" I accept Chief. I want to be the Protector of Young chief. I will spend my entire life beside him as I see him grow up. I vow in the name of the heaven and earth that I will always protect him with my life and if I fail to do so then the heaven and earth will be my judge."
After Hoshino took the vow the sky darken for a bit and the ground shook. A brilliant ray of golden light covered Hoshino and Kongane. It was as if the heaven and earth recognize the vow and showed that they had heard the vow and if not fulfilled that the heaven and earth will punish Hoshino themselves.
A seal slowly formed on Hoshino's forehead from the golden rays. Upon seeing this the village chief nodded and handed Kongane to Hoshino. Hoshino gently took Kongane in his arms and tenderly looked at him. It seemed that Kongane was sleeping and it was acceptable since he was still a baby and babies sleep a lot.
The villagers along with the village elders smiled seeing this. After all the future of the village was the small child and everything that is done for him is the same as doing something for the village. The village chief and Hoshino, who was still holding Kongane, walked to the stage.
" The Protector for Kongane is choose and the rewards for the hunting competition has been distributed. Now it is time for the feast. " Announced the village chief loudly with a happy smile on his face.
All the villagers cheered. The men started to gather the fire wood and skin the hunted animals for everything that it's worth. The women chopped the vegetables and arranged the cooking utensils for cooking the feast. One by one the men brought the meat of the hunted to the cooking place and the women started cooking the dishes once all the ingredients were present. Even Kongane's parents helped the villagers in cooking the feast. The elderly , pregnant, the sick and the young watched from the sides as they waited from the dishes to be ready. Soon the entire village was covers with the fragrance of the dishes as the stomach of the warriors started to grumble. The villagers laughed hearing them and told the warriors to wait as the food would be ready soon.
All this time Kongane was in Hoshino's arms as he walked around the village. With the baby in his arms Hoshino would stop from time to time when he saw that Kongane was staring at something and explain it to him, even though he knew that the baby Kongane wouldn't understand but he found enjoyment in explaining these things to him. Or so he thought.
Kongane woke up to the heavenly lights. When he did he found his new father giving him to an unknown man. But he didn't struggle and pretended to be sleeping as he listened to the voices of the villagers all around him, trying to make sense of the words that they are saying. In the last couple of days he was sleeping most of the time but the times when he was not he would listen to the conversation of the villagers and try to make sense of the words that they are saying. He could make sense of a few words here and there but that was all. He was trying his utmost best to try and make sense of the words so that he could understand this new world better. His progress was good for most people but he wasn't satisfied. He was after all a perfectionist. Everything he did had to be perfect and has to be done in the fastest time possible. If not he wouldn't be able to sleep at night. It not for the fatigue he feels all the time he would have been awake all night even in this early age to try and make sense of the words that these people are saying. That's how he was and will always will be.
To the sound of chopping wood Kongane fluttered his eyes opened and looked around, still trying to make sense of the words that the villagers are saying. He could hear the man who was carrying him all around the village saying something to him. The man would stop from time to time at the places that Kongane showed great interest and would talk nonstop with a gentle smile on his face. Kongane understood that the man was explaining to him what was what and he got excited. So he intensely listened to the man's words trying to make some sense of it and guess what? He succeeded. Yes it will take sometime but if this uncle keeps explaining to him what is what he may be able to understand the language much faster than trying to understand on his own.
That's how the pair of man and baby spend the whole feast. With Hoshino explaining and Kongane learning. When it was time for the feast to end Kongane's parents took him and Hoshino to there house to sleep. Kongane was already sleepy for using his little brain all this time so he felt asleep as soon as he understood that the feast was over. He learned many things today. Let's just hope that tomorrow will be as fruit as well.
