard to focus on the small lady and finally saw the window pop up.

I was deeply astonished by the game-like status window that opened and amazed by the world I was brought to. The small lady was a dwarf named Fiona Steelaxe, she was a level 6 Holy Priest and had some incredible looking skills in healing.

After some minutes thinking I concluded that I should have a status board too, I just didn't know how to open it. As if meditating, I directed my attention on making my status appear, the blurry window abruptly materialized.

I was immediately astonished by what I saw the dwarfs had named me Nýr, I should've realized because they constantly said that when looking at me.

That wasn't the astonishing part, though, I was a demigod! A f*cking demigod!!!

Not only that, but I also had some weird looking skills that only confused me even more. After carefully looking at my status I also realized I had health points! Did this mean that when my health points reached zero, I would die?

Looking more closely, I had more stats that I couldn't see in Fiona's status page, along with 10 unique points I could spend. I was afraid of making a mistake and abstained from using any.

The incredible looking status page made me awe at my potential, I was amazed and wondered if Fiona could look at my status too. Since she treated me quite normally considering my big size and all, I supposed that was the case. I wonder how freaked out she would be if she realized I was a f*cking demigod!

A couple of weeks went by and the only thing I could do was continue to eat, sleep, and poop while planning for the future. It was quite a stale life, but I had the little elephant that accompanied me at all times. He never left my side and I felt a strong bond with him as if he could hear my thoughts. It was nice and I felt grateful for his companionship.

As time passed, I had a lot of time to assimilate the fact and think about how I reincarnated into a demigod, the new game-like world I was in and the surprising eagerness I felt to explore this incredible looking world.

While preparing for the future I understood I had to gather as much information as possible so I decided to look at the status boards of the intelligent gnome and my brother elephant, who I named Manny. The gnome's status looked as follows

Manny's status was a bit similar to mine, he also was a demigod elephant and his passive was the same as mine. Looking at the passive a little bit more we were custom made to be physical warriors. I had to give up my dream of being an incredible fire mage like Corbis.

Throughout the following days, while laying down I carefully analyzed my body, since I was a demigod now I might have something different to my previous human body, but while feeling around I wasn't able to find a single thing different than before.

I breathed normally, pooped normally, peed normally, everything was the same as when I was human, thankfully.

I knew I had two priorities, learn the language of dwarves, to get knowledge about the world I was in now. My second priority was to train my body and research a bit more about magic. I knew that in my past life, children were much quicker learners than full-grown adults, so I had to take advantage of this new childhood and use it to learn as much as possible.

Maybe because of luck or some unknown reason, my plan to learn the language failed. Luckily, that failure was unbelievably for the best.

As soon as I could crawl, I managed to go all the way to the first floor in a challenging adventure. I'm pretty sure I hit myself hard in the descent of the wooden stairs but I didn't feel the pain as hard as I should've felt it. Just when I managed to grab a book I was quickly found by Fiona who had come back for something she left behind. Fiona found me looking at the words in the book I had grabbed, quietly and focused.

As expected of my new 'mother', Fiona, she was smart enough to deduce I might want to start learning. The smart Fiona quickly communicated with Corbis about the matter and whenever they had free time they would teach me the language to the best of their abilities. Surprisingly, I began learning and understanding the language at an accelerated rate, used by dwarves and gnomes.

And time flew by like that.
