Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Peculiar Slumber Party

"So, who is she?" Daniel chirped as he looked at the woman in a fitting leather jacket.

"Who is he?" Another girl who was standing beside Catherine asked.

"Guys, let me introduce all of you. Daniel and Rain, this is Catherine and Rachel. Catherine and Rachel, these two dorks are Daniel and Rain, they're art geeks" Laurens introduced.

"We are not dorks!" The two boys exclaimed.

All week, Laurens has been interacting more and more with the people around him. He made quite a few friends, and he later found out that Catherine confessed to a girl and she got dumped but they became friends, so it was kind of okay. That girl was Rachel.

Laurens wanted to find a way to introduce his friends together so they can be one group of friends, so he invited all of them to a slumber party. It was Friday night and everybody was sleeping over at Laurens' house.

Daniel, Rain, Catherine and Rachel, were all present in their pajamas. Jace wore a red and black plaid pajamas and a tank top, while Laurens wore a Perry the platypus onesie.

With pajamas worn, it was time to begin the sleepover. First on the list was truth or dare with snacks. Laurens placed the chips and dip in front of everyone so it was fair for all, as he sat down on the carpet beside Jace.

The group played truth or dare, charades and kiss, marry and kill. There was a round where the choices where Daniel, Jace and Rain for the kiss, marry and kill game.

Laurens answered with, "I'd kiss Rain, marry Jace, and slaughter Daniel. I'm still holding a grudge from last Monday" as Laurens gave him the "I'm watching you" stare.

Everyone had a blast and was getting along well, it was a start of a fun night. As the games continued, everyone got bored easily and ended up talking about strategies for fights and killer moves which Laurens adapted naturally. Although their topics were strange, none of it was out place, I mean this was Hazard. But as the night moved on, so did the party, the groups eventually settled themselves by watching a movie marathon and decided to choose Disney for some reason.

"You know, in the brothers grim version of Cinderella, her two sisters actually cut off a part of their feet just so they can fit the shoe. It was hella creepy" Rain stated.

"Hey, look! I'm the fairy godmother" Daniel said gaining everyone attention.

He pointed his finger on the bowl of chips and gestured it to come to him, as the bowl of chips began to float towards Daniel... much to Laurens' surprise.

"Kugh! W-what?!" Laurens exclaimed choking on his food.

"You okay, Laurens? You've been choking a lot, lately" Jace said as he patted Laurens' back.

"The bowl is friggin' floating!" Laurens exclaimed pointing at the floating bowl of chips.

"And?" Jace asked as if it was normal.

"That's not normal! Objects don't float in the air!"

"But there's airplanes and balloons, leaves, feathers-" Jace replied

"That's not what I mean... Is this 'normal' to you?" Laurens cut off as he hesitantly sat himself back down properly.

"If you're asking if this is what I regularly see everyday then yes. And no, I do not have any brain issues" Asked Jace.

"But you're a psychopath and this is extremely peculiar..." Laurens stopped in the middle of his sentence after realizing something while Jace smirked knowingly.

Daniel, Rain, Jace, Catherine and Rachel are all 'peculiar' students, while Laurens was a 'normal' student. Does being a 'peculiar' student have another meaning? Laurens wasn't sure about his hypothesis but he was going to experiment.

"If Daniel can make a stagnant object fly without touching it, can you also do that, Jace?" Laurens asked, his eyes filled with curiosity.

"Nope, telekinesis is a rare power. Only a few can do that, but I can do this" Jace snapped his finger and another arm grew from his side.

"Fascinating" Laurens commented, as he tried holding Jace's extra limb.

"Ew! Jace put that away, it's so creepy watching an odd number of limbs, at least make two hands grow so it'll be even" Catherine stated as Jace withdrew his third arm.

"Do you have any special powers, Laurens?" Rachel asked.

Laurens pursed his lips and said, "I'm actually a 'normal' student".

An awkward silence enveloped the room, only Jace's noisy chewing could be heard.

"...We are screwed" Rain stated as he broke the silence.

"I can tell from your reaction that the existence of your powers is similar to a top secret information?" Laurens stated in a knowing but questioning tone.

"Yes, 'normal' students are not suppose to know it. But I don't think it's not that big of a deal, someone was bound to mess up anyway, we were just the first ones to do it" Jace commented with no worries whatsoever.

"There should be an indicator for 'normal' students but I haven't seen it on you. It should look like a red pin on your uniform" Rachel stated.

"I was never given an indicator" Laurens replied.

"Well, if you weren't given one then you must be a peculiar. But it's strange that you don't know" Said Rachel.

"Have you ever noticed something weird happening to your body? Excluding puberty, of course" Catherine stated.

"Hmmm, I do have a high tolerance to drugs, and I can empathize with people's emotions randomly" Laurens shrugged.

"That's good! You probably have a power that's related to your mind like Daniel's" Rachel stated pointing at the chip covered man beside her.

"Oohh, looks like we have a mystery on our hands" Daniel excitedly exclaimed.

"Should we try that test here?" Rain asked.

"We definitely should" Catherine replied.

Catherine snapped her fingers and a small pouch appeared in front of her, she opened the pouch and pulled out a big sheet of a crystal like object.

"This, my friend, is my power. It's called 'dimensional pouch' I can summon it whenever I want. The size of space inside is equivalent to the entire continent of Asia" Catherin proudly exclaimed.

"That's so cool, but what's that thing you're holding?" Said Laurens pointing at the thin sheet of crystal like object.

"This is is called a power gauge, it measures how powerful we mutants are and it also identifies what kind of power you have. Side note, we call ourselves as mutants but in this school we are identified as 'peculiar' students" Lectured Catherine.

"I see, so you will identify my power, right?" Laurens cleared.

"Exactly! Now, put you hand on the crystal and let's know what your power is!" Exclaimed excitedly by Catherine.

Laurens did as he was instructed and lowered his palm to the thin crystal, the previously light blue color of the crystal turned slightly orange then straight into pink.

"Paper, stat!" Exclaimed Catherine as she snapped her fingers.

Rain slid a blank piece of paper underneath the crystal sheet and the pink color transferred to the paper. Not soon after, words started showing on the paper.

Everybody gathered around the piece of paper with curious gaze, the suspense was killing them. If the paper remained blank then Laurens would've been a normal human but words started appearing which means that he was a mutant.

"Alchemy, that's not bad" Rachel commented.

"Your power belongs to the level 2 category" Catherine stated.

"That sounds cool, but what does that category thing mean?"

"The Power Category ranks the powers of the mutants, the rare and powerful abilities earn their spot on the level 5 of the ranking, while the more common ones and less powerful are ranked lowest which is level 1. And the more powerful and more rare your power is, the higher it's level on the Power Category" Rachel explained.

"So that means that there are a lot of people that has the same power as me" Laurens stated.

"Correct, by the way. My power is recorded as a level three even though it's actually a level 1 in the power category, that is because the capacity of my pouch is colossal" Catherine proudly proclaimed.

"Wow! Catherine, that's so awesome!" Excitedly Laurens exclaimed.

"Hah! That's nothing, I'm a level four ranker" Daniel suddenly exclaimed.

"You are?!" Laurens sparkled in delight as he looked at Daniel in respect.

"Hey, hey! Don't get too excited, or else we'll get found out. Why don't we all go to sleep and find out more tomorrow, I'm already so tired" Rain stated as he yawned with his droopy eyes slowly closing to sleep.

Everyone stared at the already snoring Rain and chatted more quietly, they talked until morning and passed out while doing so. Thus the end of the sleepover.
