Simon's dad, Leopold Gurksy, had been a turned vampire. Though his transition had not gone that smoothly and there were some periods when he lost himself and almost became an animal, he kept that part of himself in check most of the times purely with his will.
Leopold met Simon's mom, Laurel Nest while he still did not know what he had become and was wandering the forests where he had been turned. Laurel explained what he had become and Leopold swore to take revenge on the ones that did this to him.
He was a very righteous vampire, only surviving on animal blood though that style of living was not at all welcomed four centuries ago. But Leopold persisted. He got his revenge on the ones who had been trying to create an army by turning humans and freed the ones who had completed the transition successfully and removed the ones whose transitions had gone wrong, as they were a hazard to society.
After he had done that, Leopold returned to Laurel and declared his love for her. Laurel showed him the soulbond mark that had appeared on her and explained what it was.
The two married and began to live in the village where Leopold used to live before he was turned, which had been completely destroyed by the vampires looking to create an army. They both lived without feeding on human blood and had a beautiful kid named Simon.
Simon adopted the same lifestyle as his parents, never even thinking about drinking human blood. But he seemed like he had no purpose in life. Simon continued to grow more beautiful and strong but he never seemed to be really in the world. He could be considered a manipulator, but he was a very weak one. The best Simon could do was to bind people's bodies and for that he had to be touching them too.
So Simon grew up like this, without ever meeting any other of his own kind. Until one day, when his father was taken over and had wandered into the nearby forest. Laurel sent Simon to look for his dad as it had gotten quite late and he should have been back by now. Simon went into the forest, and was horrified by the sight that welcomed him.
His father was sprawled on his back, his arms and legs stretched out as if trying to protect something. Simon could not see any real wound on his dad's body, but he could see two vampires bending over his body.
Simon was about to attack them when one of them stooped down on his knees and closed Leopold's eyes, murmuring a prayer. After he was done, he stood up and said, "It really is a pity. Though not perfectly transited, this one was surely a very great soul."
"It looks like he still had compassion for humans, trying to protect them from us." The other said.
"We all should stand by each other. Humans, are not to be trusted. They shot their very own savior, thinking that he was some kind of monster." The first one sounded mournful.
"They fear anything and everything unknown to them." The second one said in a grave voice.
