I knock on the door again. There was still no answer. The nerve of this guy. I was in the second tower the Woods Company had and the CEO of this building wasn't answering his door. I push it open and peak my head in. "Sorry for intruding sir but-"
Up against the wall was a small bed and the guy was curled up on it. I walk over to him and I shake his shoulder. Papers were scattered everywhere. I shake his shoulder again but harder. His eyes spring open and he sits up quickly. "How long were you standing there?" He asks as he gets up.
Papers fluttered off his lap and onto the floor. "Only a few seconds ago, sir." I answer.
Alexander looks around the room before he sighs. "This wasn't a really good meeting on your first day here." He chuckles before he sighs again.
He crouches down and starts to gather the papers together. I slowly get down onto my knees and I go to help him but he blocks me. "You don't need to help me dear but thank you anyway."
Alexander looks over at me, blue eyes flashing. I get back onto my feet and I fix my skirt. "What would you like me to do for you today?" I ask.
He gets up from the floor and meets my gaze. "Answer the phone for meetings is all. Your desk is right over there." He points his chin to the other side of the room. "But I don't get a lot of calls lately. It's mostly my father who is busy. So, if we get bored-" he pauses before he shrugs, "I have no clue to what we should do."
Alexander was right. He got one meeting and it lasted only ten minutes. "We can make a tower out of the paper packages." I suggest as I move over to his desk.
He looks over at me before he rises from his chair. "Alright. I will help as long as I get to knock it down."
"Deal."
. . .
"Careful Alexander!" I shout.
The tower starts to lean to the left but he quickly fixes it. "If you keep yelling at me it's going to fall." He complains. He steps off his chair and then hops off the desk. "Look at it. Best tower ever."
"I found your bike helmet and some bubble wrap." I say, turning around to look at him.
I slowly start to wrap him up. Using as much tape as possible. I move down, swinging the bubble wrap around his legs. I pull on it tightly and he gasps. "It's a little tight in the no-no area." He says.
"Sorry." I mutter.
I quickly finish it off and I toss the tape and bubble wrap roll away. "Here is your trusty helmet."
He was grinning from ear to ear, dimples on for show. I take a few steps back and watch as he moves to the door before bolting over at the tower. He throws himself at it and it comes tumbling down on him. I burst out laughing as I hurry over to him. I grab his arm and drag him out from the paper pile. Some of the packages ripped and paper had spilled out. "Are. . .you okay?" I ask, gasping for air.
I sit down on the floor, making sure I wasn't going to flash him. Alexander sits up and turns to me. "That was amazing."
He then joins in with my laughing. He grabs onto my arm as he takes in a sharp breath of air.
. . .
I watch as my son throws himself into the tower of the packages of paper. His new receptionist was on the floor laughing. "I want you to get me as much information as you can on Madison Fox."
"Of course, sir." Mary says before heading down the hall.
I narrow my eyes slightly before I follow after her.
. . .
I fix his shirt before I start to move over to my desk. "Madison, wait. I want to ask you something."
I stop and turn. "What is it?"
"I was wondering if I can take you out on a date. I know we barely know one another but-" he breathes in heavily. "I have taken a liking to you and I want to know more about you."
"Oh." I look down at the floor for a second before meeting his eyes. "Yes, I'll go on a date with you."
His smile widens. "And you don't have to call me Alexander. Alex is fine."
"Sounds good."
I hear a knock and I jump. "Come in." Alex calls.
I move over to my desk and watch as Zane Woods walks in. "I want to speak with you alone. Leave Fox." His eyes narrow as he stares at me.
I get up and hurry out, my heart hammering. "Madison, can you stop by the coffee shop and get me a coffee. Black with sugar and cream." I hear Alex tell me.
He moves over to me and hands me some money. I take a step back before heading to the elevator. When the doors open the two ladies from before walk out. "Hello. Fancy meeting you here." The blonde says.
"Interesssting indeed." Brown haired girl says.
They step around me before heading for the office. I got inside and hit L2.
. . .
I come back to the office balancing two coffees in a coaster on one arm and all my other stuff on the other. I nudge the door open with my elbow. All the curtains were closed and I could hear whimpering. "Alexander?" I call.
I set the coffees on my desk and then let my stuff slide down onto the floor. I go over to his private bathroom to find him on the floor. The whitest wings I ever saw were on his back. One wing was crooked and bent in a weird shape. "Alex?"
He whips around and stares at me. "Madison, what are you doing here?" His words come out harshly.
"It only takes twenty minutes to get coffees." I tell him. "What-what are you?"
He gets up slowly and grabs onto my arms tightly. The left wing moves to cover his body while the other just sticks out. "Can you keep a secret?"
"Y-yeah." I stamper.
His grip on my arms tighten and he pushes me out of the bathroom. Alex steers me over to the sitting area and shoves me onto a chair. He perches on the edge of the couch, clasping his hands together. "You aren't going to believe me but I'm an angel. My father is the devil Lucifer. Lilith was my mother but she's no longer with us."
I stare at him, my mouth forming into an O. "I-I do believe you Alexander. You have some proof right in front of me." I run a hand through my hair before I sigh. "Is Alexander even your real name?"
"Yes, it is. No one knows I exist so I am safe to use it." Alex gives me a reassuring smile. "I didn't want you to find out this way or find out at all. The last person I did caused this whole issue." He nods his chin to his broken wing. "I had to kill her at the end of it all."
"I thought angels were meant to be really kind creatures?" I say as I get up from my seat.
"You would think that." Alex gets up and steps closer to me. "Madison, you can't tell anyone what you are seeing. I don't want it to be my fault that you greet death so soon."
"I won't tell anyone, I promise. Your secret is safe with me and your dads." I tell him.
Alexander huffs out a sigh before saying, "I have to go and tell my father about this and about that date. We have to cancel it. Something came up."
"Oh, alright. I understand. Maybe some other time?" I cringe against the hope that laced my words.
"Sunday night at six?" He asks.
"That can work."
Alex leans closer to me and I thought he was going to kiss me but he just brushes his lips against my cheek. "I'll be back in about twenty minutes."
He presses his lips against my cheek before he leaves. "A-" I stop as I watch his wings vanish. He looks over his shoulder at me and smiles.
