It is now the weekend. And today marks the sixth day I became Serafi's Guardian Angel.
After the incident with the Devil, life has been the same from then on with nothing much to mention. The days was the same and I usually spend my time observing people in the house. Yes, just like right now.
Currently, I'm listening in to the conversation Karin and Arthur is having in the kitchen. Dean had already left to play outside with his friends and Serafi was having her afternoon nap time. Leaving only these two for me to amuse myself with.
Karin, who had her long hair tied up, was cleaning the counter as she sighed, "Arthur, what do you think I should do? Serafi..."
Arthur was sitting at the dining table. He had placed his laptop on the table, seemingly concentrating in doing work. Upon hearing Karin's words, he paused his hands for a moment before resuming. "She's still young. It's normal for her imaginations to be colourful. You worry too much."
Even with Arthur's words of comfort, Karin had her brows creased, "Well, I do agree with that. But it's hard to not worry. These past few days, Serafi had been talking about her 'Ange' so much that it almost seems like she's an actual person. You don't think someone had been approaching our baby by saying they're a guardian angel, right?"
'Geh!' Hearing her mention my name suddenly, I couldn't help the sweat trickling down my back. 'I'm the cause of worry? Although her suspicions are actually rather accurate.'
With Karin's unease apparent on her face, Arthur finally stopped doing his work. He gently closed his laptop as he turned to look at Karin. "But didn't you also said that nothing like that had happened? You had asked the teachers in the kindergarten about any strangers coming to talk to Serafi and they said that there hasn't been any. From the moment she got there to the time you came to pick her up, she had always been either with her friends or a teacher. And at home, she's always either with us or playing in her room."
"I know... But still..." Karin looked down as she sat down at the chair next to Arthur. "There's also times when I caught her talking alone, you know..."
Seeing his wife like that, Arthur smiled helplessly as he reached out to hold her hands, "Hey. I know you can't help but worry. You are her mother. But it's fine. Children her age do tend to get rather imaginative. Just leave it be. She'll grow out of it on her own."
"I suppose..." Karin muttured, half convinced.
Arthur shook his head with a resigned look, probably having decided to let time do it's trick. He opened his laptop again, continuing his work in a leisurely pace.
Karin was silent amidst the typing sounds. Eventually, she got up and continued cleaning the kitchen in silence.
'This is bad, isn't it? Yeah, it's definitely bad.' I thought as I watched the situation in silence.
I'm got too used to talking to Serafi that sometimes I forget that she's the only one that can see me. Serafi being the pure innocent little girl she is, obviously she never actually thought about how others see her.
At this rate, won't people be suspicious and start to think that there's something wrong with her head? Having hallucinations and such. It's still fine right now as she's still rather young so they just attribute it to her imaginations but who know what will happen in years to come?
Thus, before that happens, I have to nip the problem at it's bud. I'll have to get Serafi to understand the situation and act accordingly.
'Now, how should I explain this to her without affecting her innocence?' I thought as I floated upstairs to Serafi's room.
Peeking inside, I see that Serafi had already woken up. She was staring blankly at the wall in a daze when she noticed me at the door. "Ange~" She happily called out.
"Serafi..." I smiled as I went to her side. Lightly combing her messy hair with my fingers, I said, "I'd like to talk with you about something."
"Talk? About what?" She asked curiously as she turned her head to look up at me.
"You see, Serafi's mommy was worried about you." I said, deciding to tell her the situation.
"Worried?" Serafi tilted her head adorably.
"Yeah," I continued, "Currently, only Serafi can see me. Both Karin and Arthur couldn't so whenever Serafi talked to me, for them, it looked like Serafi was talking alone."
"Is it bad if Serafi was seen talking alone?" She asked innocently, genuine curiosity written across her face.
Facing her innocence, I was suddenly speechless. "It's not bad... It's just that people tend to worry if they saw that."
"Why do people worry, then?" She asked, peering into my eyes as she did so.
"Uhh..." Finding it harder to explain to her, I grew rather frantic, "Because, whenever someone talk, isn't it normal that they'd be facing someone that they're talking to? That's why when someone talks alone, people would worry."
Tilting her small head in wonder, Serafi responded innocently, "Serafi gets it... but at the same time doesn't...? But why would mommy worry though? She knows that Serafi was talking to Ange."
"That... You see, Serafi, sometimes adults would forget things easily. Especially since only Serafi could see me. That's why it's better if Serafi doesn't talk to me whenever there's others around."
"Eh? Is that so? Serafi understands... Mommy does sometimes forget her things. To not worry Mommy, Serafi will remember to not talk to Ange whenever she's around." Serafi said as she made a triumph face.
"Not just Mommy, Serafi. Everyone else too. What if someone saw and told her? It won't make a difference then," I patiently corrected her.
'Haa... I should have told her from the start to never talk about me to others...' As I grumbled inwardly, Serafi was nodding her head, saying how she understands.
Just as I was having all sorts of emotions mixed together, I heard a sudden tap on the window. Like someone was tapping on it with their nail. But as this is the second floor, that should be impossible.
Turning to look over, I saw a one eyed blond man behind the window, waving at me with a gentle smile.
When I was feeling shocked to see his sudden appearance, I heard Serafi's voice calling over to me, "Ange? What's wrong? What's Ange looking at?"
As she trotted over to the window, she stood on a small step and opened the window, looking outside, "Is there something out there?" She asked, as if not seeing the man right in front of her.
'No. She really can't see him?'
Tilting my head in wonder, I smiled at Serafi and shook my head, "No. Just saw a bird fly by. That's all."
Serafi nodded her head as she continued to look outside.
"Serafi, why don't you go downstairs? I overheard Karin mentioned earlier that she was going to bake some cookies," I said as I eyed Meril.
He just smiled serenely as usual. Without so much of any other expression, I couldn't tell his purpose in coming here.
"Cookies?! Mommy!!" Snapping back at my words, Serafi's eyes sparked as she ran out of the room in a hurry.
"Ahahaha..." Chuckling lightly, Meril entered through the window, "I like the way you handled her."
"She really likes food. That's the easiest way to move her," I replied.
I gave him a look, asking him why he's here with my eyes.
With the same expression, same gentle smile, he said, "I came here because there's a matter I'd like to discuss with you. Although, preferably, I was hoping I'd find Kael here too."
"Kael isn't here right now. He went off to do his job. He should be returning when night falls," I said simply, curious why he would want to talk to us.
"Is that so..." He muttered, staring at me with his one good eye.
"Will it be alright if I wait here until he returns? Things will be easier if both of you are here," he asked gently.
"Sure." I said, before continuing, "Not in this room, though. There's a room in the attic. It's more of a storage but it's always kept clean so Kael stayed there whenever he's free."
"Lead the way," Meril said, his eye giving off a golden glow as he spoke.
