Cindy got out of the car and ran inside the hospital. In front of her mother's room she saw doctor Dr.Albert talking to a nurse. Cindy hurried to him.
Cindy: Doctor what happened to my mother? Is she alright?
Every single second felt like a year to her. She only had her mother to cry to.
Dr. Albert: Miss Anderson, I'm afraid she doesn't have much time. You should meet her.
Cindy's eyes widened from shock, she couldn't believe what she just heard. 'Mom was fine few days back'.
Cindy's eyes filled with tears, "What do you mean she doesn't have time!"
Matthew hold her shoulder tightly to console her and asked Dr. Albert, "What happened doctor? She was alright few days back right?"
Dr.Albert: We did see some recovery but last night her health started deteriorating. We are trying our best but it's not working.
Cindy clasped Matthew's arm tightly and held her tears.
Cindy: Can I see her now?
Dr.Albert: Yes you can.
Cindy walked into the room Matthew still holding her. The walls didn't seem so grey before, as if the surrounding itself said she is gonna lose something precious. On the bed Mrs. Anderson was sleeping with oxygen mask on. She is just skin and bone now, her face looked too wrinkled for a 45 years old. Cindy walked to her bed and sat on the stool beside her. She held her mother's skinny hand and kissed lightly as tears filled her eyes.
After a moment.
Cindy: Matthew
Matthew's eye shifted from Mrs.Anderson to her.
Matthew: Hmm?
Cindy: Ask Charles to bring Owen and Olivia here and...
She stopped for a moment and looked at Mrs.Anderson's face.
Matthew: And?
Cindy: Call Aunt Carla and tell her about Mom's health. Her number is in my phone.
She passed her phone to Matthew and he gave a heavy sigh.
Matthew: Alright.
He left the room leaving mother and daughter alone.
Cindy rubbed the tears from her eyes and rested her head on Mrs.Anderson's hand.
Cindy whispered, "Mom..." her voice cracked.
She continued, "I knew you had to leave someday just like dad but..." she didn't wanna breakdown, she knew her mom is hearing everything. She continued, "But why are you leaving so soon too? Why do you wanna go back to dad leaving me here all alone? You didn't even see Owen and Olivia going to highschool yet.." She took a deep breathe, "Who am I going to share my feelings with? I don't wanna make it about me but... but I'm nothing without you mom."
Meanwhile, Matthew called Charles to bring Owen and Olivia as soon as possible then dialed Mrs.Robinson's number.
Matthew: Hello, is this Mrs.Robinson's number?
Mrs.Robinson: yes? You are..?
Matthew: I'm Matthew Smith, Cindy's friend. Mrs.Anderson is very sick so Cindy asked me to call you to come to hospital.
Mrs.Robinson's eyes widened,"WHAT!? WHICH HOSPITAL WE'RE COMING."
Matthew: Neuro hospital.
Mrs.Robinson:okay
Matthew hung up the phone and went to Cindy, he heard her talking so he didn't go in.
Cindy: Mom.. I met Alex yesterday. He is still as wonderful as he was 8 years back. He asked me about you, he still cares for you even if he cheated on me.
Cindy brokedown, tears streamed down her face.
Cindy: I still can't believe I think of him after 8 years. I have Olivia and Owen now even though I don't know who their father is. When will I move on mom?
Matthew sighed amd went inside the room. He put his hand on Cindy's shoulder to ease her.
Matthew: It's okay... don't cry.
