It was midnight. Kole woke up and looked out the window. There was a beautiful full moon, but he also saw something else. He saw his stepfather. "D-Dad?" Kole said. Kole ran to the window, and his stepfather said, "I'm sorry Kole. I couldn't stay alive to help you." Then there was a white light. It sent Kole's stepfather away, and he saw a fox.
The fox was wearing a mask and he had white glowing eyes. The fox looked directly at Kole, and Kole ran back to the mat where Blacksmith was. A second later, the fox was in front of Kole. Kole stared right into the fox's eyes and saw himself with a mask and glowing eyes. The fox said, "You're one of us. Go to the plains. You have been invited to a magic school. I hope to see you soon."
Then the fox dissapeared. Kole was wide eyed. "I... want to go!" Kole thought.
In the morning, Kole and Blacksmith's family sat at the table eating fresh meat. Kole said, "I... I'm going to the plains today." Penelope shouted, "Are you insane!? The locals there are crazy! "One day a cheetah of the gods will be among us." They ALWAYS say that when I ask for a regular class!"
Rune said, "He should go. He's probably just like his mom." Opal growled at Rune and grumbled, "You're one to talk." Hawk said, "Are you sure dude? I mean... the people over there are kinda... insane." Kole said, "T-This is my decision." Blacksmith stood up and said, "I'm going with you." Penelope said, "B-But Blacksmith!" Blacksmith said, "It's alright mom. I'll be ok."
Rune turned to Kole and said, "This is your fault! I bet you used magic to-" Blacksmith said, "This is my decision. I was already getting ready to tell you that I want to move." Rune grumbled and ran out of the door. Opal said, "That prick... Penelope you mated with a madman." Penelope stayed silent. Then she said, "I wish you luck for both of you. Now get out of here and make new memories!"
Blacksmith said, "C'mon Kole!" Kole said, "N-now? B-but-" Blacksmith said, "It will be ok. I'm here to protect you." Kole looked out the door and said, "Ok!"
After hours of walking, Kole and Blacksmith made it to the border between the savanna and the plains. Kole said, "Wow... the plains are so pretty..." Blacksmith said, "Let's go." And they started their journey. During the walk, Kole said, "Hey Blacksmith... I saw my stepfather last night... but he's gone..." Blacksmith said, "It was possibly in your dream."
Kole said, "Maybe... but then I saw a fox with a mask and glowing eyes..." Blacksmith stopped and said, "You saw a Soul Snatcher!? That's dangerous! They can just... take your soul and boom! You're dead!" Kole nervously said, "Yeah... haha. My momma told me to be careful around them. She says that they're anomalies that shouldn't exist."
Blacksmith said, "You got that right. They are evil." Kole looked down at his paws and said, "Yeah... they're evil..." Then they continued walking, with Kole silently crying in the back.
When Kole and Blacksmith got to a town, a ball of water flew by their faces. They heard a voice say, "Sorry!" Kole looked at the direction the waterball came from and saw a grey and white fluffy fox kit.
Blacksmith said, "It's ok. Just be more careful." Then the kit quickly walked to a den. Blacksmith said, "I'm going to find a place for us to stay. Go ahead and explore a little." Kole said, "Ok!" And he walked off, looking for the school.
