Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Library

It was in the middle of class, a week has passed by, and Laurens was sitting in his seat during lunch break. A student called for his name and Jace's, the student said that their class advisor was calling for them. So with a curious look, the dou stood up and met with the teacher.

"I want you two to manage the Library this week"

Laurens and Jace was surprised at the sudden request, they had only entered the staff room and the teacher was already staring at them with a solemn face.

"Don't worry, it's only for this week. I've been observing you two and I have yet to find any record of any agressive behaviour. So, I'm trusting you to manage that place properly until the librarian comes back" the teacher stated.

"Okay, but what's in it for us?" Jace questioned. He wasn't gonna work with no pay, there has to be a catch.

"If you manage the library this week, I'll give you 10 adittional points in your grade and a platinum dessert card for the cafeteria" He stated calmly, he looked like he was used to this kind of situations.

"Quite the generous offer, but I think it's lacking" Jace stated trying to get more free things.

"I guess no platinum ca-"

"I'm sorry, sir. We'll immediately go there after school and clean the place spotless!" Jace saluted before running away in a sweat while dragging Laurens with him. He almost lost a great deal there.

"Damn brat"

Later that day, Jace and Laurens journeyed to find the library which was only across their school building. Nevertheless, it felt like an adventure because Jace had a terrible sense of direction which left Laurens to figure out where the library was and surprise-surprise, it was in front of them.

"I'll lead the way next time" Laurens said rasing a brow to which Jace nervously chuckled.

The library had an automatic sliding door and it was air-conditioned inside. It had a relaxing ambiance and a glorious victorian decor, the rows of shelves were filled with books. It was a wonderland for bookworms.

Jace and Laurens headed to the circulation desk where Mr. Renay, their advisor, was waiting for them to give them their temporary librarian I.D. cards.

"You two are late" he stated.

"We got lost" Laurens answered as he eyed Jace.

Mr. Renay raised a brow, he was wondering how they got lost when their school building was literaly across the library but dismissed it anyway as he was running late for a meeting.

"I'm not even gonna ask, anyway, wear this I.D. at all times and don't wander around the library. You can easily get lost" Mr. Renay stated before bidding farewell.

Jace and Laurens wore their I.D. cards and sat behind the circulation desks. Laurens was reading one of the books left on the desk when Jace suddenly bashed his head on the desk.

"What the hell?" Laurens exclaimed as the pain in his forehead became more apparent.

"Sorry, you were gonna get hit by a chair. Seriously, you're like a magnet for chairs" Jace chuckled as a loud clanging emerged from behind them.

The chair had crashed on the wall and fell with a big clang. A fight has started, and Laurens was in a panic to stop them. If there's one thing he knows about this academy, it's that the teachers are more scary than the students.

"Jace we have to stop this, Mr. Renay will punish us" Laurens calmly said but he was panicking inside.

"I couldn't agree more" Jace replied as he blew a whistle.

It was obnoxiously loud, Laurens looked at where Jace got the whistle and it labeled "obnoxious whistle for stopping fights" and as the label suggested, it really did stop the fight. It was so loud that everyone stopped and covered their ears instead.

"God, stop!" Laurens exclaimed as he grabbed the whistle from Jace's hand.

"Everyone, stop fighting, or else he will blow this whistle again. And clean up your mess, you're not little kids anymore!" Laurens announced.

Everyone groaned and complained but obeyed anyway. Some left the library while some continued reading. Jace and Laurens sat back down.

"Wow, you really showed them who's boss" Jace praised.

"Yeah, they didn't find out I was shaking right?" Laurens replied paranoid.

"Nope, I made sure as I held you upright" Jace said assuringly.

Laurens sighed in relief, the only one who knows of his anxieties was Jace. And Jace did a great job at keeping it a secret.

"I'll go check the damage, you just try and relax in the mean time" Jace stood up and went to retrieve the thrown chair.

Unexpectedly, a hole has formed and inside was a big space which made Jace curious.

"Hey, Laurens. Check this out" Jace exclaimed for Laurens to hear.

Laurens turned around and saw the hole on the wall. He was surprised at the damage that he fell from his chair, he crawled towards Jace like a creepy cockroach.

"What the hell is this? First day on the job and it's like this!?" Laurens whispered-yelled.

"Calm down, look inside. There seems to be a room"

"A room?"
