Synopsis
"Hm? Hello? Are you actually listening to this? Well, anyways. This is a story about me, Nikolai, about the future and my evolution... Or, at least, you can see me try to be a better person." A short recording made by our protagonist. He isn't really that good at presenting himself to others, even though he has that eccentric personality of his. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is my first novel, and I am not an native English speaker, so it may contain spelling error and things as such as that.

Chapter 1 - The Fall Of An Age.

Well, that's awkward. Once, I was the captain of the resistance against a revolution that wanted to destroy machines, feared and respected among my men, even though I was just a mercenary good at doing his job. If you are wondering who I am, my name is Nikolai, and I am basically a Cyborg, knowing only that is enough, for now.

Right now, I, with my body falling into pieces, ran between trees, deep inside a forest close to the city I always lived. My mana was running out, my mechanical body was barely functional, my legs couldn't keep up because of the damage I received and half of my right arm was ripped off.

"God damn it. How could such hillbillies destroy our entire force? Fuck. I just wanted to be drinking something right now, comemorating out victory, but in this state, right now, I probably wouldn't even be able to taste the bittersweer taste of alcohol in my mouth." I thought to myself, moving forward to escape them, even though it probably won't be possible.

My vision was strange, the colors didn't combine together how they used to, my left eye didn't work correctly and its scan function was hardly funcional, but it could do the trick for now. I hid behind a tree, while scarcely listening to the running footsteps coming from behind.

"Darwin, are you there?" - I said, looking at the sky, just feeling the rain falling on top of me. As I said it, a mechanical and friendly voice came inside my mind. "Of course I am, you know I can't leave." I laughed a bit, even though Darwin acted like a child sometimes, he was a pretty funny AI to talk with. "I need you to use my rest of mana inside my core to make me intagible for some time until I reach somewhere under the ground, then immediately start the Recuperation Protocol."

Darwin remained silent for some seconds. Why? Well, that Protocol was made for extreme situations. Once it was activated, my whole body would deactivate so it can regenerate itself until it reaches a point where I can barely defend myself using the body. But it was extremely unefficent and slow, seeing my body right now, it would take a long time. Some months, I guess. I have never tried it before, but it shouldn't take much.

"Are you sure, sir? Once Intagibility gets activated, nothing touches you, nothing sees you, you can't feel, see nor hear anything, you can die doing that. And, as you know, the Recuperation Protocol is extremely slow." Darwin said to me, as he would always advice me during my adventures.

The revolutionaries were almost getting to me, I couldn't hide anymore, so I got myself up and turned around, leaving from behind the tree with my left arm and remaining of the right one raised, walking towards them. "Oh! Hello there, everyone, How a-" While I was talking, one of them, around his 40's, standing in the front line, probably one of their "generals", interrupted, as they stopped running and positioned in a formation. "Stay still, cybernetic scum! You are going to be executed here and now!"

Argh. These guys were always this annoying, I'm just trying to have a healthy conversation with them. I can't even fight. Can't they have at least a bit of consideration for me? "So, how I was saying before. How are you guys doing? Well, I am not actually thaaaat fine, but, you know, I can still survive." I said in an animated voice, slowing down my pace, but still walking towards them. A grin was stamped in my face while I walked. They were seemly nervous looking at me, even though they had numberical advantage.

The bumpkins felt like that because they knew what I was capable of, even with my body messed up like that. But, what they didn't know, was that I was running very low on mana right now, and all my five senses were fucked up, so I had a bit of an advantage.

"Sir, both the Protocol and the Intangibilty can be activated right away, once your command is done, you will slowly become intangible, because of the damages received." Great. I didn't have to buy time for him to do all of that. He was really great. "Do it, Darwin." I muttered, making my body to slowly fade away from their sights. "Oh! Look at that! I am being sent to the spiritual woooorld! Oh noooo." I exclaimed in a ironic tone while laughing, expecting to look at their dumbfounded faces.

But... Things did not go according to plan, they simply stood still as the old man commanded "Fire! Don't let him get away!" FUCK! I didn't think they would actually react! But that's okay, it is not like that old guns can hit m-...

[ERROR] EXTREME DAMAGES TO THE USER'S BRAIN AND ITS PROSTHESES WERE FOUND.

[ERROR] ONE SKILL IS CURRENTLY ON USE, ONCE IT GETS DEACTIVATED, RESTORATION PROTOCOL WILL IMMEDIATELY START. BODY NEEDS URGENT REPAIRS.

It was the last thing I saw before losing my counsciouness. I hope Darwin makes it.
