Nikolai stopped thinking on June 3rd, 3016, and I, Darwin, started to make my job done and regenerate his body. Hopefully, I didn't affected by any bullets, but, his brain, and a lot of the machines attached to it, did get shot.
You must be wondering, how are you even going to regenerate machines? They aren't even his real body, they don't even have an inate ability to regenerate itself. Well, his body has the skill to create matter, even though it is really, really slow. He mainly uses it to produce his own ammo and store it inside himself, but now, I guess he doesn't need it right now. My job right now is to make sure none of it fails.
[REBOOTING...]
[Body in bad condition, barely working, but able to move itself. Consciousness being restored.]
[Welcome back, Nikolai! You have been away from your consciousness for @%!%!$! years!]
I slowly opened my eyes, feeling fuzzy, my vision was strange, looking like the static of a TV. My hearing wasn't working properly, I couldn't feel anything on my skin, I could barely smell anything in the air. And, another strange thing. Years? I know I did get shot, but was it that bad? And why isn't it showing on my HUD? Fuck, I am in an worse condition I ever expected to be.
"Da-Da-Darwin, a-a-are you the-the-there?" I said in a complete mechanical voice, with a lot of repetitions, like a cassette tape with problems. I always liked antique things, I got excited once I found a tape that actually worked some years ago. "You know I am, sir." Darwin looked like he was working fine. "How ma-many years have I be-been away?" I asked, standing up, staggering from left to right, but being able to stay still with a bit of effort. "Exactly 1500 years, sir. Today is June 3rd, 4516."
My body froze in place, I started looking at the ground. What...? 1500 years? He must be wrong. How is that even possible? I am inside a cave really deep under the ground and no one noticed me? Was it because I was technically dead? But my core was still working, retaining mana constantly. They just presumed I was dead? They didn't scan down here? Strange.
Placing that aside... I started to look a way out of there. My scan was barely working right now, but it showed me that there wasn't a forest above me anymore, but, instead, it showed me running water below ground. It was the underground sewer. Making it even more strange to the fact I was laying down here for a millenium and a half, unscathered.
Now, it was time to scape.
