Chapter 3 - A duel filled with chuckles

"Zi Zhen… is it possible to fall in love with a person immediately?" Zi Zhen spat out his water and glared at Yue Yang.

"Huh? Don't tell me you already like that prince that much! It's barely been a day!" Yue Yang bit his lip and looked away.

"I didn't mean it seriously!" Yue Yang let a wisp of magic fly around the room. He remembered he had challenged Bi Zhen to a duel. Should he go all out? Or… should he let the other boy win. Fortunately for us, Yue Yang still had a bit of pride in him so… he decided, he was going to go all out. His brother had often teased him that he would never be able to find a wife as he always put his cultivation skills first. It seems as though Yue Yang had fallen quite hard for our little wine haired boy, he still wouldn't go easy on him.

Bi Zhen trekked to the forest clearing with a light smile on his face. He tucked a lock of hair behind his ear and pulled part of his long hair up into a simple bun. He entered the forest clearing and grinned when he noticed Yue Yang was already there, polishing his sword. This sword was of course no plain boring sword. It was stronger than most average swords, holding weight when flying almost twice as much as a normal sword and… it could also transfigure into another weapon on command by its wielder. It… was a special phoenix treasure.

Bi Zhen plopped down on the ground and looked up at Yue Yang.

"Gege! Are you ready?" Yue Yang smirked.

"Have you even polished your weapon?" Bi Zhen nodded. Yue Yang frowned. Bi Zhen didn't have any weapon on him.

He sat looking innocently at Yue Yang.

"Is Gege suspicious?"

"Yes…" Yue Yang stood up and he placed his sword back in its sheath.

"I'm not lying. Mhm." Bi Zhen shrugged. Yue Yang's ego was catching up with his attraction. Was this idiot belittling him?

"I don't appreciate you belittling Gege." Yue Yang mumbled and he gave Bi Zhen a cold glare. Bi Zhen cocked his head to the side as his warm smile fell off.

He stood up and his voice dropped an octave lower.

"I'm sorry Gege but…" Bi Zhen's eyes flashed open a malicious purple.

"But I believe you're the one underestimating me." A sharp knife was thrown and it whizzed past Yue Yang's, slicing his sleeve in the process. Yue Yang momentarily blinked. The first thought in his mind, holy hell, Bi Zhen was goddamn hot.

Yue Yang looked genuinely shocked for a second before he let himself float up in the air and he spun, chucking his sword at Bi Zhen. His eyes glowed slightly and he whispered something under his breath. The sword transfigured to a whip and it trapped Bi Zhen in his place. Bi Zhen had an unamused expression on his face but his eyes began to brighten. This was… the legendary phoenix sword… HuoHen 火恨! Fire's hate was one of the phoenixs' greatest treasures. Bi Zhen had only ever heard of the sword but he had never seen it in action. Though he was bound by it, he nonchalantly moved his restrained hand to touch the hilt of the sword. It was indeed beautiful. Bi Zhen looked like a child in a dream. Yue Yang couldn't help but drop his guard. Bi Zhen was… cute…

Bi Zhen quickly glanced at Yue Yang's face. He noticed the ferocious look from earlier was gone. Bi Zhen smirked and from his be arms, a strange purple some seemed to form. Yue Yang returned to his senses and he quickly grabbed his sword as it whizzed back to him.

"Gege, for a top cultivator, your skills are rather… disappointing…" Bi Zhen had a malicious grin on his face. Then, HuoHen flew towards him, almost cutting his face. Bi Zhen's eyes widened and he leapt back. His eyes gleaned and he smirked. Game time!

Bi Zhen dodged the attack quickly and he raised his hand. Yue Yang was held back by a barrier. He tch-ed and the two continued to fight.

"Shall we settle this the usual way?" Yue Yang laughed and he dodged another if Bi Zhen's sneaky attacks. The blazing dagger hit a tree behind and it was immediately set ablaze.

"Because you know you will win that way right? Not a chance." Bi Zhen twirled in the air and he landed a pretty harsh blow on Yue Yang's shoulder. Or at least he thought.

Yue Yang smiled as he held Bi Zhen's blade in his hand. Bi Zhen blinked. Huh?!

"I said we should fight it out the usual way so you would get a chance mhm…" The dagger somehow exploded in Bi Zhen's face and his hands suddenly felt hot. Yue Yang quickly covered Bi Zhen's eyes so there was no bit of the shattered dagger would go into his eye. Bi Zhen quickly moved back, slightly offended. Yue Yang laughed again. Bi Zhen was pouting.

Bi Zhen wordlessly manifested a scimitar and lunged it straight at Yue Yang. Yue Yang hummed. He could see Bi Zhen's little obsession with sharp knives. Cute. Yue Yang let out another chuckle.

Bi Zhen was slightly confused. What was so funny?

"Boo!" Bi Zhen yelped as he got tapped on the neck with HuoHen. The duel was over.

Once the opponent touched the neck, the opponent had won.

Why the neck?

In a battle, there were two ways to ensure a person was dead. No. 1, slice their aorta. No. 2, behead them.

Now… cutting the aorta would have seemed so much easier, simpler, a lot less if a hassle but… what use would that be if the enemy wore a tough breast plate? Soldiers didn't usually wear neck armour. It would be difficult to move and one might snap his own neck due to it.

Bi Zhen's breath hitched and he sighed.

"I never said I was stronger than you…" Bi Zhen's stretched and he floated back to the ground.

"Mhm…" Yue Yang chuckled again. Bi Zhen was pissed.

"Gege! What is so funny? Is my fighting style odd?!" Bi Zhen complained. Yue Yang shrugged his shoulders before he breathed out a sigh.

"No… it's just fun to duel against you!"
