Stella got out of bed and went to the window. As she approached, Stella thought she saw something move in the moonlight. She opened the window and stared at the spot she had seen the shadow, then looked all around.
She then shook her head, "Probably imagined it." Stella said as a gust of wind came in from the window.
She smiled as the spring air brought in the scent of fresh flowers. She climbed on the windowsill and sat down, one leg dangling outside and one resting on the floor of her room. Then she proceeded to do her favourite pastime, staring at the moon.
Stella had always loved the moon. She had never really been a great sleeper and the moon seemed to be her only companion in the still night. She talked for some time to the moon when she abruptly turned her head towards a particular spot where the clearing ended. She could have sworn this time that something moved there.
Stella stared for a long time at the spot before she pinched her eyebrows, "Probably going crazy. That's the only thing left in the list."
"What list?" A sudden voice shocked Stella to the core. She yelled and lost her balance.
Stella would have had some more injuries added to herself had Simon, who had god knows when sat on the windowsill beside her, not caught her waist as she fell and pulled her in with ease.
"You're a hazard to yourself." Simon muttered as he set Stella on the floor of her room like a doll.
"Only when someone scares the living daylights out of me!!!" Stella shrieked.
Simon chuckled, "I'm sorry. I was just curious, what list?"
Stella rolled her eyes, "The list of stories that crazy people tell that nobody believes and are taken as a joke."
"Oh! Like vampires? Staying with a vampire? A vampire doctor? And a famous actor who is a vampire?" Simon counted on his fingers.
"Yeah and also how you guys can live for hundreds of years." Stella put a finger under her chin and then smiled brightly, "That about covers it."
Simon laughed aloud, "You are one of a kind. Why are you not asleep?" He asked, springing up and landing lightly in Stella's room.
Stella pouted, "Can't sleep. What about you?" Then remembering important things, she asked, "Did you see what was moving around right now?"
Simon: "Not really. How can one see himself?"
Stella's eyes widened, "What the hell!?!? Why were you lurking around like a creep?"
Simon clutched at his heart, "You don't have to say it like that. I came here to see you were fine."
Stella rolled her eyes, "Now that the knight in shining armour is here, the Cinderella story is complete."
Simon sat on her bed, "Happy to be of service."
Stella: "Okay back to topic, why aren't you asleep?"
Simon suddenly looked melancholy. He looked into the distance and said, "I've not had a wink of sleep for a century. Even before that I could only take naps ever since I can remember."
"You guys don't need to sleep!!!!?????" Stella's eyes widened.
Simon shrugged, "We can function just fine without it. Our body doesn't necessarily need it. But it's nice to have."
