"A room?"
Laurens crawled closer and noticed that the darkness inside was a lot bigger than expected. There really was a room, Jace grabbed a flashlight from one of the desk drawers and went inside the hole.
Inside, were rows of old bookshelves. The books inside the shelves were still made with parchment and the book covers were made with animal skins. It also smelled bad and dusty.
Jace was coughing as he opened one of the books, the writting wasn't in any of the earth's languages. Jace closed the book and returned it to it's former placement. He then went back to Laurens.
The worried Laurens could only see the brightness from Jace's flashlight, he was relieved to see that the light was coming back. He looked at the CCTV monitor to see Mr. Renay approaching the library door, Laurens panicked!
"Jace, hurry. I can see Mr. Renay!" He exclaimed.
Jace bolted back, if Mr. Renay found him inside the mysterious secret room, then he would have to kiss that platinum dessert card goodbye. Luckily, he made out just in time and immediately covered the "crime scene".
As Mr. Renay turned to the corner, everything looked normal. There was no signs of damage, since they covered the hole in the wall with a pretty large desk, and everything seemed peaceful.
"You two are hiding something" Mr. Renay said as he inspected the area.
"Hm? Seem normal to me" Jace, the profecient liar of the dou, replied.
"Exactly, it's normal, peaceful and quiet, too quiet. In this academy, too much of those factors are trouble"
"Really? Does the constant fighting and hair pulling not raise any flags?" Laurens sarcastically replied, which earned him a glare from the teacher.
"Just saying" Laurens muttered while hiding behind his friend.
"Well, whatever it is that you're hiding. Fix it before tomorrow, I'll let you two off with a warning but next time will be much worse. You are dismissed, but make sure to lock the library before leaving." Mr. Renay said as he adjusted his monicle and left.
Jace and Laurens breathed a sigh of relief, after disposing the troublemakers from earlier, Laurens and Jace closed the library.
But they didn't leave, they were curious about why there was a secret room in the library. Perhaps there was an adventure waiting for them inside, or a rotting corpse covered in maggots. Nevertheless, curiousity got the best of them.
And they also needed to fix the hole.
Jace took the flashlight and crawled back to the secret room, while Laurens followed behind him. The rows of shelves that make up the space in the tiny secret room were filled with dusty old books. And in the middle of the room laid one table and one chair.
Laurens looked around as his eyes begin to adjust in the darkness, he went to the table and looked at the papers stacked neatly on top of it. Laurens wondered how those papers look suspiciously new, if it had been there for a long time then it would have started to turn yellow-ish but it was still white in color and no dust. That's when Laurens realised.
"Jace, we have to go" Laurens whispered to his friend.
"What?" Jace turned confused as he put away the book he was trying to read.
"There's someone in here, we could get in trouble if we're caught" Laurens whispered as he tried to pull Jace back into the hole.
Jace sighed and looked at Laurens' failed attempt to move him and just willingly let himself be dragged back. Although Jace was curious about the unreadable writting, he had to prioritize his friend.
"Well, well, well. What do we have here?"
Laurens and Jace got out of the hole only to see someone flashing a bright light towards them. Just as their eyes adjusted they saw an-
"An elf?" Laurens stated shocked as he looked at the person's pointed ears.
Unlike the elves that video games or movies portray, the elf's ear was not as long. It just looked like regular human ears but pointed, also it was a he.
"What are humans doing here late at night?" Someone else commented, it sounded like a woman.
"Two elves?!" Exclaimed Jace.
One of the elves grabbed Jaces mouth and pushed him down while the surprised Laurens held his hands up signaling that he means no harm.
"Quiet! This is the reason why we don't enteract with humans" the elf complained.
"Listen, we don't want to hurt you. So we'll let you go in under one condition" the female elf announced.
"What's the condition?" Laurens asked.
"We cut off your tongues" said the male elf as he brought put his knife with a twisted grin. Laurens and Jace were scared shitless.
"Don't mess with them" the female elf said grabbing the male elf's knife. Jace and Laurens breathed a sigh of relief.
"Hahahaha! Your reactions are priceless" the male elf laughed as he let Jace go while the female elf turned on the lights.
"Sorry, we love pranking humans as you can probably tell" female elf mentioned as she helped Jace stand up.
"Right" Laurens replied, he was still shaking from all the adrenaline.
"We would like you to keep our existence a secret" the male elf said solemnly.
Jace and Laurens looked at each other and shrugged, it was like they were reading each other's minds. But facing the fact that they almost got their tongues cut off, they nodded.
"But if, just if, we accidentally slip up. What would happen?" Jace questioned.
"Oh, then you're dead" the female elf replied.
"Not literally, right?" Jace asked nervously.
"Trust me, I know the difference"
