Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: The Next Fight

It has been a few days since Qrow came and rescued Topaz from the Schnee Dust Company gala. Since then, Qrow and Topaz stopped by a small town that had a blacksmith that Qrow had met while on a mission a while ago. From that blacksmith Qrow had a simple ax made for Topaz as he had stated that, that was the style of weapon he was most comfortable with. After receiving the ax, Qrow trained Topaz on proper fighting form, and the best ways for the ax to be used against the creatures of grimm.

Qrow: "Now remember kid, when attacking it's best not to over-extend your reach. When you do it leaves you vulnerable to attacks from all parties. Grimm won't take that opening like another person will, but if they do attack when you are exposed it will only spell trouble for you."

Topaz nods to confirm he heard what Qrow said, then goes back to the training Qrow has him doing. After about an hour of the same motions, Qrow finally has Topaz stop, leaving him tired and hungry.

Qrow: "Alright kid, your form is looking much better. Now come here and grab some grub. We will begin heading out as soon as you're done."

Topaz: "Sure Qrow! I'm starving."

Making his way over to Qrow, Topaz sits down and grabs some food, quickly eating his share and then packing up his gear. Once he is completely packed, he makes his way to Qrow who is sitting on the edge of camp staring out into the sky.

Topaz: "Remnant to Qrow, anyone home?"

Qrow: "Hey Topaz, you ready to go?"

Topaz: "Yep, ready when you are."

Qrow: "Alright then, follow me."

Qrow turns and begins running with Topaz in tow. Along the way, Qrow would give Topaz advice on how to properly be a huntsman and life in general.

Qrow: "One must always be vigilant when out in the field with how dangerous the grimm are. Probably the greatest advice I can give you for life though, if a woman ever tells you everything is fine, everything is most definitely not fine. Tread cautiously whenever that is said."

Topaz: "If you say so Qrow."

Topaz can only shake his head at Qrow's usual antics. Traveling for a few more hours, Qrow and Topaz arrive at a small village. The village is surrounded by a small wooden fence, walking up to the gate to enter the village, Qrow and Topaz are stopped by the guard standing there.

Guard: "Halt! I'm sorry, but I cannot allow outsiders to enter the village without specifying a reason."

Qrow: "Hi there, I'm a professional huntsman, and this is Topaz, my apprentice. We are just passing through and stopped here to restock some supplies."

Guard: "You're a huntsman? Ok, give me a second, I need to speak with the village head for a moment. There is a matter that we might need your help with."

The guard enters the gate to go and see the village head and a different guard takes his place. After ten minutes of waiting, the guard returns with an older man. The guard shows the old man to Qrow and Topaz and introduces everyone.

Guard: "Village Head Stan, this is the huntsman and his apprentice that I told you about."

The old man the guard referred to as Stan gives Qrow a quick look over before nodding his head, then turns towards Topaz.

Village Head Stan: "You boy, what is a child such as yourself doing out with a huntsman?"

Topaz: "Sir, I was kidnapped from my school a while ago and Qrow here is responsible for me being able to get away. And as we are making our way back home, he is teaching me the things I should know as to how a huntsman acts."

Village Head Stan: "Not the answer I was expecting, but alright. We have had an issue with a geist for a few months now, and would like to request your help huntsman."

Qrow: "What kind of issue, and where at?"

Village Head Stan: "A few months ago a geist appeared in the area. We've dealt with them in the past so we didn't think anything of it at the time. I had sent out a hunting party to bring it down but they didn't return. After waiting a couple of weeks for them, I sent out another hunting party to look for either them or the geist. They returned a few days later with the bodies. I don't think I have ever seen bodies in such a state. Multiple slash wounds everywhere imaginable and eyes frozen with horror from whatever they saw. The second hunting party then set out once again to try and find the geist. They were back not even a three days later. They recounted their encounter to me and I was horrified. The geist has collected a large number of weapons and is using them to host itself. The hunters told a story of a ten-foot-tall creature made of swords and spears."

Qrow: "So let me get this straight, the geist that is causing your village so much trouble is using the weapons of those it's killed to make a body for itself?"

Village Head Stan: "Precisely."

Qrow: "I'm going to need a drink after this."

Qrow and the village head continued to speak for a while longer while Topaz looked out into the forest, keeping an eye out for anything out of place. A slight glimmer in one of the bushes catches his eyes so he draws his ax and motions for Qrow and everyone else to remain silent. Slowly making his way towards the bush he saw the glimmer from, with each passing step the sound of metal grinding on metal becomes more distinct. Focusing his aura into his senses, Topaz notices the overwhelming scent of metal, and blood. Just as Topaz turns to call out to Qrow, and large bladed hand comes flying out of the bush catching Topaz full into the chest.

Qrow: "Topaz!"

Village Head Stan and Guards: "It's the geist! Run for your lives!"

Qrow rushes to Topaz's side to see the damage only to see Topaz lying down, shirt shredded but not a scratch on him.

Qrow: "Kid are you ok?"

Topaz: "Yeah, I think so, just a little winded from the hit. How bad is it?"

Qrow: "That's the thing, no matter how blunt a weapon that geist might have, there's no way a hit like that wouldn't break the skin, even with your aura. Yet, you don't have a single scratch on you."

Topaz looks down at his chest to see that Qrow is right, but not only did Topaz not have a single scratch, aside from the torn shirt, there isn't anything showing that Topaz took a heavy hit. Topaz gets back to his feet, grabs his ax from the dirt, and enters the combat stance drilled into him. Before Qrow call yell at him to stop, Topaz rushes towards the geist, parrying and dodging the incoming attacks. When get gets close enough, he slashes horizontally towards the geist to see how it will react when put on the defensive. Much to the surprise of Topaz and Qrow, the geist makes no effort to block his attach, and several swords are knocked loose from the point of impact. While Topaz has the attention of the geist, Qrow lunges into battle and is able to chop of its right arm. The geist cries out in pain, turns towards Qrow and uses its other arm to launch spears and swords towards Qrow and a very high velocity. Qrow prepares himself to block what he can as he focuses his aura on an increased defense, but before any blades arrive, Topaz jumps in front of him and proceeds to block what he can and get hit from everything else.

Topaz: "Phew, I am glad my theory was right ha ha, or that could have been very bad."

Qrow: "Kid, why would you do something so stupidly reckless?!"

Topaz: "Qrow, have you read any old mythology?"

Qrow: "It's been a while, but yeah, I have. Why?"

Topaz: "After taking that hit earlier, a suddenly found myself remembering the old tale of the Nemean Lion, whose hide was so thick that nothing could penetrate it. And that got me thinking, what if that's the kind of lion faunus that I am?"

Qrow: "So you jumped in front of a life-threatening attack, on a hunch?"

Topaz: "Yep."

Qrow: "And people call me crazy."

Shaking his head at Topaz's antics, Qrow dodges an attack from a furious geist. And knocks some more blades loose. Topaz and Qrow both lunge for the geist and hit it square in the chest, causing the remaining blades to fall to the ground, releasing the geist to the outside world. Qrow aims his weapon and fires a single shot into the head of the geist, turning it into a black mist. Qrow and Topaz begin making their way towards the village, where dozens of people can be seen lining the wall cheering that the menace that has plagued their village for months, has been defeated.
