Chapter 8 - The Sin of Wrath

Seven strange beings were on top of the fallen Great Iron Door of Dürandal. They had all types of bodies and characteristics. As soon as Simon saw them he quickly said to Gatgas

"Attack the middle one. I'll take the third to the left."

Gatgas didn't even question Simon, as teammates that had fought many battles, both knew their first attack could direct the flow of the battle. Simon always targeted the strongest enemies, that way they would use their strongest attack to eliminate the strongest enemy.

Gatgas quickly began running, while brownish color began filling his body and hammer. His speed and stats when he was unleashing his first attack were unbelievable. In three seconds Gatgas covered a large distance of 100 meters, he was in front of the middle of the seven beasts. There was a skinny, tall monster there. He didn't have the face of a human, it had small horns and his body was dark purple. Gatgas's hammer had some sort of aura that hugely grew while he strongly swung it against the demon who managed to react and raise his two arms.

*BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM*

Dust swallowed the battle field, Gatgas's hit was so strong that the whole mountain trembled. I could've mistaken it for an earthquake if I wasn't watching it. While this was happening, Simon had prepared a huge fire arrow which he fired and hit just at the same time Gatgas did. The arrow exploded with the same force of the hammer, they both smashed two of the strange beings to a pulp, and the arrow managed to hurt two more. After the dust settled, Gatgas appeared along a giant wolf, a giant bear and something that looked like a golem.

The 7 beings had become 5 just as the battle started. Corbis was paying attention to the fight, so we could escape as soon as things looked bad. The safest spot right now was with the two city guards, despite the possibility of collateral damage.

Simon had also summoned a giant wolf, which looked quite menacing and a big wolverine. The status window quickly told me they were a Dark Iron Wolf and a Swift Dark Wolverine. Immediately as the dust settled, I could see somehow the beast had managed to dodge Gatgas hammer, the one shot by Simon wasn't alive anymore though. Gatgas was currently fighting three beasts, the bear and golem were fending two beasts off and Gatgas and the wolf were fighting the middle one, which was the strongest. Gatgas's wolf quickly went to attack the tall beast, but just when his teeth chomped on the beast, it faded. It was an after-image, the beast was already beside the wolf, it grabbed it by the waist and ferociously snapped it in two. The wolf quickly dissipated and entered Gatgas body, who was already in front of the beast and just as the wolf was snapped, smashed his hammer into the demon, making its upper body completely explode into gore.

The last three demons had come chasing us, Simon had already shot three more arrows, less potent, to slow the enemies even more. Gatgas was also swinging the hammer to gain momentum, despite their efforts, the remaining two demons easily overcame the pets with astonishing strength and immediately moved to overpower Gatgas, he created an earth wall that was destroyed by a demon's kick, then a big earth spike raised against the second one, to force him to stop the attack and he tried to attack the dodging demon with his hammer.

The three other demons quickly rushed towards us, Simon kept shooting arrows and every time he shot an arrow, the enemies were hit. His perfect aim was inhuman, he didn't seem to miss a single shot against the agile demons, it was uncanny. His arrows exploded, repeatedly hurting the enemies.

Gatgas kept the intense fight against the three enemies, as the middle demon had somehow regenerated from his upper body being exploded, but one of the demons did something illogical. His arm became engrossed in aura, it looked sharp as a sword and it had the common color of the knight aura from the Gale Empire, Green. It was common knowledge that different races trained their soldiers with different auras, the Gale Empire's royal knight aura was green and the demon just in front of us used the human ability to stop Gatgas's momentum.

He landed a strong hit that sent Gatgas flying towards another demon that quickly reacted and slammed him to the ground. Whilst flying, Gatgas had raised four earth spikes that had managed to impale one of the three demons, sadly, he wasn't quick enough to raise an earth wall, to mitigate the damage, and so, he was hardly slammed to the ground.

The demons were merciless, when Gatgas was in the ground, the two of them quickly rushed to keep hitting him, Gatgas continuously willed the earth to do something, but the quick rapid attacks of the demon kept hurting him and he couldn't concentrate hard enough to do something. Whilst this was happening, Corbis had grabbed my hand and we were running away from Simon, it was no longer a safe place. The reinforcements were nowhere to be found and the two Demons were so close that Simon began running too after sendin his pets into battle, maybe Corbis knew this would happen but he had predicted it and we were quite far when Simon began retreating at an absurd speed and making inhuman moves.

He quickly climbed a building and from on top of it, stood still for 5 seconds, charging a fierce attack, the fire was so potent the roof of the building got scorched. He shot and -

*FOOOOOOOOOSH*

Simon opened a hole in another demon's stomach but once again, the demons defied logic. Using holy magic plus his regenerative powers, the demon quickly healed the hole and began fighting with the fierce Wolverine.

The second demon was fighting the ferocious Dark Iron Wolf which was using dark magic to protect his weak points.

The third demon went towards us. It was quite unfortunate, maybe he thought we were strong but he looked like the weakest of the five demons. He followed us whilst Corbis used his fire powers to delay him, but Corbis was too weak. The fire didn't even damage the demon, I willed the earth to create many walls but the demon quickly destroyed it, threw spikes but they only delayed him.

Corbis quickly summoned his Ox and sent him to attack while we kept running. The Ox only managed to delay the demon for a bit, since after some attacks the Ox dissipated into Corbis's body.

Once again, it shouldn't have been possible but the demon used air magic, making us trip and fall considerably. Corbis quickly pushed me away and said,

"Run and hide Nýr, run!"

I quickly ran for my life but then I heard a whoosh and a thud. I turned around to see what was happening and-

[Sin of Wrath unsealed]

My eyes turned red.

Simon had already skilfully managed to fend off the demons that were pursuing him, he aided Gatgas with three quick arrows he shot whilst running, without even looking and directly went towards where Corbis had run to.

Gatgas had severe injuries all over his body. The demons kept hitting him but he was too resistant and kept trying to fight back. The three arrows gave him enough time to gain the momentum back. Despite being quite bloody, Gatgas impaled one of the demons and used his hammer to fight the other. Using his vast combat experience, he kept using earth to fend two demons and used his hammer dexterity to fight the other. Earth spikes kept rising, demons were impaled, he kept hammering them until he finally won. After the long, harsh fight, his small bloody corpse looked weak. The old great dwarf tiredly laid on the ground beside the dead demons and slept.

Simon was quickly chasing behind the demon when he saw from quite the distance how he had used air magic, he didn't understand what was happening or how the beasts were using the races' powers but he prepared to shoot. He was too late.

Corbis's head exploded and his body fell to the ground, a short distance away, Nýr was frozen in place, looking at the cruel scene. Simon quickly hurried and shot a large fire arrow, which landed on the demon's right shoulder. His right shoulder was completely decimated and his hand fell to the ground.

Simon was preparing to shoot again when he saw Nýr growing at a fast pace, he was strongly breathing, as if hyperventilating, he grew for a couple of feet and stopped. His clothes ripped apart and his skin showed. The earthly tanned skin became reddish, Nýrs eyes were glowing red, an elephant tattoo in his left chest was brightly glowing red, large horns grew from his head and a pitch-black tattoo began spreading throughout his body.

Nýr charged towards the demon, disregarding everything, he wasn't thinking. He charged and punched the demon repeatedly. The demon fought back, with his one hand he managed to fend Nýr off and kicked him against the wall. Nýr's body looked badly hurt, he was bleeding and his bones looked broken but he stood anyway, charging at the demon again. This was a fatal mistake since just as Simon was about to shoot he was forced to redirect the arrow towards a mountain wall. Simon could see the future trajectory of objects, so he knew what Nýr was going to do and his arrow would've hit Nýr instead of the demon so he was forced to redirect his arrow.

Nýr was recklessly attacking, millions of earth particles were rising and coming from every direction of the mountain, which gathered around Nýr. The particles gathered into a spinning ball in Nýr's bloody hand and surrounded him as if protecting him. The earthly color and spinning particles created a large spinning ball of the earth that spun at an astonishing speed in Nýr's hand. Nýr charged to the demon once again and threw the ball towards the demon, the ball missed and hit the ground below the demon's legs, creating a large explosion that swallowed his legs.

Nýr quickly charged forward and began kicking and punching the legless demon everywhere, the demon wasn't dead just yet, he managed to land the last punch in Nýr's ribs, breaking them and sending him flying. Just as Nýr was about to hit a wall, the sand floating around him became a soft surface that bore the impact. Still, Nýr didn't get back up since he had fainted from the severe damage.

Simon, the only witness of all these events, had his mind in rambles. He didn't understand what was happening, he was pained by Corbis's death, he wondered what the hell had those demons come from? Why did Corbis's son have so much power? How could the demons use human aura?

Despite being mentally unstable, his combat experience made him to never waver. He had already prepared another arrow, which he shot as soon as Nýr was sent flying away, exploding the demon's head and upper body. Simon quickly covered Corbis's corpse with his jacket and then ran towards Nýr with a red potion in his hand.

A red potion that had been crafted by the gentle and young Corbis.
